IQ test, indeed. Nor do I sympathize with the enablers who think it’s just mean to confront maskless individuals in supermarkets, etc. If these people truly have underlying illnesses that prevent them from wearing a mask, then they are the last people who should be barefaced out in public. If their condition actually exists (highly doubtful) then they should be in quarantine for their own safety. It should be written into the (unenforced) law that if you can’t (won’t) wear a mask, then you must stay home. It’s well known that covidiots, already low on the IQ scale as noted, are using unsubstantiated medical conditions as an excuse to flaunt their ignorance. Remove the loophole. Or, give them all a maskless island to live on, along with the anti-vaxxers, and let Darwinism run its course. A tanning bed should be all the intervention they need.

    4th of July Special!

A 32 oz takeout container stuffed with red wiggler worms and spent oyster mushroom straw. Together these are a perfect compost starter kit. The worms eat your kitchen scraps and yard waste to make great soil. The spent oyster mushrooms straw is pre-inoculated with beneficial microbes and bokashi infused coffee grounds.

This package is ideal for starting a new compost bin from scratch or revitalizing your existing pile. As long as we’re all locked down and cooking at home while gardening why not take on compost at the same time? Worms + mycelium packed straw, what’s not to like?

I have a parkway strip filled with round landscape pebbles. I used them as ground cover but too many cars took a shortcut in or out of the alley next to my house and now a quarter of them are in the street.
I want to get rid of them and am offering them up for free if anyone wants any.

    Garden path? Decorative mulch?

The catch is that you have to bring your own shovel and have something to carry them in- bucket, truck bed, bag etc.

The article was published on Forbes.com. The author of the article is:
    Adam Andrzejewski Senior Contributor.

Looking at the first graphic in the article, underneath it, there is a credit to: OPENTHEBOOKS.COM

There is a short bio about the author at the end of the article. I have cut and pasted it here.

Adam Andrzejewski (say: Angie-eff-ski) is the CEO & Founder of OpenTheBooks.com – one of the largest private databases of government spending in the world. Our mission: “Every Dime, Online, In Real Time.” We’ve captured 5 billion public-sector transactions including 23 million public employee salary and pension records. I’ve spoken on big data journalism at Harvard Law School; Georgetown Law School; and the Columbia School of Journalism. My work has been featured at major national news platforms such as C-SPAN; Good Morning America and ABC World News Tonight; USA Today; The Wall Street Journal; The New York Times; National Public Radio (NPR); FOX News; and CNN. My Forbes online columns have over 7 million page views.

As he is a senior contributor to Forbes and the CEO of the website used to source the data, leads me to doubt his data, especially as he provides no cross references or parameters for how the information was/is collected. Numbers and statistics can be manipulated to prove whatever it is you are trying to prove. Numbers may not “lie,” but if an author manipulates said numbers to reflect favorably on their thesis – that is, in my opinion, questionable data.

I am pointing this out, not in an effort to be a “troll” or trying to bait someone into an argument. I point this out to show that we cannot take everything we read, see or hear at face value – especially when it comes from the internet. Follow up on the author – what are their credentials and affiliation with the publisher or information they are sharing? Follow links to websites mentioned in the articles – what are those websites and where did they get their information from? Who are they affiliated with? In a time where it is easier than ever to spread misinformation, it falls on all of us to take the responsibility to investigate the validity of any articles or information we are sharing and/or reading.

Be safe, be well and be happy!

After several attempts, and getting no response from our City Council West Seattle Representative, I’m throwing this idea out to the West Seattle general public: Now that we’re entering Phase 2 of the reopening plan for King County, I have an idea that would benefit our restaurants/businesses and patrons, as well. Using the California Ave SW area (say between SW Edmonds Street and SW Oregon Street) as an example, I recommend that that area be made into a pedestrian area only, allowing the restaurants/businesses to expand out into the sidewalks and outside lanes of the street, reserving the two middle lanes as a pedestrian walkway. This approach would allow the businesses in that area to safely space tables/merchandise apart to more easily observe the 6-foot social distancing effort, as well as serve more patrons than they would be able to under the current arrangement. Studies have shown that in areas that have gone pedestrian only, businesses have flourished. By making that area pedestrian only, it doesn’t impede anyone from getting to their businesses or living quarters, since that can all be accomplished utilizing the streets that already exist behind the businesses. I think this would really work and have a positive effect for all involved. I use the California Ave area as an example only, but this could be utilized in many areas that have a concentration of restaurants/businesses open to the public, such as Alki. There’s no reason traffic has to be in these areas – as a matter of fact, it’s probably safer in some respects not to have traffic zooming thru those crowded areas anyway. So I challenge you, Lisa Herbold, to look into this recommendation – SOON! We need to help our businesses succeed – NOW! And since it looks like our shopping and restaurant options are going to be limited due to Covid-19, compounded by the years-long bridge closure, it’s more important than ever that local businesses on our “island” be successful and that we, the public, also have the resources we need and enjoy.

