DHG, the original link was a CBS News article on recent Occupy thug tactics.

I never link any Fox News articles because it gives people like you something else to cling to, other than the discussion at hand.

JV…”people like you”…people like who? your neighbors?

so, by your reasoning, if I associate in a group that has known thugs in it, or known murderers in it, then I am responsible for those in the group and just as guilty…is that what you’re saying? that because I associate with that group, I must also be a thug or a murderer?

(Adults don’t squash debate just because they claim to be offended.)

if the implication here is that DP is behaving in a childish manner, i don’t see evidence of that. he called you out for making a bad analogy. if you refuse to acknowledge that, well, that’s your prerogative.

by the way, the word is quash.

    Quash vs. squash

and no, my intent is not to be an ass. if i misuse a word, i’d like to know about it.

Jan, yes I have. Some fellow parents at my daughter’s school if you must know.

They are deeply confused but nice enough people. I would hope they would be wise enough to distance themselves from mobs of people who share their name, and use human fecal matter as their weapon of choice to make a profound point.

Do I believe little old ladies in West Seattle in front of Chase bank are skin heads or Crips? NO.

    —JV

Thank you for clarifying that, JV. Now we can move on with the debate.

Does the Occupy movement have a terrible reputation? YES

Somewhat true, sadly. There are definitely some bad eggs in the Occupy movement. Some real bad ones.

However, the main point I think we ought to be discussing here is not whether bad eggs exist, but rather, how many bad eggs there are, relatively speaking, and what influence they have on the Occupy movement as a whole.

Secondarily: Does the movement leadership (such as it is) actively discourage the bad eggs, or does it encourage them?

All valid questions, and all questions that we should be discussing.

In the most delicate terms possible.

JV, by your reasoning, I should far distance myself from anyone in the military, considering the things that were done at Abu Ghraib, or the latest happening in Afghansitan, or the myriad of other things that were done by out of control members of the military during the Iraqi crisis or in Afghanistan…is that what you’re saying? And, heaven forbid that I should even say I was a member of the military, or I may be likened to those who perpetrated those acts? I’m just trying to clarify here…

“No” is preferable to full steam ahead… particularly if you are headed over a cliff. Funny dhg.. actually I find FOX to be as unbiased as MSNBC. All six viewers of MSNBC don’t know, or want to know the difference. Occupy is doing fine.. until the they cross the line and destroy public property, or interfere with other citizens rights. Let them occupy away. Just observe the rules. I sure as hell distanced myself the Abu Ghraib Nationl; Guard members. Sadism and sadists… yea, I’d distance myself.

    Thanks, job

JV: from the moment you compared occupiers to crips it was clear you were drinking from the Fox fountain. Only someone watching distorted, skewed fox would think that was a reasonable comparison. Some kids acting up 3000 miles away from us does not make a case for comparing occupiers to thugs.

    Thank you JanS.

It’s always constructive to hear what “progressives” really think about the American Military. In case you weren’t notified, it’s not as hip to bash our military as it was in the John Kerry days following Vietnam.

Speaking of biased media, isn’t it telling that the NYTimes made Abu Ghraib a front page story for 39 days straight? Now THAT’S fair and balanced, right DHG?

I wasn’t bashing the military. I was a member of the military. You didn’t read what I wrote correctly. Either that or you simply don’t understand what I was saying. Please don’t read something into someone that isn’t there. That’s not your job. You have no idea what I believe or don’t believe. It gets tiresome. Go back and reread what I was asking.I suppose I could make a snarky comment here about how constructive it is to hear what right wing tea party conservatives really think about, but…that would be assuming things, now, wouldn’t it?

    JV..

    Back off!

    Your assumptions are beyond disrespectful.

    Jan is a vet.

    She wasn’t bashing our military.

She was trying to make a point that you seem unwilling to recognize.

There are bad apples even in the best of organizations.

If we condemned organizations and refused to participate in their activities simply because of the actions of the few

that little league you support would be out of the question

as would the boy scouts and girl scouts and boys and girls clubs and …

any organization that works with children attracts pedophiles

and that church i sincerely hope you attend?

take a second look and you will find that somewhere within that hierarchy someone has done something they shouldn’t..

hand in the till? sexual peccadilloes? Do you really think that ministers are free from human frailty… let alone their congregation?

I would hope the biggest lesson we all learned from the Vietnam years ..

which btw encompassed a lot more than just John Kerry…

is that although we may disagree with the military actions our government undertakes ..

those who serve in our military deserve our respect and compassion.

    Even John Kerry.

    Even JanS.

Whether you agree with their politics or not

they earned our respect the old fashioned honorable way

    serving their country.

I haven’t looked at the article but is there a reason they shouldn’t be talking about Abu Ghraib?

