    JT..

i loved this comment.. “are liberals to be fluid in all things at all times to remain a liberal?”

    transplantella..

if “flexible, unbiased, tolerant, unprejudiced” equates with giving in to and agreeing with everyone who crosses their path.. then probably we aren’t so liberal.

(yes, i am a transplant.. but it didn’t take me long to figure out i belong here.. i am one of those you so carelessly condemn now :)

but there are other ways of defining those terms…

flexible?.. have you looked outside your window? the flexibility of people here is confirmed by the incredible transportation options people are using today:) so far i have seen sleds (made of everything possible) snowshoes, cross country skis… and every motorized option short of a snowmobile:) And that is just on one street.

that same flexibility fuels the innovation of Seattle’s business and arts community… and produces some of the best geo-tech engineers in the world:)

my daughter is visiting and i am geo-tech focused right now.. but i suspect the same is true of several ground breaking areas of science…

unbiased? … the lack of bias here fuels the imaginations of those who lead the pack in innovation… you can’t get innovation from biased minds… You have to be willing to concede that there is much you don’t know to look for what is possible instead of labeling the unknown impossible.

tolerant? … on any given day in any pub in town you will hear a broad range of opinions being voiced on a broad range of subjects .. and the most likely comment is.. “you might be right, but”…. present your argument well and someone is likely to buy you a beer… I’d call that pretty tolerant.

The range of diversity in lifestyles here is also proof of a pretty tolerant society… When somene here says.. “some of my best friends are ____ ” .. they probably are.. and not because they went out of their way to cultivate a token friend…

but, come to think of it, most of us would never think to make that statement at all.. we’d just be indignant that you were so insensitive as to talk about our friends that way…

unprejudiced? … I think a lot of us struggle with our own personal prejudices.. but as a whole we tend to err on the side of bending over backwards to compensate for that prejudice rather than let that prejudice control our actions.

while i am fully aware that is a form of prejudice.. i suspect it isn’t the one you were noting.

Have you noticed the way we tend to look after those who are different or disadvantaged here.. even bag ladies and tramps.. ???

I think you got us wrong… your loss ;)

Don’t confuse our intolerance of dogma for intolerance in general because there is one thing that is definately true here.. we seem to be a fairly well educated group of people who were taught to think for ourselves… and don’t much value those who can’t or won’t.

I suspect intolerance of bull is one of our most consistent traits.. maybe that’s why we choose to live here ;~>

but…. we are mostly too polite to call you on your bull unless you insist on foolishly repeating stereotypes without bothering to scratch the surface for substance…

scratch a little and you might find what you have been missing.

unless of course, you are inflexible, biased, intolerant and prejudiced yourself..

in which case no matter how deeply you look, there will be nothing you can see.

When the snow melted yesterday, we found a key near our house on the ground. It looks like a house key, cut at TrueValue, attached to a lip balm holding key chain (grey). If you are missing a house key, and this sounds like yours, let me know. I’d be happy to return it, as soon as the snow lets up.

You’re in luck, I just got through to Metro and spent 30 minutes on hold while they investigated the 54 problem.

After much time and effort the customer service person came back to say that they had no idea what the “unpublished route” was nor where to find the bus. But that the 54 must be out there somewhere.

I had to refer the rep to their own unuseful webpage where it showed the ice and snow page and the mysterious 54 and 55 re-route.

Alright so I’ve been looking for a slim leather jacket for ages. The only ones I’ve been able to find are $1400 and only available in-store in Paris. Thay are over-priced because they are a product line from the band Justice.

Here are the jackets, and they are beautiful.

    http://www.surface2airparis.com/store/?pg=style&collection_id=13&style_id=23

And by slim and fitting I mean SLIM and FITTING, for example on the left in the following picture

    http://www.exclaim.ca/images/up-justice.jpg

I find the regular leather jackets that are baggy and huge appalling and un-comfortable.

Does anyone know of someone who makes custom leather jackets and is capable of making jackets of similar complexity as the ones mentioned above?

    I need help! :P

    Thank you all in advance.:]

I just had to comment on this post. Years ago when I bought my last horse, he had a pre-existing injury. A vet recommended acupuncture. I honestly didn’t think it would help but since I respected this vet’s opinion very much I gave it a shot. It worked WONDERS on him. He overcame his injury and I competed on him for several years. If my current horse or dogs ever need it I wouldn’t hesitate at all.

Hammerhead, do you know if your friend does work on horses?

Yes I agree Scott – that’s why when I bought my Dyson it was at the top of CR’s Best Buy list!

