I have some wooden doors that need to be stripped of 50+ years of paint. If you have had anything like this done in West Seattle, I’d like to hear your recommendations. I’ll also take recommendations for a good place outside of West Seattle. Thank you.

    p.s. I hope you didn’t think I meant something else. :)

I did have my hopes up for a second there.

Seriously though, just do it yourself.

This stuff is safe, no toxic fumes, turns layers of paint into jelly in a couple of hours. You can then just wipe off the old paint. I used it recently to take the varnish off a 120 yo yacht. Those cap rails had hundreds of layers on them, and this stuff just took it all off.

There is a place just outside of West Seattle that does this; I think it is called Furniture Spa. I haven’t used them myself, but have heard good things.

Second Use, the recycled building materials store near the South End transfer station, has some samples of doors that were stripped using different products and methods. There is a sample door there that the Furniture Spa people have stripped.
