    Hi,

I am a 50 year old female living in the North Admiral area of West Seattle. I have over 20 years of experience working with people of all ages in their homes. I have a deep respect for my clients and am very comfortable in this environment. My previous experience included assisting clients with dementia, Alzheimer’s and physical challenges in their homes. I am currently a bath aide for a client that is handicapped. My duties in the past included ADL’s, meal preparation, companionship, light housekeeping, medication reminders, charting and transportation. I have an excellent driving record and a car. I also have excellent references.

On a personal note, I enjoy reading, walking, children and all animals!

    Thank you for your consideration,

Amen Mark47n! Herrongrrrl too! Dogs owners are not entitled to anything special just because they chose to take on the responsibility of owning a dog as a pet. Our society has decided that it would be safest for people, other pets, wildlife, and nature areas for dog owners to keep their dogs on a leash. I don’t have a phobia of dogs, but I do get nervous when a big off-leash dog comes running up to me or my kid. You may think your dog is friendly, but all I see is an animal running up to us that might pose a threat. It makes me clutch the pepper spray in my pocket a little tighter when I see them rushing up to me. I’ve heard of cases of so-called friendly dogs getting spooked by something and attacking a kid. Keep them on a leash.

I know a guy in his 60’s that was attacked by a dog at 9 years old and he is still very afraid of dogs. I agree with Herrongrrrl that more dog owners should think about the fact that many people do not want to have contact with dogs in stores or the workplace for a variety of reasons. Just assuming that everyone loves your dog is a pretty selfish assumption to make.

Lastly, my kid just stepped in dog poo at a play field yesterday and accidentally smeared it on the car seat. That makes the third time in one week that I’ve had to clean dog crap off of some shoes! Is it really that hard to clean up after your pet?!

I was in a store in White Center last week, and someone came in with a small off-leash dog. I would not have noticed except that I heard a commotion and looked over to see a woman practically having a panic attack–she was scared of the dog. The dog’s owner just said, “It’s OK, she’s friendly!” which did nothing to allay the scared woman’s fear. The store management did nothing to intervene.

The thing is, some people are genuinely terrified by dogs, for a variety of reasons. And some people have severe allergic reactions as well–it doesn’t matter how friendly or well behaved your dog is, in either case. It should be a reasonable expectation that you could go to a grocery store or restaurant without having to worry about having a phobia or allergy attack triggered by something that should not be present in that environment.

If you get a call from someone pretending to be a deputy who wants to confirm your address, be aware that it’s a scam. The guy will go on to explain that you have missed a jury summons and a warrant has been issued for your arrest and perhaps you’d like to pay the fine now, over the phone.

I have a friend call me yesterday about this type of call. She insisted she must contact the sheriff’s dept directly to confirm the veracity of the call. But that particular office closes at 4:30pm and the call was placed at 4:35pm. Next day she did confirm that it’s another scam, along the lines of the fake IRS calls. You can take it as a given that if anyone calls you claiming to be a government official and is happy to take a credit card over the phone, it’s a scam.

This is a very interesting conversation and so acrimonious! Now to add my own bit of bile…

I’ve been a dog owner for most of my life. Before moving to Seattle and acquiring my current pair of unruly labs I lived in cities where the term “off leash area” was unheard of. I lived in houses and apartments, not always with a yard, and walked my dogs regularly on a leash. I won’t say that I never flouted the law, and do periodically so my labs can get some time in the water (though never at Alki), but I will own it. I’m am the guy who lets his dogs on the furniture, sleeps with my dogs on the bed, when my wife isn’t around and I feed my dogs bits when I’m cooking (before you staunch dog lovers freak out, it’s bits of cheese or pieces of apple or carrot). That said, my dogs are my dogs, not my equals and, as such, don’t have the same rights. They don’t have the right to free speech, they don’t enjoy 2nd amendment rights or a right to a free public education.

While, to some degree, I like having a few pubs where my pooch is welcome, I look askance at folks who suffer separation anxiety when grocery shopping, at the hardware store, etc.

Dog owners are hardly underserved. you don’t have a right to own a dog, you don’t have a right to inflict your unruly and sometimes aggressive dogs on me or mine and the idea of demanding infrastructure so your old buddy old pal can run free is preposterous. For the record, as an avid hiker and backpacker, I hate dogs on the trail and in wilderness areas, too. I’ve been attacked (he’s really very nice) by dogs on trails more often than anywhere else and feel lucky to have escaped in one piece, given some of the more precipitous trails in the area, and guess what, those dogs weren’t on leashes either.

So, the moral of the story is shut up, put your dog on their leash, for THEIR protection, and act like an adult rather than a spoiled, self-centered and frequently passive-aggressive, child, Seattle!

