GinaParticipantDoes anyone know if money raised by Tracy Dart at fundraisers went TO the charities? If posing as a cancer survivor raised more money for research or the Oso disaster, and she didn’t keep the money for herself–I see it as a different kind of health issue, and not newsworthy.

HelperMonkeyParticipantFrom what I understand, the monies raised by TEAM TRACY for the Breast Cancer 3-day Walk did indeed go to the Susan G Komen foundation. All the monies raised for her personally, for her “medical bills” and living expenses? All the benefits held for her specifically at local bars? All the money given to her by the friends she bold-faced lied to? that all went into Tracy’s non-cancer-having pockets and to fund her substantial bar tab.
Honestly I am not sure what I am more shocked by – that Tracy faked her cancer and defrauded an entire community or that the West Seattle Herald actually broke a story.February 1, 2016 at 11:16 am #832196
JanSParticipantAs a cancer survivor, I can attest to the fact that doing chemo for 6 months is no fun. It’s time consuming going every week or two weeks(and you can’t drive yourself), you have a port in your chest. Your hair, every last one of them, everywhere, falls out, down to eyebrows and eyelashes. You get sick, you get anemic, you get blood transfusions, you are fatigued most of the time, and you certainly don’t drink, at least I didn’t. And I abhorred chocolate…that’s how bad it was. Did this not ever happen to this woman? Did anyone not question her?

JanSParticipantAs a cancer survivor, I can attest that having breast cancer and going through chemo for six months is no picnic. It’s time consuming, it’s uncomfortable, you get a port implanted in your chest. You lose every last hair, everywhere, down to eyebrows and eyelashes. You develop anemia, get blood transfusions, you get sick, you lose your appetite (I abhorred chocolate, it’s that bad). You get fatigued, you spend a lot of time lying down, because you simply can’t get up and function. You can’t even take yourself to chemo (at least I couldn’t). You have surgery, sometimes radiation. If you’re lucky enough to have a mastectomy, you may go through more surgeries if you opt for reconstruction. Did no one ever question her about this? Shaving your head periodically is not the same thing. You don’t even have nubs when you lose your hair, and it takes a long time to come back. How does one pretend all that? People have suggested that she maybe had cancer once, faked 2 more. But the story said that she confessed to never having cancer. Munchausen Syndrome, if that’s what she has, is sad. And, if so, she needs treatment. And then she needs to repay every damned dollar that she used personally.

Barry2012ParticipantI am so shocked and upset about this whole thing. After seeing countless fundraisers and coverage on this woman to be told it was all a lie is so disturbing. Has she made any kind of statement? Will charges be pressed? All that money raised went to fund what? so disgusting that she took advantage of this amazing community that supported her…

JoBParticipantthis is what i find most disturbing
next time someone in our community is in crisis.. we are all going to stop and ask ourselves if this is real or are they playing us.i feel for the people she took advantage of.. but i feel more for the people who will find it more difficult to get the help they need because of the lingering memories of her con job

WSBKeymasterShe has not made a statement. Nor has her family. Nor has anyone, on the record, until today. Susan G. Komen confirmed when we inquired with them that they believe all the money raised in their name by her and her team went to what it was intended to go to. (Those obviously were not the only fundraisers involved, but they were the lion’s share.) That is the first thing we have confirmed after trying all weekend to find out whether this is true or not (a question, frankly, we still haven’t found the answer to) and we will be publishing something shortly (breaking news just intruded). – TR

GinaParticipantTwo friends of mine died after breast cancer metastasized. The fine, downy hair growth after chemo, the loss of all hairs everywhere, not just the head. Scars from lumpectomies and plastic surgeries. And the emotional roller coaster.
I guess donating directly to the research agency, or to the hospital bill? Can that be done with the patient confidentiality rules?February 1, 2016 at 2:13 pm #832242
JanSParticipantsorry about my double posts above. My first post was delyaed by at least 10 minutes in posting, so I made another. And that was delayed, too, in posting. And I can’t find a way to delete one :(

Michael WaldoParticipantI know this is a serious post, but I nearly spit out my coffee when I read ” that the West Seattle Herald actually broke a story.” I think in comedy, they call it a spit take. Seriously, is not financial fraud a crime? Did she not commit fraud? Does someone have to official accuse her before authorities arrest her?
