I think it’s rather odd, that someone that feels that Federal/State/Local taxes are too high, seems to be suggesting that property taxes be paid by renters and property owners on the same property. That would be double taxation, and I would think would be highly illegal.

Oh, but I’m sure WFhoop would claim “Oh, I did not mean that the owners wouldn’t pay the taxes each renter would!”

To which I would reply, that it would likely be a bookkeeping nightmare, setting up, and maintaining accounts for all of the renters, especially in larger complexes with perhaps dozens of units.

Yes, I know that’s how it’s already done with condos in multi-unit buildings, but they have a per unit tax assessment. Trying to do the same with apartments, would be another bookkeeping nightmare, what with having to assess a value for each unit, then calculate the tax and recalculate each as needed.

And no, it wouldn’t be as simple as assessing the building, then dividing up equally between the units, when you are likely to have different sized units, with varying numbers of bedrooms.

And, guess what? All of this would cost extra in taxes in the long run!

it’s a huge fallacy that renters don’t pay into our tax system since they actually fund the taxes that landlords pay.

miws you missed the point of the discussion. the city is using levies to pay for basics such as infrastructure maintenance, parks and libraries. essentially they are funding social services with general fund resources that should pay for basics first. if they want to fund social services they can go to the voters via levy and ask.

instead they defund basics and then ask the voters to fund the basics via levy such as the library that they know has a higher probability of approval than say a alcohol treatment center.

my point is that this is not appropriate and if all voters saw through this farce things would be better. people writing bi-yearly tax payments to the County see the cost directly!

Back to the original topic? I can’t get too worked up about who maybe left or got banned, whether posts are being unfairly censored, or whatever. I’ve seen people write these same concerns on other websites. I’ve had posts deleted (pitbulls? LOL), no big deal. It’s the internet, try not to take it personally? When the forum stops being entertaining, go enjoy this fine weather. Someday these folks may be back writing under a new moniker.

I miss Jiggers, fun reading him these years on WSB.

I suspect the reasons for most disappearances are pretty mundane – work, family, it’s summer and lots of things to do outside – and some things, especially political, go in cycles.

Maybe I should start a new thread about those of us who weren’t mentioned as being missed and how offended we are. :-)

brew, don’t even begin to think you are immune from Jiggers wrath.

WSB was more than patient with him over the years when other posters were put off or downright offended by something he said, or even by his name, which one poster a few years back complained was racist. WSB came to his defense.

Many of us considered him to be a friend on some level, and some have done a great deal to help him out.

I began to consider him a friend beginning last year after meeting him in person—visiting him in the hospital. I felt I could relate to him, with us both having chronic health issues, and having been homeless.

Nothing is ever good enough for him, and if he feels the tiniest bit slighted by anyone, even if they have been a great help to him, he turns on them.

Hell, he’s turned on people, including myself, for no seemingly obvious reason, other than maybe something we challenged him on.

I stopped consistently posting here after some folks on here went to my personal blog, found a picture of my youngest dog (who had intestinal parasites at the time) and called the cops on me…. Totally anonymous.

What strength that must have taken, how brave. I hope I run into the person that did that because you caused WAY more pain and discomfort for my older dog because of it.

I find this place to be cliquish and holier than though when most posters just really don’t have anything better to do than be controlling and bitchy.

So, really, all I do is drop snark from time to time. Most of you are a waste of time for me except the small entertainment I get from realizing how sh!tty your lives must be.

I use the blog twitter feed for the goings on and love chatting with TR, my neighbor actually, when I get a chance.

A lot of you have sucked the life out of the forum… Thank you.
