KayleighMemberJo, I have told you my concerns many times and you have dismissed them (disrespectfully) as being products of the media, as though I don’t read lots of sources of info, think things through, use my intelligence, and make my own decsions. You don’t have to share my concerns, but it’s insulting to imply I didn’t come about them legitimately.
Reasonable people can disagree on the best direction for the party, but it doesn’t serve the party when Hillary’s supporters defend actions they would abhor if the other side did them to her.
Race is where the political becomes personal for me…although through genetic randomness, I walk the universe with pale Norweign skin. It could have been much different for me.
March 22, 2008 at 6:30 pm #615607
KayleighMemberSorry for the abhorrent spelling…NORWEGIAN.
March 22, 2008 at 6:53 pm #615608
charlabobParticipantI hereby rescind my pledge to refrain from posting on this thread.
Kayleigh, I’m not a great political prognosticator but my original assessment of this race, when there were 12 candidates, was that Clinton, Obama, and Edwards would be the last three standing; that Clinton and Obama would destroy each other, and that Edwards would remain to pick up the pieces, put together the party, and win the election.
(Before he dropped out, he was still the only Democrat who could beat all Repugs(sic) in the general election — much as I dismiss polls, I couldn’t help liking that one.)
Sadly, I was half right. I still believe, had he been able to remain in the race, the rest would have been history.
I leave you with this tad of red meat from the Clinton campaign: their evaluation of the Richardson endorsement of Obama:
Her chief strategist, Mark Penn, played down the importance of the Richardson endorsement, suggesting that the time “when it could have been effective has long since passed.â€
“An act of betrayal,†said James Carville, an adviser to Mrs. Clinton and a friend of Mr. Clinton.
“Mr. Richardson’s endorsement came right around the anniversary of the day when Judas sold out for 30 pieces of silver, so I think the timing is appropriate, if ironic,†Mr. Carville said, referring to Holy Week.
Sad, just so very sad.
March 22, 2008 at 7:21 pm #615609
KayleighMemberUgh, Charla, I bet the Clintons do feel betrayed.
I agree with you about Edwards. Aside from thinking he really *was* the strongest, most progressive candidate, I thought he would have transcended the racism, sexism, divisiveness, etc. that we have now. But alas.
Sad for the party all around. Why is it that the Repugs hang together so much better than we do? Are we all just a bunch of PITAs? (well I know *I* am) :-)
March 22, 2008 at 7:30 pm #615610
charlabobParticipantWhy? To quote from Bill Clinton, “Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line.” That about sums it up.
March 22, 2008 at 8:46 pm #615611
KayleighMemberIndeed.

JoBParticipantkaleigh…
the obama campaign has done plenty to Hillary… and are playing as hardball politics as i have seen…
yet.. nobody notices because the cover story is that his is a clean campaign.
I will ask you this.. why do you think Richardson endorsed Obama?
And i have to remind you, Richardson is a player. he got something for his endorsement.
so what do you think he got?
March 23, 2008 at 4:30 am #615613
JanSParticipantHey, JoB…perhaps he got offered the VP? or…some other high fallutin’ post? I’m sure it could never be because he simply liked the guy better. In the end, it was his choice…not her’s , nor Obama’s. Richardson had to decide for himself with help of family…so it must have been something big…

Can GOP Voters Spoil the Dem Race?
“Other talk radio hosts have taken up the cause. In Oregon, where voters must register by party by April 29 to vote in the May 20 primary, conservative talk radio host Victoria Taft has been pushing Republicans to re-register as “dummocrats.” Election officials are seeing an increase in switchers, but voters’ motives may not be divined until the Oregon exit polls are released. Meanwhile, Limbaugh opened his program Wednesday with a victory cry: “Operation Chaos is exceeding all objectives… this is just fabulous.” Dubbing the Obama-Clinton face-off a “soap opera,” Limbaugh says he will carry his campaign through to the final primaries in early June.
“I want our party to win. I want the Democrats to lose,” Limbaugh said. “They’re in the midst of tearing themselves apart right now. It is fascinating to watch. And it’s all going to stop if Hillary loses.””
I hate Rush Limbaugh. If I were a Republican, I’d be ashamed to be associated in any way with that man. Have any of you noticed the striking physical resemblance between Rush and Rove? Both make me think of a big plate of pasta alfredo.
March 23, 2008 at 5:07 am #615615
JanSParticipantWSMom…thanks for that picture – lol. I’ve heard about this push to undermine the Dems. I think that if you’re allowed to change parties, that you have to remain at least through the next 2 elections. I don’t know what the answer is. Talk about dishonest. But then…Repugs..win at all costs…and they have no shame , it seems…

