andreaParticipantwhy the heart all of a sudden? i like her, but… is it cause she’s a good actress, that she has 2 Oscars, or that she’s a local Washingtonian who made it big?

WSratsinacageMemberJust an idea I had cuz I saw some people post I heart blah de blah. I seriously do like Hilary for all of those reasons.

cjboffoliParticipantI saw Hilary Swank once when she lived in my neighborhood (near Union Square) in NYC. It seems like she was always popping in to the Banana Republic on lower 5th Avenue around 17th Street. Anyway, I was walking home from work one afternoon and she and a female friend passed right by me. She was super skinny. Wearing this blue dress and strappy sandals.

mellaw6565MemberDo you know that Hilary only made very miniscule union wages when she made “Boys Don’t Cry”? (For which she won an Oscar) I don’t remember the amount, but I remember it being very, very little. Look how far she’s come now!
August 21, 2008 at 4:26 am #634697
cjboffoliParticipantSAG minimum for principal performers on a low budget picture is around $500 per day. I suspect there are some who wouldn’t consider those union wages miniscule.

WSratsinacageMemberThanks for the story cjboffoli.

JoBParticipantcjboffoli…
well i suppose minimum is still the bottom end of the wage scale.. no matter which scale…
but yes, i know many who would be tickled to earn that.. especially if it meant they got to pursue their passion.

WSratsinacageMemberAs you may all know, she took the low wage because she wanted the part. She was making way more than that at the time. Whether she thought it would bring an Oscar, I don’t know, but it definately paid off.
August 21, 2008 at 5:45 pm #634701
mellaw6565MemberThat was my point WS – wasn’t making a comment on whether $500 was a good wage or not.
August 21, 2008 at 6:19 pm #634702
WSratsinacageMemberUnderstood, that’s why I said as you may know ..
August 21, 2008 at 6:31 pm #634703
cjboffoliParticipantActors generally don’t take parts to win awards. Even if it looks good on paper, one never knows what the film is going to look like when it is completed. Even with a studio’s “for your consideration” awards machine behind you it is never better than even odds. I expect she wanted it because it was a fantastic, challenging role.