Fox has turned the phrase Fair and Balanced into a huge joke. How is it balanced when they criticize the Dems 100% of the time and defend the actions of the Repubs 100% of the time.

Truth is, the NY Times was turned to the right 11 yrs ago and became a cheerleader for invading Iraq. It is not a biased liberal paper.

Obama is a centrist, not a liberal, not a socialist. Fox has taken to heart the axiom that if you just keep repeating the lies, people will believe it. Don’t you want to get your news from a source that values truth over personal agenda?

    dhg..

apparently repeating the lie often enough that people mistake it for the truth is working too well

we have the proof right here on the forum :(

Back off!? Huh? … within TOS? Say what ya want. The visceral left… control, control, control…. preferably by proxy, exposed. Obama is a centrist? Maybe in North Korea. Sort of like “War on Women”.. or the distortions on birth control being a healthcare issue when in fact access is universal … but the more they shout it the more converts they think they get. Sour grapes it backfired. The left is getting irrate… their message is falling flat. Everyone is passing on the Kool Aid

oh, Kootch…get a life. He was accusing me of something that wasn’t true, and totally missed the point of my question (either that, or was merely deflecting, like others do on here, when they can’t answer a question) And it’s been pointed out to him…enuff said. But..he’s on your side, so I suppose us “progressives” are in the wrong once again..Boy, it gets tiresome..no wonder people stay away from the conversation in droves :(

    kootch…

    sorry..

but i don’t care how much you wave the flag

    i can’t tolerate maligning vets

simply because they have a differing political point of view.

“John Kerry” is not a swear word to be used in conjugation with the Vietnam War

He is a decorated veteran of that war.

Regardless of how you might feel about his political views,

he deserves respect for his service.

It’s amazing how many people wag the flag and support the military in all it’s glory

while forgetting to respect the citizens who serve.

Jan, I understand what you said, (and thank you for your service), but it doesn’t give you license to make a false comparison. You know it is dishonest to compare our Military’s bad deeds to the Occupiers bad deeds.

First there is the frequency. You can read a new article nearly every day about the crimes of Occupiers.

The military has had just a few black eyes over the past decade with millions of young men and women coming in and out of the war zones.

Those responsible for the misconduct are severely punished because it is not tolerated…yet another difference.

Yes, any large organization has bad apples, and if our Trops committed crimes anywhere near the frequency of the Occupiers, you and I would be in agreement.

ok..let’s do as you do, JV..insert group XYZ instead of using “military”. I was suggesting that , if we follow your thinking that one should not call oneself a member of “occupy whatever” because a small faction does something against the grain, wouldn’t that apply to all groups that you might look into? Guilt by association. I chose the military as an example…only that…now back to the conversation, instead of making it seems that as a “progressive” I was doing something untoward, which is absolutely not the case. (head against the brick wall here).

And while we’re here, please tell me what crime the occupiers did today…and yesterday, and saturday…

How can anyone compare military vets to occupier movement with old ladies as crips and bloods is beyond me….JV your wrong you just don’t read about the crimes that go on in the military why they don’t publish them ……Jan once again like some of us in here tried and confected for some sort of crime for comments we say or don’t that don’t align with the right and yes sentence by the judge and jury ( we know who they are ) for being liberals not good enough for the tea baggers oops party lol…. lions and tigers and bears with progressives oh my!!!…… were’s that wak-a-doodle when you need one… lov that saying :0) …lmoa

kootch, JV’s comments may not be violations of TOS per se, but many have been condescending toward, and dis-respecting of, other commenters. Much the same as many of your own.

Then after finally having enough, them lefties snap back a bit, and it’s “OMG!!! Those cruel, heartless, evil libs!!

Talk about “drinking the Kool-Aid”! I think JV has been drinking the Kootch-Aid.

Yeah, I know, dis-respectful comment I just made. But, yeah, I’ve let all these negative comments and assertions directed toward some of my friends get to me, even though they’re adults and are very capable of defending themselves. Even if I didn’t know the recipients, I’d still be highly offended by the condescension and dis-respect, and it would be getting under my skin at some level.

After many years on these Forums, I finally ventured a bit more into the Political portion relatively recently.

Toward the middle of last year, at nearly 53 years of age, I finally realized I have a voice. I’ve been trying to, somewhat slowly speak out with that voice. But, I find my stress level increasing as I read many of these comments on these threads, and feel like I must respond.

It would probably be best that I didn’t read these threads at all. But, I think I’ll just try to adjust my attitude, and not let them get to me enough to where I feel I need to post an angry response.

I can imagine it would be rather cathartic to consistently comment in a way that though stays with in the boundaries of TOS, is just thisclose to violating them.

However, out of respect to others on these Forums, and Site Owners, I will refrain form stooping down to that level.

    Mike
