Hello to all parents of West Seattle children, students, educators, and interested citizens:

The ongoing controversies in West Seattle schools seem to be pointing to what I believe is an ugly trend…WHATEVER THE ISSUE, whether it is the fiasco at West Seattle High School over the district switching from a 4-period day to a 6-period day, the Denny-Sealth proposed merger, Lafayette teachers being told that they have to post test scores in a public area or who knows what else, ONE THING HAS BECOME CRYSTAL CLEAR TO ME. The Seattle School Board, CAO Carla Santorno, and Superintendent Maria Goodloe-Johnson have turned a deaf ear to our emails, protests, marches, empassioned pleas to be heard and not only that, but LISTENED TO. They also seem to be stonewalling the teachers’ grievance at WSHS. They don’t seem to care what facts support our position, they just seem focused on their own political/career goals that serve their interests, and not those of the students and/or community. We have talked until we are blue in the face, and have received lies, pat answers with no substance, and threats against teachers who have spoken out. Several teachers have been put on “administrative leave” at WSHS, and the climate in the school has deteriorated to the point where some students and teachers have given up fighting for what they believe in. The time for talk is over…the time for ACTION is now. I’m personally not going to waste my breath anymore trying to present facts to the district or wait for an honest answer. They are not interested in either, so that only leaves one avenue open as far as I can see and that is LEGAL ACTION. The Seattle School Board apparently isn’t going to reign in the “sword swinging” style of Carla Santorno and Maria Goodloe-Johnson until the court of public opinion and several expensive lawsuits get their attention. So, go for it people! Stand up for the children who need a good education and a safe environment in which to learn. Organize, make noise, walk out of class if necessary to show support for what you believe in, donate to the legal fund of your choice, but DO SOMETHING, or we will all pay the price. This IS a democracy and we deserve to be heard…we deserve a fair vote in the policy of education, and it looks like we’re going to have to FIGHT FOR IT! Let your voices be heard!

The West Seattle Parents and Concerned Citizens for Equity and Excellence in Education (WSPCCEEE) is a registered nonprofit organization. Our EIN# 26-1703215 is registered with the IRS.

Our Mission is to challenge the Seattle School District’s decision to change the schedule at West Seattle High School from a 4 period day to a 6 period day. As parents and concerned citizens we feel strongly that this decision will destroy the excellent program at West Seattle High School. It will create inequitable education for the students.

We plan to challenge the district through legal means. To accomplish our mission we will hire a lawyer. To pay the legal fees we will ask the community to contribute to our organization. All monies will be used for legal fees for the challenge and materials needed to promote and educate the parents of the students at West Seattle High School and the community.

The organization will continue until there is a decision agreed upon by the parents, students and the community of West Seattle. Any funds remaining at the completion of the legal challenge will be donated to one of the scholarship funds at West Seattle High School for the purpose of sending a deserving student to college.

Anyone who is a parent of a West Seattle Students or a community member that supports our mission is welcome to attend our meetings. We meet every other Monday. The location changes so please contact us by email:gofor4wshs@gmail.com if you are interested in attending.

The future is our children. What better way to spend your money and time but in protecting our children.