I honestly don’t understand the obsession with complaining about one’s own residence, as if it’s any worse off or that it’s especially worse off than other cities. I have lived in several places across the country and maintain contact with people in those places, and they say the same exact things, “this town is terrible, unsafe, dirty and all the homeless are here”. Well, guess what? There has been a nationwide epidemic of drug addiction going on for a few years now. There has been homelessness due to a scarcity of affordable housing and income insecurity. Healthcare costs have been skyrocketing, which causes bankruptcy, medical neglect and sometimes job insecurity. This has been happening all over, Seattle isn’t special. You don’t like the trash on the ground? Pick it up. You don’t like your local leaders? vote them out. I didn’t vote for Jenny Durkan, she’s acting exactly as I knew she would. The qualities that brought me here are still valid and I know I’m better off here than where I came from.

I often hear that the whole cop issue is complex. It isn’t.

We, as a society, grant a great deal of power to the police. We grant them the power to question, to detain, to arrest, confiscate, kick down doors, and incarcerate. Further, we arm them against us, we armor them against us, we grant them the power to use violence to assert their authority and will through a variety of means. We grant all of these powers and tools to the police with remarkably little oversight, other than themselves, little training, no real vetting, as compared to other nations, no real education requirements and virtually no real accountability.

What does society really get in return? According to the FBI police solve a mere 46% of violent crimes and 18% of property crimes. Police largely don’t prevent crimes because they aren’t omniscient or omnipresent. I’ve seen police completely uninterested in a report of my wife being assaulted with a car by a teenager in front of our house. I’ve called 911 and it took 30 minutes for the police to show up. I’e been handcuffed and bodily hurled into a police car simply for yielding to a cop with his lights on. I’ve been hurled onto the icy ground, in subzero temperatures, wearing only shorts and no shoes or socks with a foot in my back in my own front yard. My personal list goes on and, according to the news reports, my stories aren’t even the tip of the iceberg.

I am not sympathetic to the plight of the cop. It’s a thankless and dangerous job but it’s also one that cop’s are not compelled to keep. Most jobs are thankless and many are dangerous that have no ‘hero’ status attached to it.

Cop’s have the power to improve their standing as well. They could choose to do things differently, to hold one another accountable and to a higher standard. But they don’t do that. The close ranks around one who has transgressed. Cops could have improved their image on their own but they didn’t which required the intervention, in Seattle, of the Federal Dept. of Justice. That still hasn’t worked, so now we, the people want to take back the power we granted. Alas, it’s harder to take back than to give.

So, no, I don’t have any sympathy or sorrow for the cop. It’s their own damn fault. Instead of being those who protect and serve they, as an institution, chose to go the other way.

Here’s another perspective, directly from an ex-police officer.

It’s very much worth reading, but to summarize, it demonstrates how the system within the force is engineered to produce and encourage bad cops.

    A quote from the essay:
“And that’s the point of what I’m telling you. Whether you were my sergeant, legally harassing an old woman, me, legally harassing our residents, my fellow trainees bullying the rest of us, or ‘the bad apples’ illegally harassing ‘sh!tbags’, we were all in it together. I knew cops that pulled women over to flirt with them. I knew cops who would pepper spray sleeping bags so that homeless people would have to throw them away. I knew cops that intentionally provoked anger in suspects so they could claim they were assaulted. I was particularly good at winding people up verbally until they lashed out so I could fight them. Nobody spoke out. Nobody stood up. Nobody betrayed the code.

None of us protected the people (you) from bad cops.

This is why ‘All cops are bastards.’ Even your uncle, even your cousin, even your mom, even your brother, even your best friend, even your spouse, even me. Because even if they wouldn’t Do The Thing themselves, they will almost never rat out another officer who Does The Thing, much less stop it from happening.”
