Wondering if anyone else was surprised by the prices at Tony’s this year. We stopped by this afternoon to pick up a 7-8 foot tree. After showing us the back of the tree, they looked us over and said that the tree would be $170. After confirming the price we said no thanks, and went to the Nursery where we found a similar size, but nicer tree for $84 after tax.

Are they just making up prices on the fly and expecting people to haggle?

    So weird.

I love Guam and go there once a year on business. It’s the highlight of my year. The coastline is beautiful. Imagine Hawaii 100 years ago. The water is warm and the snorkeling is great. The people are kind, polite and respectful. It’s like stepping back in time. People say hi to you in elevators and when you pass them in the street. Young people call you “sir” and people hold doors open for you. There is a sincere kindness through out the island.

There is surprisingly good food and coffee on the island. Pikas is one of my favorite restaurants and Coffee Slut has great coffee.

The temperature is the same every day of the year… mid 70s at night and mid 80s during the day. It is humid, but not horrible.

Sorry I cannot provide much help with living details. I know that T-Mobile is not there. I think the cell carrier is Docomo? I can tell you that the island has the largest Kmart in the US and you can find anything you need there.

Dear residents of West Seattle and all other Seattlites who read this blog,
For centuries, the government has denied all native americans their right of land that they gave up for the welfare of the country. To this day, the US government has forced native americans into small corners of the country, and though today, many authorities accept that what is happening is wrong, they continue to do nothing about it. Over the next few years, I wish to change this. I request that you help put a stop to the lies that have been passed down the generations that this is right, and force the government to give more land and rights to the native american people.
We are waiting until COVID-19 cases are lower to arrange any in-person protests, but you may do anything else to help.
Here is a link to the full document. Updates will be included in the doc and on this blog.
    Sincerely,
    Felix Morin, founder of NARP

Any time i’ve been in Admiral Safeway everyone’s been wearing a mask. A couple of weeks ago i asked a longtime clerk about covid. She said several customers have said they’ve had it but(so far)only 1 of the workers there has gotten covid. That was back in late April.

I’m wondering if anyone has recommendations for grocery stores who are taking safety seriously. Just left the Safeway on 42nd after I saw no less than four people unmasked within literally a minute of being inside. No enforcement actually taking place at the door or inside as far as I could see.

I know Whole Foods is good. Anyone else? Thanks!

Walking on the Alki promenade(W of bathhouse) this afternoon saw a large group together. Got closer and saw they were getting their picture taken. Counted 15 of them-parents,kids,grandkids standing packed together-NO MASKS while the photog was getting pictures. They were there a good 10 minutes. Guess covid doesn’t infect outside…..

My cousin married a retired mailman. He said that the post office has had issues for a few years hiring carriers. Between wages/benefits and people simply not wanting this line of work it’s been a problem getting enough help. All this has been made worse by the new postmaster’s gumming up the system(add in covid). Long reason, but i too have had day’s where i’m sure there was simply nobody delivering mail-probably because no one was available. The fix? I think the only recourse for us is to call out our elected officials to do something.

Anyone else not getting mail delivery? We had no deliveries on Wed or Thurs, then two deliveries on Friday, and nothing since. I would not be surprised if there are staffing shortages due to COVID, etc.

P.S. I am signed up for the daily delivery email so I know what should have been delivered each day, but nothing comes. I have not even seen the USPS truck in the neighborhood.

Unfortunately you will probably have to take it to the dump. I tried a few years ago, drove around to several places like Goodwill and Value Village and no one would even consider taking a mattress and that was just about bed bug concerns. Now with covid I doubt you’ll get any takers.

I have 175 extra ceramic wall tiles (4-3/8 x 4-3/8) for someone that needs them. This would cover about 23 square feet of wall. They are off-white and the color on the 2 boxes says almond. There is also 7 bullnose 4×4 included. Reply to this forum and I will be notified of your interest.
