I am so upset right now that my hands are shaking and I am hoping (with a very slim chance) that the driver who didn’t want me to legally zipper merge in front of him on southbound 35th at Holly reads this.
I don’t understand why this guy thought it was so important to get ONE car ahead that it was worth shoving me into the middle lane when I was already zippering into the single lane. He refused to yield and kept pushing me over to the point where I was forced into the turn lane and had to put on the brakes to get over behind him. A long honk on my part did nothing–not even eye contact from him. I know he did it on purpose and didn’t care. I just really don’t understand why people do this. Keep in mind that I was merging legally–every other car. I didn’t shove my way in. (Also, he’s really ultimately contributing to poor traffic flow if this is the norm for him. The whole point of zipper merging is to keep traffic moving smoothly and not force people to slam on their breaks just so you can “get ahead”.)
I’m a combination of enraged and on the verge of tears. If this guy is willing to drive like this on a weekday at noon on surface street, what’s he like in substantial traffic? I can’t imagine he’s a safe and courteous driver.
Dude in the silver SUV with a UW sticker on the back who did this, if you’re reading this, I truly believe that the way a person drives can indicate a person’s true colors. I wouldn’t be surprised if you weren’t the most patient or thoughtful man. Watch out for Karma!

So… I kept coming back to this post. After almost a day, the silence is deafening. It’s not an indictment. I don’t know about you, but I am stuck somewhere between…

    a loss of words,
saying my thoughts that would get me banned from this site, and,
afraid of my words being hijacked for somebody’s soapbox rant of hate.

    Terrorism (usually uncountable, plural terrorisms)

    1. The deliberate commission of an act of violence to create public fear through the suffering of the victims in the furtherance of a political or social agenda.
    2. The use of unlawful violence against people or property to achieve political objectives.
    3. A form of psychological manipulation through warfare to the purpose of political or religious gains, by means of deliberately creating a climate of fear amongst the inhabitants of a specific geographical region. (Wiktionary)

mauisurfer, I studied the signature for a couple minutes yesterday, even zooming in, and could only come up with “Froyda” as well.

Maybe that was the power of suggestion, even though I was trying to see it as something else?

In looking at it now, it looks like a cross between “Froyda” and “Twozdai”. ;-)

the news from Charlottesville is appalling… yet expected.
How does anyone really think that much hate expressed publicly was going to turn out?

Three dead after violent clashes in Charlottesville

this is what frightens me so much about those who come onto the forum.. not just expressing an opposing viewpoint but spewing hatred as though that was the norm.

So.. do we think this could happen here? Would it take much to turn Alki or the Junction into this? What happens if people turned words into deeds?

we can shake our heads and say West Seattle isn’t welcoming to skinheads and the kkk.. but We as a city are known for the violence of our anarchists. is that any better?

i think it’s time to take stock before we find ourselves literally living in a war zone.

all y’all should seriously look at cary moon’s web site. no corporate campaign donors and pro-labor. two of my identity politics boxes have been checked.

and, yeah, seattle IS going to have a woman mayor. we’ve come a long way, baby. bertha landis – and every woman in this city – is finally vindicated. after 90 years, it’s almost funny.

    almost.

in the fall, if it looks like jenny durkan is ascendant, we need to support her; but we also need to demand that she supports a progressive agenda and be involved with district politics.

whoever our next mayor is, she should put a check on rampant city give-aways to developers. put the financial burden where it belongs: back on the top 1%.

Hi, I bought this photograph of the Luna Park building (click on link to see picture) in 2014 on an art fair, probably in Alki. I’d d like to buy another one of the same series but I can’t find the artist online. The signature on the picture I have is not really legible. It’s something like “Froyda A. Hulge”. Can anyone point me to the artist, please? Thank you!

The WSB should ask the City of Seattle to send some of these workers to the promised land…
Roads like Harbor ave, Admiral way, West end of the West Seattle bridge, Olson Pl, Roxbury all need some type of landscapes needs, I could keep going like the Energizer bunny but you get my point.

    Hello everyone,

My wife and I are looking for recommendations for babysitters for our 6 month old who could potentially also help with the occasional basic household chores (loading/unloading the dishwasher, swapping laundry from the washer to the dryer, no heavy lifting, complexity or anything like that). Do such magical beings exist? If so, please let me know! Rates, availability, training/certifications, etc would be very helpful.

We only need help one or two days a week (4-6 hours max) with maybe the occasional “date day” once or twice a month for a couple hours in the afternoon/early evening.

If you know any responsible, trustworthy people who are good with kids and are looking to make some extra $, we’re interested and would love to meet them!

Considering that you use an EBT JanS and I only know people that do I defer to your knowledge regarding what can or can’t be purchased. Let me be clear I’m not against them in principle. My point is that there is a lot of abuse and not enough oversight. I wish those running the program listened to people like you.

I think you missed my point about the child in England. It’s not about “How much medical experiments did you want that baby to go through?” or what the doctors or healthcare bureaucrats think. It’s that the parents were not allowed to decide what was best for their son. I believe for a nefarious reason. Yes we all pay taxes in some form, even the homeless. I think it’s better for society to appreciate that when we receive from the government (especially when it’s more than what we paid for in taxes) the loss of autonomy is the price paid.

BTW, I did go to the encampment and the gentleman wasn’t “home”. Without detail what I found made me more sympathetic to him. I wish I could have spoken to him. I’ll try again sometime.

Right. This is one of my top pet peeves/Rants about SDOT. SDOT right of way maintenance is indeed at par with a homeowner who once in a decade uses a weed-whacker for yardwork.
Take a good look at the shoulder of the west seattle bridge (leaving Fauntleroy and 35th) if you want to see homeless camp level of garbage in addition to overgrown weeds. I think weeds are their newest addition to crash barrier safety technology.