JoBParticipantJan..
you were facetious about Richardson.. but I’m not… and i would be willing to bet that is exactly what happened.
Can’t be a cabinet post… because Bill Clinton already gave him that…
And if he “believed” in Obama so much.. he would have declared earlier.
He just waited to see if this rider could stay on his horse before he took the gamble… and it is a big gamble.
As for Carville.. his words are unfortunate.. but not exactly without merit.
Probably exactly what you would say if someone you had helped and counted on decided to dump you for the newer model… and make no mistake, that is what happened.
Politics makes for strange bedfellows.

JoBParticipantWSMom…
did you miss the part in that article where Obama is also encouraging voters to change registration and vote for him?
March 23, 2008 at 12:50 pm #615620
JoBParticipantyou no longer have to wait two years to switch back when you cross party lines…
interesting reading.
March 23, 2008 at 1:21 pm #615621
KayleighMemberMaybe Richardson was in the “either candidate works for me” phase, and Obama’s speech tipped the scales for him.
Leonard Pitts, my favorite columnist ever, on Obama’s speech…

JoBParticipantKayleigh…
great article…
but i want to remind you that firestorm was initiated by republicans.. and i hope you don’t think it has gone away with one speech…
March 26, 2008 at 5:25 am #615623
charlabobParticipantWe don’t seem to be able to generate any discussion of the Clinton candidacy here.(Perhaps the popularity of the Obama thread reflects the popularity of the candidate himself. No one can stay away.)
Clinton “misspoke” about landing in Bosnia under fire. Her glib explanation: “I made a mistake…I’m human…so????” (The “so” sounded frighteningly like Cheney’s answer to a question about Americans'(sic) lack of support for the Iraq war.) She didn’t misspeak or make a mistake, she lied.
Clinton “misspoke” about her role in the peace negotiations in Northern Ireland. No. she didn’t, she lied.
Today, in an interview with the Pittsburgh Gazette, Clinton was reduced to digging up Jeremiah Wright again, to avoid talking about her “roles” in Bosnia and Northern Ireland. “If my pastor had said things like that, I would have quit the church.” Jeeezzzzuz. “See the bright shiny object — don’t look over there.”
The Clintons have never had any interest in building the Democratic party — they have been interested in building the Clintons and now they’re perfectly happy to destroy the Democratic party if they can’t control it.
I don’t even know what bashing means in this context, but I can tell you this is not it. It’s speaking what is to me a very sad truth. I wanted so much to support Clinton — I was so excited that we had two stellar candidates (12 to begin with.)
Even so, IF CLINTON IS NOMINATED I WILL WORK FOR HER AND I WILL VOTE FOR HER IN NOVEMBER.
March 26, 2008 at 5:39 am #615624
AnonymousInactivecharlabob, a reporter on the bosnia trip wrote his take on the story. Still thinks she didn’t tell the truth but also cuts her some slack.
March 26, 2008 at 5:46 am #615625
charlabobParticipantI was posting about the same article at the same time, JT — thanks for posting it:
Warning to those who think Obama supporters only see the good in their candidate – this article also includes some unpleasant truths about Obama exaggerations.
March 26, 2008 at 5:54 am #615626
c@lbobMemberAs the Bosnia article points out at its end, Clinton has a rougher row to hoe concerning “misstatements” because she already has a low trust worthiness rating relative to Obama and McCain.
Her current friends at Fox and Rush will turn on her mercilessly, should she somehow get the nomination.

A good article about Hillary’s only chance at the nomination- party insiders are now referring to it as “the Tonya Harding plan”.
Makes you proud doesn’t it?
March 26, 2008 at 2:51 pm #615630
walfredoMemberMore on the Tonya Harding plan- “pledged delegates, with very few exceptions, are free to make there own judgement”
What exactly would she rule out as not an acceptable way to “win” the nomination? It doesn’t look like the Supers will be enough, so lets start going after the pledged delegates… Quite a hero,
