Schmitz Park Dad, I’m not sure what I would be more upset about–the fact that the Club Mgr used your name in the reply or his utterly unprofessional response. I am sorry you experienced this behavior. I left when it was still AllStar and joined the YMCA, a much more reputable establishment albeit crowded at times but it’s reno is beginning this spring at the West Seattle Location. That property is toxic and it seems as though the toxins are beginning to infiltrate the honest business practices of the current administration. Godspeed fellow WS’er.

Thought it can’t hurt to throw this out to the blog community.
I’m getting ready to put my Alki area home on the market. The challenge is, I work from home for a technical vendor in Atlanta (for 15 years +). I must get my office moved before listing my home. Need to find a small rental so I can move my office and extra bed to have a place to settle while I clean here and get the house ready.
I don’t need anything fancy. I do have a small adult dog, 24lbs, so I prefer a house or duplex. He is very well behaved and crate trained so never loose in the house on those few occasions when he can’t go with me.
Looking to move anytime between mid-March and mid-April. If you have any leads on a rental, I can be reached at edgarfan44@yahoo.com. Thank you!

LBD – You definitely did the right thing. The ‘special’ rate that I was offered verbally – was never reflected in my bills. I spent significant number of hours over the last 12 months, trying to get the billing worked out. It never happened. I was even promised a credit at one point – that never came through either.

Back to Marco, McKay Coppins of BuzzFeed has a rather disconcerting assessment of Rubio’s core personality that accounts for his brain freeze and reliance on scripts. Fortunately, I think these fundamental personality elements become evident to people after some exposure, so hopefully we can expect to see Marco’s anxieties confirmed.

“But to those who have known him longest, Rubio’s flustered performance Saturday night fit perfectly with an all-too-familiar strain of his personality, one that his handlers and image-makers have labored for years to keep out of public view. Though generally seen as cool-headed and quick on his feet, Rubio is known to friends, allies, and advisers for a kind of incurable anxiousness — and an occasional propensity to panic in moments of crisis, both real and imagined.
This jittery restlessness has manifested itself throughout Rubio’s life, from high school football games in Miami to high-profile policy fights in Washington — and in some ways, it’s been the driving force in his rapid political rise.”

JTB.. young people are disillusioned? they want systemic change?
why does this sound familiar? hmmmm…

maybe because we have been there and done that. I know it is popular these days to equate the youth movement of the 60s with drugs, sex and rock and roll.. but that was the least of it.

i was in the midst of all that political angst and at one time was the stockpile point in my circle for food.. we actually expected a revolution complete with guns and the national guard to break out at any time and we were prepared.

this time Bernie talks about a peaceful political revolution… but you have to ask exactly how that is going to play out… and how any long game could be strengthened by weakening citizen protections in our rule of law.. or will law be somehow magically thrown out with the bathwater too?

The gains in social democracy of the 70s were a direct result of the political pressure exerted in the 60s. There is no reason to assume that this movement won’t be equally effective in generating change.

But we democrats/progressives/lefties aren’t going to get a FDR style shake up because our political pendulum has not swung far enough to provide our next President with a Congress that will allow for sweeping reforms…

that is unless we elect a Republican who takes their Republican Congress and runs with it to decimate our clean air and clean water standards, our publicly held lands, our educational system, women’s rights, consumer protections, gay rights, etc… and codify it all in law.. endorsed by the Supreme Court.

That’s a long game that would take decades to dig out of… and we would have to literally dig because the notion of a people rising up against the biggest military power in the world.. while possible .. is exceedingly expensive in terms of human life.

You fear what would happen if Hillary became President… yet you say you would not be ruled by fear.

In my not so humble opinion. the best outcome of this democratic primary would be that Hillary was our nominee and Bernie’s movement not only backed her but pressed her to use her considerable political skill in their favor… with Bernie and Elizabeth in the Senate to back her and the people behind her it is possible that we could achieve a lot.

None of this would happen immediately.. what started in the 60s as a political movement didn’t really bear fruit until the 70s… but the fact that it did bear fruit is proof that it could.

If you were going to pick a President to sign social justice reforms.. trust me LBJ would never have been your first choice.. yet look what happened.

Colbert is brilliant. Rumsfeld has postured as an intellectual for far too long when in fact he’s mostly glib. By referencing the “known unknowns” and “unknown unknown” themes and pointing out the obvious deceit, the “unknown knowns,” played by the neocons in the Bush administration, Colbert clearly caught Rummey unable to deflect in his characteristic manner. So much more satisfying than saying “you were really just deceiving the American people about the intelligence, weren’t you?”

Moving your mailbox to the sidewalk(ask the carrier or supervisor first!) might take care of having to deal with your unwanted footpath, but I’ve seen some very nice paths created with just a few stepping stones placed by the owner. Kudos to the folks who have put walkways of one sort or another for their carriers(like the considerate 2MuchWhine) and a special place in our hearts for the ones whose pathways keep us from having to go back down stairs and up the next set of stairs to the next mailbox! (yes, I deliver mail and really appreciate those who come to our defense when appropriate!)

I was in there almost every day (it seemed) the week before Christmas and I wanted to rave about the great experiences I had each time. Everyone was/is so friendly, helpful, and engaging and the shop looks great with lots of new products and organized neatly and attractively. They’ve done a great job sprucing up the place!
