That’s the staff of Seattle Wellness Programs, which we’re welcoming today as WSB’s newest sponsor. As with all new sponsors, we offered them the chance to introduce themselves to you, and here’s what they want you to know: “Dr. Elissa Mullen, ND, practices general adult medicine and specializes in chronic disease. Naturopathic Medicine is a branch of healing that combines centuries-old natural therapies with the current understanding of health and human systems. It encompasses all aspects of family health from prenatal to geriatric care, and emphasizes prevention and self-care. Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) embrace six major philosophies; the three that best summarize the foundation of the profession are Vis Medicatrix Naturae (healing power of nature), Primum Nocere (first do no harm) and Tolle Causum (remove the cause of disease). This refers to their belief of using the healing power of nature and the least invasive methods to treat the cause rather than just symptoms of disease. Naturopathic Medicine focuses on supporting the body’s innate ability to heal itself with supplementation of herbs, diet and nutrition, hydrotherapy, homeopathy and lifestyle management.” The rest of the team also wants to let you know about their specialties (including programs for businesses!) – read on:

L. Jane Barnes, ND, administrator for Seattle Wellness Corporate Program, has many opportunities for businesses to encourage their employees in healthy lifestyles.

Seattle Wellness Programs also has Acupuncture and Massage offered by Independent Therapists: Carolyn Welch, Ms, Lac, RN is a licensed Acupuncturist and Registered Nurse specializing in acute care. Chinese Medicine is a complete system of health care that has been in existence for over 3,000 years. It views the body as a dynamic, interrelated whole possessing a vital energy called Qi. This energy flows freely through channels in the body; however if there is a blockage in the flow of Qi, pain and/or disease results. Qi is dependent on blood and blood is dependent on Qi, so affecting the circulation of both of these “substances” facilitates healing. Chinese medicine is also based on the balance and harmony of all parts. Imbalances are perceptible through patient’s signs and symptoms, history, and physical cues such as the appearance of the tongue and quality of the pulse. Modalities used to preserve and restore balance are acupuncture, diet modifications, and various movement exercises that encourage free flow of Qi such as Tai Chi or Qi Gong, and Chinese herbal formulas. Please call 206-841-1275.

“Leah Bowman, LMP, has Safe Haven Massage. She became interested in Massage when in her early 20’s. She worked as an Office Manager, Controller and other Office Administrative positions for 18 years before finally following her heart and going to school to become a Massage Therapist. She believes it was the best decision she ever made.
She loves being a Massage Therapist and truly enjoys her job. She says, ‘I am honored each time a client comes to see me and allows me to assist them on their path to wellness. I am fascinated by the human body and all its complexities. I am in awe of its ability to heal itself, the connection between the physical body and the mind, and the amazing energy that flows within us. I believe in the many benefits of receiving regular bodywork and wish that it was something everyone could experience. I know for myself, having experienced an abusive childhood, making that first massage appointment was very scary. I did not know what to expect. Today, I attempt to help others feel comfortable receiving massage. Many of my clients have told me that they feel ‘very safe’ with me. I cannot think of a nicer compliment.'”
