KenParticipantAnother “edit”. this time Faux uses 8 year old video to make McBush look younger?

WSMomParticipantWe have Fox News blocked on all our tv’s. Friends don’t let friends watch Fox News.

JoBParticipantWsMom.. i wish it was that easy..

TrickParticipant“Outfoxed” is still a great resource on how they approach their network. I can’t call it journalism considering most people mix it up with “Commentary” as supposed to straight news reporting.

DannoMemberWhat a bunch of ostriches. Put your heads in the sand and yell loudly, maybe you can avoid the real world forever. This thread is nothing but moonbats preaching to their Kool-Aid guzzling no-minds here.
Ken you obviously have only your fragile agenda to deal with, how sad.
July 28, 2008 at 2:18 am #632250
KenParticipantNice to see you addressing the issues instead of simple minded ad hominem comments :)
Please tell us you version of the “real world”.
Don’t forget to tell us how we should be afraid, very afraid of furriners, brown people and the educated.

KenParticipant“The wackos get their information through the Christian right, Christian radio, mail, the internet and telephone trees,” “Simply put, we want to bring out the wackos to vote against something and make sure the rest of the public lets the whole thing slip past them.”
— Michael Scanlon ,memo, read into the public record at a hearing of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee.

AnonymousInactiveObviously I have to agree with Danno (though I would not have chosen the same wording).
What’s funny to me is that everyone on this forum has such a problem with Fox News (I’ve heard this since I first started posting here), so how about this for a solution: DON’T WATCH IT!!
I don’t know. It seems really hard, but I think you all could manage it! I have faith in you! Like WSMom, just veto it from your T.V..
And, by the way, what a great education you are giving to yourselves by not looking at every side to every situation!
Ignorance is bliss!
July 28, 2008 at 2:41 am #632253
AnonymousInactiveConfirming that a major “news” network is being fed talking points by our government should be a real enough concern to every citizen. That’s just plain frightening.
For those of you who use Faux news for information, you are exactly the people in need of some “real world” knowledge.
July 28, 2008 at 2:49 am #632254
KenParticipantA little something for the Republicans :)
W. the movie
July 28, 2008 at 3:02 am #632255
AnonymousInactiveThis comes on top of the revelations that military analyst on the news were actually speaking on behalf of the pentagon. Nothing unbiased there either.
Where is the republican outrage at our big bad government? Aren’t you the party who thinks they can’t do anything right and everything should be privatized?
Please explain how you can support and defend a policy of propaganda? It seems all your party is doing lately, is defending government.

TrickParticipant“In his ambition to expand his Star satellite television business in China, Mr Murdoch has already been accused of placing his commercial interests above freedom of speech. In 1994, he dropped the BBC from his Asian Star satellite service after it was critical of Chinese leaders and of the Tiananmen Square killings.”
“On February 14, a Florida Appeals Court ruled that there is absolutely nothing illegal in a major media organisation lying, concealing or distorting information.
The court reversed the US$425,000 jury verdict of 2000 that was in favor of journalist Jane Akre, who charged she was pressured by Fox Television management and
lawyers to air what she knew and documented to be false information.
The attorneys for Fox, owned by media baron Rupert Murdoch, argued that the First Amendment
gives broadcasters the right to lie or deliberately distort news reports on the public airwaves. “

AnonymousInactiveTo listen and take anything that McClellen states as fact is total and complete ignorance.
The guy is a whacked cook who has a bone to grind. To not see that is completely naive.
Never did I (as the sole Rep on this forum) admit to a lack of “outrage” towards our government (though “outrage” is quite strong for this conservative). I just would never buy into this allegation (which is so totally and completely a personal agenda – to not see that borders on oblivion).
What I cannot understand, from being on this forum for almost a year, is WHY so many Democrats watch Fox News and then complain about it the next morning. If you don’t agree with their view or angle, don’t watch it. I don’t watch MSNBC.
July 28, 2008 at 4:52 am #632258
KenParticipantAlso note BELO, your local cable “news” conglomerate filed an amicus brief supporting Fox.
“A newspaper…must at all times antagonize the selfish interests of that very class which furnishes the larger part of a newspaper’s income…I have only one principle and that is represented by an effort to make it harder for the rich to grow richer and easier for the poor to keep from growing poorer.”
–Edward Wylie Scripps
“Our Republic and its press will rise or fall together. An able, disinterested, public-spirited press, with trained intelligence to know the right and courage to do it, can preserve that public virtue without which popular government is a sham and a mockery. A cynical, mercenary, demagogic press will produce in time a people as base as itself.”
–Joseph Pulitzer

