wakefloodParticipantOK, so a little twist in the same vein as the quote list to keep it rolling.
This time, favorite eptiaphs. There’s been some great ones. Some serious, some humorous, some just plain strange. I’ll start with a funny one from Spike Milligan that most of you already know:
“I told you I was ill.”
And we’re off…

PibalParticipant“Here lies Lester Moore. Four slugs from a forty-four.
No Les No More.” – Tombstone, Arizona
“I’d rather be here than Texas.” – Colorado
“Here lies an atheist. All dressed up and nowhere to go.” – Maryland
“I may be gone but Rock and Roll lives on.” – John Belushi
July 15, 2014 at 4:50 pm #810945
metrognomeParticipantI am still learning – Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (except I’m pretty sure he said it in Italian.)
July 15, 2014 at 4:59 pm #810946
wakefloodParticipantExcellent, Mgnome. I wonder if he had a nickname, we’d think of him differently? Like, say, Micky? Eh Micky, nice statue there with the thing and the stuff.
July 15, 2014 at 5:01 pm #810947
wakefloodParticipantAnd Pibal, I’m not sure if that Belushi one is apocryphal? I thought I’d seen one way back that said something like, “I may be gone but Rock and Roll lives on!”, or something to that effect. Maybe not.
July 15, 2014 at 5:02 pm #810948
wakefloodParticipantOh, and while I think of it, feel free to add what you would enjoy on yours oh so many, many years from now.
July 15, 2014 at 6:44 pm #810949
seaopgalParticipantHa Ha, Pibal: “… all dressed up and no where to go.”
No tombstone for me (although I love cemeteries) as I intend to go into the ground au naturel. But here is my epitaph: “Seasons change with the scenery, weaving time in a tapestry. Won’t you stop and remember me at any convenient time?” (Simon & Garfunkel)
July 15, 2014 at 7:28 pm #810950
metrognomeParticipant“Don’t call me Micky!!!” – Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (except I’m pretty sure he said it in Italian with emphatic hand gestures.)
“Th-th-that’s all folks!” – Mel Blanc
“Curiosity didn’t kill this cat” – Studs Terkel
“I told you so, you damned fools.” – H. G. Wells
“Rosebud” – Citizen Kane
“A Benny shaved is a Benny urned.” – some guy named Benny who dropped dead after visiting the barber.
(for details: http://www.punoftheday.com/cgi-bin/punjoke.pl?number=15)
“Only the good die young.” – Billy Joel (ok, he’s not dead yet)
“You may be right,
I may be crazy,
But I just may be
The lunatic
You’re looking for”
to be engraved on my urn. ‘Disco Inferno’ will be playing during my cremation. Not sure what was playing during my creation. Ever notice that ‘m’ is the only thing that separates our beginning from our end? (yes, I edited this an hour after I posted this.)
July 15, 2014 at 8:26 pm #810951
PibalParticipantWakeflood, you’re right. I was able to still edit my post so it’s corrected now. The apocryphal version “He could have given us a few more laughs but noooooo” does crack me up though.
July 15, 2014 at 9:06 pm #810952
wakefloodParticipantHey, have you ever seen the skit Belushi did where he’s walking through a graveyard in the snow and talking about how all the other cast members died before him? The reason he outlived them? “I was a dancer!”
Talk about irony…
July 15, 2014 at 11:16 pm #810953
JanSParticipantJohn Yeast: “Here lies Johnny Yeast. Pardon me for not rising.”
July 15, 2014 at 11:18 pm #810954
JanSParticipantDee Dee Ramone: “OK…I gotta go now.”

miwsParticipantJuly 16, 2014 at 3:01 pm #810958
wakefloodParticipantMike, Jan, you guys know that only the good die young. Billy said so. Which suggests you’ll both be around a long, long time. ;-)
July 16, 2014 at 4:43 pm #810959
miwsParticipantWell, in that case:

metrognomeParticipant‘I don’t do horror pictures, nor would I take my clothes off. Seriously, I’m simply not an exhibitionist.’ Rest In Peace James Garner. Thanks for the laughs and your inimitable sense of style. Billy was wrong in this case; sometimes to good ones live a long life.

FionaEnzoParticipantNot sure if Marlene Dietrich said this herself or in a film or if my friends and I just added her accent to this line we often repeated to each other, “I go home and look at ze four walls and know … I must go out again … into the night!”