If it’s time for a new vacuum cleaner, I always buy the upright that is most highly recommended by Consumer Reports. Comparing very expensive vacuum cleaners to their recommendations is a real eye-opener.

It would be wrong for me to copy/paste information from the Consumer Reports website that is intended to be visible to only their paying subscribers, but I think this teaser may be allowed: “New designs and features are producing increasingly high-tech vacuums, but high-priced, feature-laden machines don’t necessarily deliver better cleaning.”

we looooooove our dyson. We didn’t get the Animal because we got an awesome deal online for the regular one. Regardless, it is a friggin’ GOD SEND. The only thing I don’t like about it that much is when I have to do the stairs it’s not super light to lug around. Went to BB&B the other day and saw they make a hand held Dyson though!!! That would make doing the stairs feel a lot less like a chore. I also love the bare floor option since we have hardwoods in part of the house. Love being able to see how much crap is getting picked up too.

Sorry to come off as defensive in the above post. This is an issue dear to my heart since I work with it every day. Cait-I mostly treat animals with cancer, paralysis, arthritis, chronic pain, kidney disease, strokes, and inflammatory bowel disease. I wish I could help with behavior issues but unless it is a change with age, such as old dog anxiety, usually acupuncture will not touch the super hyper ones. We do have some great behaviorists in West Seattle.

Lenamegan – I think that’s really awesome. Acupuncture did wonders for me and it takes a real animal lover to get acupuncture, like it, and then think to themselves “I want to share this with my pet.” Seriously – I think that’s awesome. What kind of things do you treat specifically? I have an ill behaved crazy hyper lab/aussie mix. Wanna take a shot at him? I’ll have your medal of valor waiting :)

Maybe it’s just living in the West Seattle equivalent of the ghetto that has heightened my spidey sense for danger. Honestly there are well kept houses that I won’t go in if I get bad vibes.

Listen to your vibes, folks. And throw the doggie a biscuit next time you see him.

I set up this site so that people who have a special bond with their animals have somewhere to go where they do not feel alone. I work mainly with hospice and very sick animals and it is amazing some of the cruelty their animal caregivers get from friends, family and co-workers. Including comments like it’s only a dog, isn’t it cheaper to buy a new one. This is very loved member of their family. Before judging please realize that those who care so deeply about animals are amazing people with an incredible capacity for love and sharing. So they may spend their money on animal acupuncture or other care that you see as ridiculous. Somehow that seems a better use of money than the commercialism that is rampant in our society. When you realize how much love a dog, cat or other companion animal can give, how much is unconditional love worth to you?

Veterinary acupuncturists in this area have a great enough demand that many of us spend most of the year not accepting new patients. I have only meet one animal so far that would not accept my treatments. Animals know when you are trying to help. I know many of you will see this is crazy but I would not have clients if people did not love their animals and if the acupuncture did not work. Please imagine how you would feel if some of the comments above were made about people.

Please instead of judging people, ask questions. If we all approached this world with wonder and curiosity imagine what it would be:-)

Never will understand why people would go to a strip club in Washington state. A- they’re not nude, and B – you can’t drink alcohol and C- they charge you $6.00 for a soda? (Have not actually been to one in WA – only in Oregon. Had some alcoholic drinks. It was ok….but I can’t imagine going there sober and paying $6.00 for a soda.)

It will remain like this as long as Colacurcio (or what ever his name is) keeps greasing the palms of politicians. See, both he and his son are unable to get liquor licenses…so as long as the law remains in effect of no booze in the strip clubs, he can keep operating. he and his son are like the sleaze mafia.

It’s not just this one apartment building. It’s the vast majority of Seattlites.

Walking the dog has been an adventure the last few days. We typically walk about 1 – 1.5 miles every morning. Along our usual route, I counted two other homes (besides my own) that had bothered to clear their sidewalks or put down sand. And I almost ended up on my butt more than once. For the most part, walking on the parking strips was safer.

But this is just the attitude here. On Sunday, when I was clearing the sidewalks, I had two people walk by and dismiss my efforts. One lady even said “Why bother? It’s just going to melt off in a few days. You’re just wasting your time.” I’ve encountered this attitude in other years when, once again, I was one of the few people who bothered to shovel the sidewalks.

On Sunday morning, with the cold weather and powder snow, all it took was a broom. Not a shovel. Not salt. No special equipment or supplies. Just a broom. It’s not that difficult.

And I understand that there are some people who are not physically capable of clearing their own walks. But really… 2 homes out of the 50+ I walked past? Are 96% of all Seattlites physically incapable? Do they not understand insurance liability? Or the law? Or common sense?

    OK. Enough of my rant.