These days I NEVER open my door without first seeing who is on the other side. I have view panes in the door. Even when I am expecting someone I look first. If I don’t recognize them I DON’T open the door and talk to them through the door. If they ask me to open the door I say no and that I am calling the police.

I live near Delridge SW & SW Thistle. Lived in these blocks for 58 years. I no longer consider anywhere along Delridge to be safe.

Within 3 months of moving into my new home in 2011 burglars broke in and stole my large screen TV, requiring 2 people to carry, when I was out for 45 min shopping. They were obviously watching my home.

I now sleep with my pistol at my bedside. If I get any knock/ring at the door after dark I don’t even go to the door and immediately get my pistol at my side.

Some months ago there was a home invasion between Delridge and Sealth High School, just north of Thistle – a man with a SHOTGUN, during the day, went into a home with a woman and her daughter. Locked/put them in a bathroom while he robbed the home. The woman and daughter escaped through a window, called police from a neighbor’s home. The invader was gone when the police arrived. It is reported here on WSB.

It’s a sad way to live. I am now looking to move out of King County.

Dogs are animals, not people, and they do not belong in the grocery store/restaurant/workplace.

It is clearly against the rules to bring a dog who is not a service animal into the store, but some dog owners feel that they are above the rules and somehow think everyone else loves their animals as much as they do.

I am so tired of dogs. I stepped in dog crap in my front yard last week. Two days later I stepped in dog crap in a community center play field. I always hear about “responsible” dog owners, but EVERY time I go to the park/beach/play fields, there is at least one (usually more) person out there with a dog, and it is almost always off-leash.

I am not a fan of dogs, but I can tolerate them; however, at some point dog owners need to realize that not everyone wants your animal around them. Some people have been attacked in the past and are intimidated by them. Some are allergic to them. Some people simply find dogs to be annoying and just don’t want them jumping on them.

I don’t want them running up to me when I’m walking with my family. I don’t want them chasing after me while I’m exercising in the community center play fields which post signs that clearly state that no dogs are allowed. And I am definitely sick of dogs in stores that have signage on the front door barring non-service animals from the store.

The more I read this the more reasons I prefer my dogs company over humans. So what if someone brings their dog into the store, unless they are obviously aggressive or dirty then just go about your day. Dogs are probably cleaner than half of the humans coughing and having poor hygiene before they touch the fruit that your eating and door handles your touching. Way more offending things to be getting bent out of shape about!

That’s a good point Ms. Sparkles. Why is a badly behaved toddler allowed in a grocery store, but a perfectly behaved dog is not allowed?

I suppose the answer is the same as why our tax code gives a deduction for a child but not for a dog. Society has decided that children provide greater social utility than dogs and therefore we offer special benefits to children that we don’t offer to pets.

I had an interesting read the other day. I went to Trey Gowdy’s Facebook page, and read some of the comments. The people in South Carolina(!)…at least some of them…revere this man…they think he is a good man, a good legislator, and think that what he’s doing to Hillary is spot on…that she is a despicable person, and he is proving it. Go figure.

As you know there are MANY nail salons in West Seattle and you also know that many are not as clean as one would hope, But I have found one that I like……… it’s NK Nails in Westwood Village. They have lots of people on staff and a variety of services and a complimentary beverage, with service over $15. They were clean and friendly and I WILL be back.

I’m looking for a strong, skilled and compassionate live-in home caregiver for my mother, she just turned 90. She had been using a walker but increasingly we are finding the need to use a wheelchair. My mother lives on Alki Beach in West Seattle, every day is greeted with beautiful views of the water and the mountains.

The current open shifts would be two to three 24 hour shifts.

My mother suffers vertigo,a fall risk and needs to be assisted every time she gets up. She is still very conversational but her short term memory is leaving her. She is slowly declining. Her wish is to stay in her condo as long as possible as she loves the view and the natural light.

We’re also looking for some help preparing all meals, bathing, bathroom assist, medication reminder. Duties regular light housekeeping (laundry, dishes, dusting, vacuuming, keeping clutter down) and can include transportation (doctor’s appointments, errands – outings)

    $200 per 24 hour shift, beginning at 7 a.m.

Also interested in creating a list of people who can substitute occasionally.

Must be certified as a NAC/NAR, home health aide or equivalent, have current CPR / First Aid and WA State background check and clean driving record. Please have current work references.

    Excellent English required.

I love that the EPA building security guard blows maple leaves dropped by the wonderful maples in Freeway Park into the street using a gas-powered blower.

Next door at One/Two Union the management uses a vacuum and a broom to remove the leaves and does not blow them into the street.

    The irony kills me.
