SEEN IN WEST SEATTLE: The Big Banana Car

We hadn’t heard of The Big Banana Car until Max sent us that photo from an encounter at Don Armeni Boat Ramp today. But it of course has its own website and social-media feeds. We don’t know who the guy on the left is, but the bearded guy in the car is clearly the car’s creator Steve Braithwaite. He’s been based in Michigan but according to this post from two months ago, he’s becoming a “full-time nomadic banana-car driver.”

Has the Big Banana Car been at one of the Savannah Bananas baseball games? That would be the perfect fit!

    That’s a car with appeal.

Steve was here for the event I (West Seattleite) I produce, the SEATTLE ARTCAR BLOWOUT last weekend. Steve was one of the “stars of our show, but we had at least 40 or more fantastic, crazy decorated vehicles onsite at the Fremont Fair (annually, for 27 years). It’s not just naked bicyclists….

Thanks for the update! I remember the days when some were shown off here on the peninsula too … glad you’re still going strong.

Ya, Summer Solstice parade wasn’t about naked cyclist’s pre 2000’s too.  It was a family event, now it’s unfortunately not.  Glad the car show was there.

I lived in the heart of Fremont from 90 to 98. The solstice parade had plenty of naked bikers during that time.

Saw it last Monday before the first world cup match in Seattle. It was northbound on Alaska way, along the bike path. Got a big return wave from the driver. Also, love the Art Cars

Saw it sitting on a trailer on Oregon next to the bowling alley yesterday afternoon.
