miwsParticipant“For the record, I like ALLYOU PEOPLE and I like you all RIGHT NOW.”–Posted 9 hours ago
Luigilinguini,
It’s some 9 hours since you posted that.
Considering that amount of time has passed, and you have (I presume–note I didn’t say *ass*ume), slept on it, do you *still* like us?

AnonymousInactiveYeah, sorry about that Mike….I used the “right now” qualifier when it should have been “right now and forever”.

JoBParticipantHMC Rich…
even Reagan got some things right:)
the dress code is to keep dresses or more accurately skirts twirling and the ladies retaliated. i think the guys still have to wear ties…
of course, the rules only pertain to competitions.. most clubs ignore them entirely…
i know several same gender couples of both sexes who are warmly accepted into their square dancing clubs… one cross dressing fella put a new spin on the term “queen” for his reign:)
I’ve never seen square dancing done to “wipeout” but i think that might make riverdance look tame:)

NewGuyMemberWhat a great idea, especially here in the Welcoming West Seattle community…a Cross-dressing, Trans-gendered, Beer-swilling, Square Dance Guild! Where/when could we get this launched? If we get good enough, we could perform in various West Seattle parades.
March 25, 2009 at 4:55 pm #661458
flowerpetalMemberUmm, already happens. There is a same sex and some-times cross dressing dance group that has West Seattle on its appointed rounds of dance halls.

CaitParticipantflowerpetal, Please for the love of god tell me they square dance. I would give anything to watch that…
March 25, 2009 at 5:09 pm #661460
flowerpetalMemberI’ll see what I can find out. I don’t know that they do this for the entertainment of others but if you really are willing to “give anything to watch that” well, we’ll see!
I’ll let you know.

JoBParticipantflowerpetal..
blatant discrimination..
some of us just can’t help being turned on by the opposite sex… but we still just want to have fun :)))))
i can’t dance any more so i would have to watch.. but i would be happy to donate to the beer fund.
LOL.. i can’t drink beer any more either…
good thing for those who do though since i don’t drink up my donation to the fund…
I am better than a cheap date ;-)

HMC RichParticipantHow cool for Venture fans and just a few weeks away. I am not familiar with their music except that one song.
I like surf music from Dick Dale. http://www.dickdale.com/history.html
I saw him a few years ago. I could of swore we got hit by some spray from the Banzai Pipeline. Well… maybe it was just related to beer induced testosterone antics.
…what were we talking about? Oh square dancers and plates. I don’t know squat about that either but more power to them.
March 25, 2009 at 10:38 pm #661464
flowerpetalMemberThe Ventures have two Christmas albums which are too sweet for words.
Even Dick Dale has a version of Auld Lang Syne.

NewGuyMemberNow that we’ve had this fascinating discussion, I think I’m going to order a set.

Are there certain qualifications? Do they/Would they accept a transgendered, cross-dressing, same-sex square dancing couple? Do you have to dance at the Dept. of Motor Vehicle to demonstrate mastery of the skill? I see for other plates, like the Purple Heart, you must provide documentation of such award. I would be so amused to see the funny faces I get on my HUGE SUV up and down I-5 as I waste copious amounts of fuel and increase my carbon footprint.

JoBParticipantit occurs to me that I was insensitive at the least to tease about the gay community discriminating against straights… even in a humorous thread.
i know that discrimination is a serious problem and that making light of it is rude.
being a friend to many in the community doesn’t give me the right to transgress.
i had the best of intentions… i made the comment tongue in cheek.. entirely in jest…
but if i offended anyone, i apologize profusely…
it was an insensitive remark and i didn’t figure it out until it was too late to edit…
please forgive me.

villagegreenMemberHMC Rich – Growing up Minnesota, I definitely miss the drunken Polka bars. Every time I return for a visit I make it a must to stop by Nye’s Polonaise Room in Nordeast Minneapolis. I’ve had more fun at that bar than anywhere on earth. Even Esquire’s crowning it “Best Bar in America” couldn’t kill it. Seattle doesn’t have anything remotely comparable in the entire city.
.
Come to think of it, where are Seattle’s ethnic neighborhoods/bars? You would think Ballard might have hung on to some Nordic heritage, but even that seems to have been stripped away. I love this city, but sometimes I miss a sense of history.
.
Oh yeah, Square Dancing is only cool if you’re gay or lesbian. But come on straights, lets start a Polka revolution!
March 26, 2009 at 7:07 pm #661468
AnonymousInactiveIn order for there to be a polka revolution, don’t we need to assemble an army of accordion players?
Nordeast – I love it! Added to my linguini.dic file.

NewGuyMember…any word on when I can expect a hoedown? Sometime soon?
March 31, 2009 at 10:44 pm #661471
AnonymousInactiveThere’s a hoedown? Where?
March 31, 2009 at 10:57 pm #661472
AnonymousInactiveI guess, being the “right-winger” that I am, I should represent.
Standing by for details…

JoBParticipantsquare dancing isn’t political..
heck.. hoedowns are the once place that the Hatfields and the McCoy got along..
no-one wants to miss a good time.

AnonymousInactiveThe “right-wing” comment was in reference to the OP.
