WSMomParticipantColorado’s U.S. attorney said last week the three suspects — facing federal drug and weapons charges — didn’t pose a “credible threat” to Obama, calling their plans “more aspirational, perhaps, than operational.” But, according to court documents, FBI Special Agent Robert Sawyer believed there was sufficient evidence to charge the men with a criminal conspiracy to kill Obama.

JenVMemberbut if you or I said “I will kill George Bush” in a cell phone conversation, you can bet we’d be whisked off to Gitmo pretty as you please….this disgusts me. They came to Colorado with weapons and the intent to kill Barack Obama. Just because they’re a bunch of stupid meth-heads doesn’t make the threat any less credible.
(on a side note: TSA, Homeland Security et al…I didn’t mean it literally, ok? everyone else, if you don’t hear from me, send me some good books to read while I’m in Cuba…)

CPMemberHave you guys heard about “echelon words” – scary! Google it… get ready to feel the eyes of Big Brother upon you.
As for the plot – it was bound to happen, sadly. I’m sure McCain will have his fair share of people threatening to anthrax his Metamucil. I’m hoping to stay calm in the meantime.

WSMomParticipantThe next morning after Obama’s acceptance speech, I called my mom to see if she had tuned in…she said, “I just couldn’t, it made me too nervous, I’m so worried someone’s going to shoot him.” At the time I thought she was being overly sensitive. Now I just feel a bit sick to my stomach.
I intend to pray for the well being and safety of Sen. Obama and his family.

WSMomParticipantCP, my worry is not the plot itself, but the US Attorney’s judgment regarding only seeking “weapons charges” against the three men.

charlabobParticipantThe Denver US Attorney is one of those who survived the Bush US Attorney Purge, in which those who did not devote their office to helping R’s get elected, such as our very own John McKay, were fired. Link to the purge, in case you forgot.

RSMemberI wish this was the only time I’ve ever questioned the judgment of the US Attorney’s office. I lose sleep at night worrying about what the justice department gets up to…
Is it me or is that third suspect a real-life version of Cletus the Slack-jawed Yokel? Spittin’ image.
JenV, I’ll send you a box of VooDoo Donuts if you get carted off to Gitmo!

CPMemberI’m pretty scared by both to be honest. I agree.

charlabobParticipantOnly slightly off topic…but this is what you do to get promoted in the Bush Justice Department. I have no idea why this case isn’t a national outrage. Oh, wait … yes I do :-)
