The whole concept of driving in the right lane and passing in the left lane is to allow the safe and free flow of traffic. Think of these lanes as driving (right) and passing (left). That’s the easy part. Putting it into practice is another thing. Active driving must be employed. Awareness of others around us is important. That is where the rear view mirrors come into play. If we simply follow the car in front because it is going the same way, at least leave plenty of space, not only to stop, but also so any other driver can maneuver into that space should he/she want or need to. Employing a squeeze play is just mean, not to mention stupid, as it will always be the rear-enders fault in an accident. This is often referred to as assured clear distance. To tailgate is not only unsafe, but also impedes the free flow of traffic. When making lane changes, use the turn signal as soon as you start to think about wanting to make a lane change…that is the time to turn it on. Note: the turn signal is that lever on the left side of the steering column. On my car, I don’t even have to take my hand off the steering wheel to activate it. I am pretty sure they are standard on all cars now. Once we put proper distance and spacing between cars driving down the road, and once we employ the turn signal to let others around us know our intentions, we are that much closer to safe and free flowing driving. Back to the rear view mirrors. In a two lane situation where someone is “on your tail” in the left hand lane, that usually means they want to move past you. Immediately put on your turn signal. This lets your tailgater and everyone else around know your intention to get out of the passing lane and back into the driving lane. If the drivers in the right hand lane did not get the memo about spacing, at least the tailgater knows you are trying. Since you are in the passing lane, suffice it to say your next option for getting out of the way to allow the safe and free flow of traffic, is to further depress the foot pedal on the right to speed up and pass a car or two, still with your turn signal on so everyone continues to be aware of your intention to get back into the driving lane. If at this point you are that driver in the left lane who does not feel like getting over because you are going fast enough, then shame on you. Passive aggressive driving like that may get you rammed or shot in todays’ world. Personally, I like to drive at or below the speed limit in town, and as fast as traffic will allow on the highway. I am a walker, bike rider and car driver. All lives matter.

    More about Pecos Pit Bar-B-Que:
Pecos Pit Bar-B-Que Restaurants trace their roots to 1980 when Ron & Debra Wise opened Pecos Pit Bar-B-Que in Seattle, WA on 1st Avenue South. They served two essential ingredients to their customers, warm welcomes and smoked meats. Their delicious alder smoked, slow roasted beef and pork soon became legendary. Their habit-forming slow cooked sandwiches with piles of meat and an addicting sauce became wildly acclaimed. The sauce alone was a real point of distinction, separating those who stood in line by how daring they would be. “Mild” for those sanely enjoying the meat, “Medium”, which to most is adventurously hot, and “Hot” for those who don’t mind their hair on fire. Three heats, only one sauce. It became known as “The Only Sauce”. Pecos Pit humbly began in an old open-air gas station—stand in line in rain or shine or don’t bother. And line up they did. Devoted men and women in everything from hard hats to suits have come for years to get their Pecos fix. This humble beginning started a Northwest born obsession for barbeque that Seattleites have never gotten over, nor have those who visited.

    What’s Next?
So now after 36 years of having a single Pecos Pit Bar-B-Que location, Ron and Debra Wise have teamed up with Gerry Kingen to share their iconic Seattle jewel with the rest of the world, starting with West Seattle this coming spring It will open at the corner of 35th Ave SW and Fauntleroy Way SW in the former Yasuko’s Teriyaki location, across from Taco Time. The West Seattle location will feature indoor seating, and an outdoor deck as well as a handy drive through. The new Pecos locations will serve the same famous Pecos Pit BBQ found on 1st Avenue for decades, along with some new habit forming options. Offerings include our traditional pork, beef, and chicken sandwiches in a decidedly sloppy style, plus beef brisket, and hot links, with prices ranging from $7.75 to $9.50. You can add hot links; just say “spike it”, as well as bleu cheese, sharp cheddar, smoked bacon, cole slaw, pickles, extras sauce and onions. New variations include stuffed smoked potatoes (sweet or russet) for around $8, and a “Walkabouts Bowl” filled with the meat of your choice plus cheese, cold slaw and sauce. We serve healthy salads made with your choice of smoked meat, or have it veggie style, with baby kale, olives, tomatoes, cowboy caviar, cheddar cheese, and blue cheese or ranch dressing.

You can even buy bulk, smoked meats including Pecos pork, beef brisket, turkey legs, and smoked chicken ranging from $7.95 to $14.95 per pound. Word has it that the rum runners are hard at work vying for moonshine and libation offerings. Stand by for whispers on this one.

Kingen is planning on opening a number of company owned locations locally and will expand nationally to share our delicious Pecos Pit Bar-B-Que with hungry customers across the country.

I have used Busby Junk Removal three times in the past few years and they’ve always been fantastic! They charge based on how much space the items take up in the truck, not by weight or number of items and have fantastic prices. Very friendly local guys working on the crew too. :)

    Congrats!
I would 2nd a recommendation for Dr. Okorn at Swedish West Seattle.

Just one random thing, and don’t know how far along you are and what exact Premera insurance plan you have but… I got a notice that my Premera (” to continue moderating rising costs… blah blah blah…”), will discontinue coverage for portions of the Swedish, Providence and CHI Franciscan Health systems Jan 2017.

