SQMemberMy 90-year-old mother has deteriorated to the point where she needs to live in an assisted-living situation. I’ve seen recommendations on here for places like Merrill Gardens and The Kenney. However, since she’s Medicaid/Medicare, those aren’t options for her (we can’t afford to pay the $5,000 and up per month that would be required.)
Any ideas?

bebecatMemberMy mother was also Medicare/Medicaid. I had her live at the Miricle Adult Family Home at 5603 18th ave SW near South Seattle Community College. The owner is Helen Rumbawa 206 763-2096. At the time I used this home it was referred to me and approved by Providence Eldercare. I was very satisfied with the care given to my mom. Helen really cares about how these older people are cared for. I will always be grateful to her and her assistant also named Helen. My experience with them was 3 1/2 yrs ago.

yumpearsParticipantI just had my mother at Providence Mount St. Vincent and was very happy with the care she received. She was in the nursing home side. My grandfather also lives there on the assisted living side and he is doing well. I think they do offer some space for Medicare/Medicaid patients although I don’t have direct experience with the program because it didn’t apply in our case. The people in admissions are really helpful. When I needed to get my mom into a place they were able to move her in the day after I filled out the application. Their info is: 4831 35th Ave SW Seattle, WA 98126 206-937-3700

VanessaParticipantMount St. Vincent’s has Medicaid beds available, but there is a waiting list sometimes. It took us 2 1/2 years to get my Mom there. It’s worth the wait. The care there is the finest. If you’re looking for a smaller setting, like Adult Family Homes, there are many to choose from. Word of mouth referrals are always best but if you’d like a professional referral, I highly recommend Beth Buxton, RN, who has helped many of my clients over the years. 206-601-0188 bethbuxton@comcast.net
