Got Dog Hair??? Which vacuum

Now I love my lab:) I love her shiny coat….but only when it’s on her!! However when it’s not arrrrgh!!

So which vacuum do you use? We have a mix of carpet and hardwoods if that helps.

We use the Bissel that is made for pets. It has a turbo brush mode that works great to pick up pet hair! We have both carpets and hardwods as well.

We went with a more expensive model because we were tired of having to buy a new vacuum cleaner every few years. The cheap plastic ones wear out and it costs more to send those off for repairs. We wanted one that would last a long time and would be worth repairing if needed. We bought a Riccar at the Sewing Machine Center which is on First SW (I believe, or is it 4th?) between White Center and Burien.

i bought a dyson but took it back. i just wasn’t that impressed.

i use a hoover wind tunnel..and i use the upholstery brush with the rotating brush where hair congregates.. like on their beds…

i also use a pet hair sponge that works pretty well at removing pet hair.. especially if you dampen it.

I have shibas and they are shedding machines pretty much all year.. with a spectacular display a couple of times a year.

I really should vacuum every day:(

Take it from me I do alot of cleaning. I would recommend a riccar. (I use 2 types of vac for my cleaning service) you won’t need to do that. my vacuum shop (AAA Vacuum in Top Hat)NO LONGER carries the dyson, he said they are crappy vaccuums. the same one flowerpetal recommened.

The riccar goes to floor and carpet and comes with attachments and made in the USA.

What I have a problem with is “stinky dog smell vacuum exhaust” even if the bag is new. The doggy odor is being spewed out every time.

Do bagless vacs have less stinky exhaust?

See my avatar and pity me. Yes, there is cat fur all over the house. Wood floors and tumblefurs. Really not much of an issue with the tumblefurs – they sweep and/or vaccuum fine. The pet hair sponge from Petco is miraculous on the wool throw rugs and limited upholstery that isn’t leather. My poor clothes are the problem. Now I have to consider the fabric as well as the fit. Some fabrics seem to repel fur, others attract attract attract. If I see any lint on a garment at the store I know better than to bring it home. I have pet hair rollers at home, at work, and in my gym bag…and still it’s obvious I have cats. But aren’t they sweet?!?

Hint from Heloise that I found very useful. If you have a seam-ripper it works great for ripping cat fur from your vaccuum beater brush.

fur off of furniture and clothes.

There is one canine unit and one feline

unit residing here so it sees lots of action.

Sorry to disagree with you Hammerhead, but my Dyson is the best ever – and I’ve tried them all, including Oreck which is the biggest piece of crap I’ve ever owned.

Everyone that I’ve convinced to get a Dyson swears by them also. So guess it’s a matter of taste.

FYI – I was just at Costco and they have the Dyson Animal for $349!!! It’s $549 at Target!

Gave our Dyson away after suffering with it for too long.

Sadly it didn’t suck. We’ve got 3 large shedding dogs and the Dyson couldn’t handle it.

RIght now we have a renewed Kent, but I’m pretty sure they aren’t available anymore. I’ll look at Riccar.

Our Hoover WindTunnel is pretty good at picking up pet hair, but it is terribly LOUD. Also, it seems to be top-heavy & it often topples over & hits the floor with a big crash if we even think about stretching out the hose to reach something nearby. Lastly, the cord seems to continually get knotted up & twisted.

The 3M FurFighters sound promising. To date, the best solution we’ve found to remove pet hair from clothes is to use duct tape. It doesn’t seem to hurt the clothes & does a better job at removal than traditional pet hair rollers.

put a dryer sheet in your vacuum bag or bagless canister.. it really helps with the exhaust smell.

the drier sheet works but you might need to change the little filters if your vac has them. the riccar ranges in price, some have attachment, some don’t.

weight is an issue, windtunnels and dyson are among the heaviest.

duck tape is great and cheap and most people already have it in their houses. that is what i use

Two words….SHOP VAC

We have a dog and a cat and could rebuild each of them with the hair they leave behind.

We gave up on all vacuums and once a week my husband lugs up our medium sized SHOP VAC and goes to town. It does the job great. It does come with attachments but we don’t even other needing them on the couch and bedspread, and the floor is wood so…it empties easily – only needed once every few months. :)

That 3M Fur Fighter is a welcome addition to my war on cat fur. While the pet hair sponge still works better on my area rugs (IMO), the 3M Fur Fighter is far superior to the pet hair roller on clothing.

I hate to admit it but I have a Rainbow. You know, that one you see at the home show. However, I love it. It takes animal hair from the furniture, the carpets, the drapes, everything. Plus, I have had no flea problems since I got it, they get sucked up!

It sucks into a water reservoir so there is no smell released, no dust released, no pollen released. There is no smell unless you add it to the water – cinnamon, whatever.

It’s also a wet vac so you can mop the floors and then dry them. I have a carpet cleaning attachment too.

OK. So they are ridiculously expensive. I’ve had mine for about twenty years. In that time I have never needed any servicing at all. Hmmmm. . . Clean my own carpets and furniture, no fleas, wet and dry vac, also can dust, be a blower, can be run to clean the air of pollen or dust or smells. . . I think I got my money’s worth!!
