pigeonmomParticipantIt’s been a while since I’ve been on California Ave between Alaska and Oregon. Saturday night I was going to an establishment on the east side of the street and was completely grossed out by all the pigeon poop on the sidewalk in front of most of the businesses.
My friend was pooped on. :-/
Is it up to the business owners to keep
the underside of their awnings pigeon free?
There were also cockroaches on the table at
the place we ate.
I did tell the management and they were not surprised in the least.

CMPParticipantYeah, that is a gross spot along California, not sure why pokey things aren’t placed up in the awnings to keep birds from gathering up there. I’ve noticed a lot of bird droppings all over the city…the crows seem to congregate on Lander right in front of Mr. D’s at 1st Ave South and it’s absolutely disgusting. Only a good thunderstorm could clean that mess up. I walk in the street to avoid getting pooped on.

BonnieParticipantNot sure where you ate but my friend got takeout from one of the restaurants in the junction and there was a cockroach in her food. Gross! When she called to complain she was told that all the restaurants have a cockroach problem and they didn’t seem concerned.

DFWParticipantThere’s a certain restaurant right in that section (east side of the street) that we got food from once, several years ago, and never again, when I saw a cockroach run right across the counter in front of me and trapped it under a glass candleholder. The two girls working there weren’t more than teenagers so I let them know quietly — obviously it wasn’t their fault. But did I go back again? Um, no.
Luckily there is another restaurant serving the same ethnic type of food that is much better, right across the street.

CaitParticipantI don’t want to freak anyone out but cockroaches are present at most of the east-side-of-California Ave restaurants on that block. I heard at some point that it was a longstanding problem with construction and not with the cleanliness of the restaurants themselves. And thank goodness, because a lot of my favorites are over there!

pigeonmomParticipantI totally get that they are everywhere and know they can’t be completely gotten rid of but there were an inordinate number of them visible this particular night and maybe they could have tried a little harder to get a handle on things.

JanSParticipantcockroaches in take out? ewww…gross, gross, gross…I want my money back. You don’t give up trying because “well, it’s a long standing problem, and they’re everywhere. No big deal.”

CaitParticipantDon’t quote me on that but I heard that it’s a problem only on that side of the street and has been for a long time. Explanations for why that is and copies of the cockroaches diplomas from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry are currently unavailable. lol
