A fellow Boston Terrier owner posted the following report on the Boston Meetup website:

Aldwyn is fine but was attacked for a second time by the same dog at Westcrest tonight. He now has a pierced left ear. After asking around, this dog has attacked other small dogs, so it has a history of aggression. Neither attack was provoked, Aldwyn happened to be walking past the other dog today. The owner did nothing during the attack and I pulled the other dog off of Aldwyn.

The dog’s name is Rikka and is black, about 40-60lbs. Not of a breed I recognize. An incident has been started with Animal Control.

Just wanted you all to know to be on the lookout for your little ones.

    Hey gogo –

FYI, Westcrest Dog Park has a Yahoo group started by Steve McElheny, the Westcrest OLA Steward. If you have not done so, you might want to check it out.

Overheard owner to say her dog hates Bostons. She should muzzle Rikka.

Are you serious? She should keep her damn dog out of the dog park. What a jerk.

You can try filing a complaint with Seattle Animal Control. If the dog is licensed they might be able to find out who it is from the name/description?

Scott (owner of attacked dog) is filing a report with AC. I just don’t understand why someone brings an aggressive dog to the dog park……

That’s really unfortunate. In theory, dog parks are great places for well-socialized dogs to hang out with other well-socialized dogs, but when someone brings a dog with known aggression issues, it just ruins it for everyone else.

I have a dog who doesn’t get along with dogs he doesn’t know, and guess what? He doesn’t go to dog parks! He only does playdates with dogs he knows and gets along with. Shouldn’t be a hard concept to grasp…

We stopping going there because every time we went our dog got in a fight, he’s a mellow old Lab and was never the aggresor. A pit attacked him and the owner just laughed, I heard him tell his buddy that it was “good practice”, so we stopped going.

I had just told my friend the other day that I have never had a problem or even witnessed a problem at Westcrest. ARGH, this makes me so mad.

Just heard about this thread, I’m the owner of Aldwyn. Animal Control, after speaking with me, a witness and Rikka’s owner has decided not to issue a citation. The owner of Rikka has been given a verbal warning and “a strong suggestion that she not take the dog to off leash areas.”

I heard of other small dog a owners tell of aggression towards their dogs too, but not sure how far it went. As I told the Officer Aldwyn has been going to different dog parks for over 1.5 years 3+ times a week and only ever been attacked by this one dog twice now to the level of cuts and bites.

I call foul when there is blood involved.

Given the owner’s knowledge of the problem and lack of interest in addressing it I suggest you keep a close eye out. Both attacks had me pulling Rikka off my dog.

Please, if another dog is attacked:

    -Get

    –Owner’s name

    –Phone number

    –Name of the dog

    -Notify Animal Control (206) 386-PETS(7387)

Not being a dog owner, I’m curious–what do you do if the attacking dog’s owner refuses to give you their personal information? It sort of blows my mind that anyone would laugh about their dog attacking another dog too. What a jerk.

Sorry, GoGo, re earlier comment about muzzling. Brain didn’t engage before fingers started typing.
