Hi (fill in first name) –

Welcome to the (fill in blank) neighborhood. I’ll definitely be sending my credit card information and a blank check to you. Right after I have helped out a deposed prince in Nigeria.

    Hi West Seattle neighbors.

I’m Desiree. I’ve lived in West Seattle three and a half years now and love it.

Unfortunately, I’ve met some difficult life challenges lately. These challenges have created a passion in me to speak up for people who may be experiencing the same thing.

Please know my story deals with mental health. I don’t feel mental health is an open or accepted subject in our society. I hope to change that. But if it’s something that makes you uncomfortable, or that you don’t feel ready to support, I would ask you to think before considering reading.

If you’re ready to support the need for education around this subject in our society, this story may resonate with you in a huge way.

While I have created a GoFundMe for my current situation, what’s more important to me than finances is being heard so that others can be heard as well.

I’m reaching out and being brave, even though I am unaware of any negative repracussions I may be subjecting myself to. But I’m ready. More people need to speak up and ask for help. I hope to be a leader in that fight.

    Thanks for reading.

    Desiree 💛

Anyone know the resources if I wanted to renovate/flip a property? A friend offered to sell me their West Seattle tiny house. I do not know the first person to contact for the repairs (and it needs a lot). Everything/soup-to-nuts: roof, windows, flooring, walls, kitchen, bathroom, everything. I’d rather not spend the time interviewing a dozen different contractors for various repairs and such.

Any reputable West Seattle licensed contractor who can work with permits? Maybe a walk-through would help assess the needs?

Our Pediatric Dental Office is in hiring a dental assistant skilled with making children and teenagers feel comfortable and calm for their dental appointments. If you are an individual with enthusiasm and positive energy, please consider joining our team! Full time position with benefits available at Westside Children’s Dentistry.

Our program is based in the SoDo neighborhood, right off the West Seattle Bridge.

Successful candidates must have a clean driving record for the past 5 years (no moving violations), and be able to pass an initial drug screen & background check. Join a dedicated team of professionals who provide needed repairs to over 500 clients/year in our region. This is a rewarding employment experience.

This a full-time position, but could be part-time for the right candidate. You do not need any specific license to perform this work.

Residential Electrician (Journeyman) $30/hour + full benefits: Ideal position for someone looking to work part-time while providing a much-needed service to low-income homeowners in our region. Will hold primary responsibility for the electrical repair requests (minor in scope) made by our customers. Residential journeyman license (or higher) required. We are looking for someone to work 20-24 hours per week.

Plumbing Specialist (Journeyman level residential plumber) $30/hour + full benefits: This person will perform minor plumbing repairs to low-income homeowners and share responsibilities with second plumber for installing new toilets and removing old ones for the Water Conservation program. So listen, this is why I say happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. I have nothing against Christmas mind you. From Thanksgiving to New years there is the Festival of light, Diwali. This is a major Hindu holiday. Of course, Thanksgiving, which is basically a secular holiday. Hanukkah comes along. This is a major Jewish holiday. The Winter Solstice is Dec 21, a major Pagan holiday. Christmas is Dec 25, a major Christian holiday. Dec 26 is the start of Kwanzaa, an African American holiday. Then there is new year’s Eve, another secular holiday. So, beginning with Diwali through New Year’s Eve, there are many holidays celebrated by many different people. This is what is called “The Holiday Season”. All these people, Hindus, Jews, secular humanists, Christians, Pagans, are all living in America. So, it is not a war on Christmas to say Happy Holidays, it is being inclusive to the diverse points of view that makes up our country. Christians need to learn to share. Christmas celebrates the birth of Christ. My birthday is Feb 16. I don’t expect you to start wishing me happy birthday at the end of January. So, Happy Holidays one and all.

Do you support educational equity? Are you available at least one hour each week to mentor and tutor a younger student in the community? Now is the time to become a volunteer tutor for YTP!

The Youth Tutoring Program needs dedicated volunteers like YOU to be mentors and tutors for students living in West Seattle’s low and mixed income housing community, High Point. This is a great way to deeply impact others and spread your gifts this holiday season!

YTP serves a diverse group of students, many who come from immigrant and refugee families. We match tutors and students 1:1 to foster the best mentoring and tutoring relationships. We focus on skill building so that our students can catch-up and get ahead in school.

We accept tutors all year long!

There is no tutoring experience necessary to be an impactful volunteer! Not only do we train our volunteers to be effective tutors, we provide our volunteers with the tools they need (such as individualized tutor plans and skill-building activities) to make a difference!

The minimum age for volunteering is 14, and High School students are encouraged to volunteer!

Our High Point tutoring center is located at 6400 Sylvan Way SW (Room 214)

am a former teacher who has been working as a nanny for the past 3 years. The children I care for are 3, 5 and 8. I am punctual, patient, creative and kind. The duties I am accustomed to performing include school pick up, making snacks and other meals as needed, play date supervision and light household chores. I am firm but flexible and fair. My driving record is clean, should your children require transport to any after school activities. I am interested in meeting you to discuss this arrangement in more detail. I can provide a resume and references at that time. My number is 206-550-1653. I look forward to hearing from you. I am not available on Mondays. PS: I love dogs!

i am with you.. investing in public transportation is investing in our future..
if nothing else it will take cars off the road so that those who drive can do so more easily.
but.. in Seattle where we must have perfection or nothing i am guessing we will get whatever will make developers the most money.. because they are invested in the outcome.

it’s no surprise that those of us who opposed a Trump Presidency got what we expected..
the question is .. did those who supported him get what they expected?

My guess is no.. this is what happens when we are so caught up in winning that we forget to ask ourselves whether what we are fighting for is what we want.

the question is.. what do we do next? if we are to have any impact at all on the polices being set in motion we need to act quickly… in the next election.. which means we need to start now.

this is not a time for political infighting… it will take every engaged voter we can muster to shift the balance of power in the House and Senate… And if you haven’t figured that out yet it’s time to take a back seat and agree to the ride… because fighting what is happening now is far more important than being right.

    righteous indignation is killing America.