I haven’t figured out who will be included after Jan 2017. I hate making heads or tails of insurance nonsense, so maybe it is easier for you to figure out. and maybe it’s not a full Premera-wide thing.

Can anyone recommend a cheap way to dispose of unwanted furniture? I have some long ikea pieces to a wardrobe (that don’t fit our trash compactor), an old, old loveseat, and a dresser hutch (which is in good condition if anyone wants it). I don’t have a vehicle or license so am unable to transport anywhere myself.

a question I have…when did it become such a sin to go the posted speed limit…it seems there are people who think that’s wrong…I guess I just don’t get it. Should we just take the speed limit signs down? Yes, someone will come back and say it’s just a suggested speed limit…well, when you get stopped for going 10 miles over the “suggested” speed limit, tell that to the sympathetic cop.. The odds are you won’t get stopped…but it CAN happen…it did to me… #moneyIdonthave

    Smitty, welcome back !

Yes, the warmists like to crow about the warmest ( month, year, decade ) since that 1800’s date, they seem to conveniently misplace what has been going on in the Earths history over the past 100 million years.

Your on the correct side of current climate science – you must not be a graduate of Seattle public schools !

Hey Plant Food, my reading of the NOAA map indicates you are mistaken in your comment about no increase in the rate of sea level rise anywhere on the coastal USA.

And of course, we’re concerned with more than the USA in considering climate change and sea level rise, or at least many of us are.

It’s also interesting to note how the researchers factor in geological variations in assessing tidal sea level changes over time.

As the last couple posts have pointed out, it is NOT okay (also not funny or cool) to purposefully block people from passing you. On freeways, where “stay right except to pass” is in force, it is absolutely illegal. If you are not a law enforcement officer then it is not your job to enforce the speed limit. It is also a fantastic way to spur road rage, which can escalate into very dangerous situations. Frustrated drivers may doing something even more dangerous than traveling above the speed limit because you blocked them, and engaging in that behavior makes you part of the problem. Instead, please just move over and let people by you if it’s safe to do so, take a deep breath and move on with your day just as the person who you let by will do.

So it’s ok that Obama blew through every constitutional “guardrail” he encountered to fundamentally change America into a progressive utopia? What is it that we are “progressing” towards anyway? 7.5 years later, the Obama administration has double our debt and all but destroyed our ability to produce anything. Progressive policies have put this nation on the verge of imminent economic collapse and racial civil war. …And a moron at the Atlantic want’s to expound some senseless drivel about Trump not fitting in with failed establishment? WTF?

“…What’s different now is the massive Republican and conservative rejection of the idea that a candidate for president should know anything substantive about governing at all..” –– Well, because the government is systemically failing to do its job. Intricate knowledge about a failing systems is really not very useful. What is more important, is returning the country to processes that have a proven track record of working.

This was my favorite line that illustrates the extent of stupidity expounded by devout liberal pundits: ” Trump is running not to be president of all Americans, but to be the clan leader of white Americans.” —What’s that say about the millions of black, latino, and asian voters who support Trump?

“…Yet overhanging all the causes is the central question: Why did Republicans and conservatives react to those causes as they did? There were alternatives. Of all the alternatives for their post-Obama future, Republicans and conservatives selected the most self-destructive of the options before them. Why? What went wrong?”

On the contrary, Republicans across the nation threw the rigged game board on the floor and selected a candidate that can actually win.

Smitty drops by to discuss sea level rise …. oh, wait – he has nothing !

Well, as a matter of current climate science, yes, the Earth has been warming.

In part, the planet warms as a recovery event from the recent little ice age.

In part, the planet warms as a result of the two most recent El Nino episodes.

And, let us not forget those ” climate forcings ” the dreaded IPCC wrings their hands over.

Now Smitty, perhaps you can cite current science with respect to what part in all of this the ” human footprint ” may be responsible for ?

IF it is the warmest year ever, can you consider what the margin of error in your wild statement might be ? NASA / NOAA have, however these are the sort of additional details they like to bury in their fine print.

You ARE referencing data from the USHCRN, aren’t you Smitty ?

are you worried/scared/frustrated yet? Paul Ryan said that he will vote for Trump. ““I feel confident he would help us turn the ideas in this agenda into laws to help improve people’s lives. That’s why I’ll be voting for him this fall,” Ryan writes in the Op-Ed.” Yeah, right….can you tell I’m a bit cynical about all this?

    WA Tide Gauge

Its now been 28 years since the conjecture of these early sea level rise climate alarmist claims was presented to Congress. However the latest updated NOAA coastal tide gauge measurement data shows locations likely to experience only inches of sea level rise by mid century ( not one to four feet as climate alarmists speculated to Congress in 1998 ) with that increase consistent with long standing and unchanging rates of sea level rise measured at these coastal locations. This location along with all other U.S. coastal locations show no sea level rise acceleration.

Agreed Mtnfreak, although I usually stay right heading up Admiral until the view curve goes from north to west, then merge over right after the light as I’m usually going to the Safeway on the left. If I’m going to the MM or Muttley Crew I stay in the right lane. Nice and easy and I go the speed limit. Too many houses right there to have to be aware of possible cars, bikers, joggers, animals, etc. Better safe than sorry! :)