AnonymousInactiveKen – Josh Brolin and Oliver Stone? I can really tell that that movie would be objective.
I would have a lot more respect for Democrats if you could ever find something NOT way over on the left to prove your ridiculous points.
But, to keep patting yourselves on the back, I guess, never hurts.
July 28, 2008 at 5:22 am #632260
AnonymousInactiveWe watch faux news because we believe in listening to others viewpoints, whether we agree with them or not. Too bad you don’t share in this philosophy. I can only guess it is based on fear of reality.
You may view MSNBC or CNN as liberal, but remember that so far they’ve been quite lenient with BBQ John, and not once have they been accused of being the government’s mouthpiece. Let alone, by a government insider who’s job was to speak for the president.
This particular thread is focusing on the danger of the government controlling a news’ agenda. If true, and if you are unconcerned about that, being oblivious and naive will be the least of your problems.
July 28, 2008 at 6:28 am #632261
TrickParticipantI watch the FAUX news as much as I can stomach.
I believe in hearing and reading all viewpoints
to make my own opinion.
What’s so “LEFT” about wanting accountable, accurate and journalistic integrity in our press?
Am I missing something?
July 28, 2008 at 2:38 pm #632262
AnonymousInactiveOne time Faux News contributer and current director of The Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University, Robert Lichter, has released a study showing that the “liberal media” has been far tougher on Obama than McCain during the general election.
The researches keep track of negative and positive statements on the major networks.
The same researchers found the opposite to be true during the 2006 elections. Beck and O’Reilly fell all over each other promoting those findings as proof of liberal bias. Think they’ll bother to beat the conservative bias drum now that the results are different?

AnonymousInactiveI wouldn’t necessarily deem it “oblivious” and “naive” as JT is so quick to chalk it up to.
I simply cannot watch the more left networks because of frustration. Something I would assume a liberal would feel watching Fox. The difference being that I choose not to watch it and, therefore, not complain about it.
As far as getting all viewpoints and educating myself on all sides, I do it with my own research on the computer. I also get a little help from my intelligent liberal friends who I respect and always consider their opinions.

JoBParticipantNew Resident..
McClellan’s lips were moving, but contrary to your opinion, he was actually relating fact.
This links to the court documents on the case.
http://www.2dca.org/opinion/February%2014,%202003/2D01-529.pdf
once again, it’s a good idea to source the material.. even if you don’t like the author.. if that was the author.. before deciding it is untrue…
July 29, 2008 at 6:43 pm #632265
AnonymousInactiveThe link you have shared, JoB, illustrates that Akre failed to make her case. Judgment was reversed in favor of the news station.
I never claimed the allegations were “untrue”, but tried to point out that McClellan has a personal agenda to satisfy. I think people can easily forget that point.
July 29, 2008 at 7:03 pm #632266
AnonymousInactiveSo what if the conservatives have Fox? Dems have all the other media outlets anyway. That is not biased? It’s only bias if a Republican or conservative has an outlet? Sheesh, it’s like Dems wont be happy until we just have their party as the only one in the US. I kind of hope a Dem wins so NR and I can give you all S#!^ for the next 4 to 8 years. :) Go Obama! Seriously though, if Obama wins, I will support him. I am excited to see what the future holds for us.
July 29, 2008 at 7:09 pm #632267
AnonymousInactivewsblover – Thank you! I am amazed that there is constant bashing of Fox News on this forum! So there is ONE conservative news station. Big deal!
Also, wsblover, I have had the same feelings of hoping that Obama wins. I truly believe if that were to happen, there will be a lot of grief that we will be able to give our friendly Dems here! I certainly would never vote for him, but, like you, I would support him if he is elected (until he starts screwing up – which I’m confident will eventually happen).
