I just checked the dems web page… current counts for Obama and Clinton:

    Obama: 1,188 del pledged/162.5 super del pledged/ 1350.5 total/ 51%

    Clinton: 1,029 del pledged/240 super del pledged/ 1269 total/48%

The other 1% are pledged Edwards… who hasn’t supported either candidate yet.

since neither candidate is close to the 2,000+ needed and they are running very close in percentage… with states Hillary is likely to do well in still to tally…

    why should anyone fold now?

This rush to make one of the candidates fold (generally voiced by Obama supporters) smacks of the same kind of bullying that the attempt to make the democratic party tie it’s super delegates to the primary vote in their state reeks of.

As does the attempt to make the two states who primaried out of turn count… which by the way would narrow that Obama lead considerably.

This is a campaign.. this is what they do. Let’s see how it plays out instead of insisting that a strong campaign will kill Democratic chances for the presidency.

Every time i hear another republican pundit talk about what civilized debates we would have if Obama won the nomination… and how there would be such a clear choice for America.. with no baggage… it makes my skin crawl.

For the rest of America, no matter how the Obama campaign paints it… it isn’t about which democrat would be better… it’s about the war and the economy… and either democratic candidate would be a clear choice on those issues.

It’s time Democrats showed their trust in their own system and took control of their own conversation… no matter which candidate wins the nomination.

Whew! I think i just surpassed the Charla half of Charlabob in being opinionated. Sorry charla.. i am leaving a clear trail of chocolate and have no doubt you will not only find me but leave me standing in used wrappers:)

I have no chocolate, but am chuckling at the Washington primary results anyway…. haven’t seen the others yet.

not quite the same as the caucus where Obama supporters really wouldn’t let Clinton supporters get much of a word in:)

I think this is going to be an interesting convention:)

So here’s the point of view of a Vashon commuter/Fauntleroy parker… although not the offender that prompted this thread because I didn’t get a note on my windshield. ;-)

I live in West Seattle, and work on Vashon. Used to live on Vashon but decided a few years ago that West Seattle was just a way cooler place to be, but my company keeps giving me paychecks so I feel obligated to show up every day. I carpool with a coworker, doing our bit for the environment as well as saving a bit of money. I feel for those of you who live around the ferry and have to look at our cars all day long – it would bug me, too. But there aren’t a whole lot of options for commuters – the teeny lot at the end of the dock is reserved for commuter vans, and the nearest Lincoln Park parking lot has a 4 hour limit – sadly, my work day with commuting time is a good 6 hours longer than that. If there was a dedicated commuter parking lot that was in reasonable walking distance from the ferry dock, I’d be there in a heartbeat. That there isn’t is just one of those short-sighted city planning things. I’m sorry to be a nuisance – it’s not intentional and for me, at least, not without thought.

I think it was 2-3 days after our initial call that they came out for the estimate. Then it was 2-3 days after that they came out to do the work. We have a small lot, and only had the front part of the fence replaced. They started around 10 am and were done by 4:30 pm. The trimming and fence teardown took the majority of their time. When I came home they told me with a lot of enthusiasm how it required a jack hammer, so it took them longer than their initial estimate, which was completion by 3pm. I don’t know if a jack hammer is normally required or if my husband had just put in an extraordinary amount of cement for the posts when he built the fence.

Calls for various people to drop out have been made continuously during this primary campaign. I have seen them all as premature. The recent speeches by both Obama and Hillary indicate that John Edwards staying in as long as he could, did move these two centrist to start criticizing the current trade policies. In Hillary’s case she is actually criticizing some of the centerpieces of Bills presidency. (NAFTA and China MFN fast-track)

I believe this makes Edwards the winner in one respect, of the WI primary.

Well, I had my chocolate (good idea JoB and others) — and I watched an hour and a half of election coverage and, without the comment from Lowmanbeach, I’d just be ready to pack it in (and wonder what we’re going to do for the next four or five months until we vote again).

Does “the media” actually have the power to convince us that it’s over and the Hillary supporters should just turn off the lights and go home?

Remember, this same “media madness” told us, six months ago, that a Clinton-Guiliani general election race was an inevitability. Rudy? Has anyone seen Rudy???

Maybe I’ll stick around for a while — just in case.

As we are sworn to editorial impartiality on the site, we can only say, of course we’ll vote for whomever our preferred party nominates even if it’s not our preferred candidate. As to ‘why stay in’ – I think this year more than ever, neither party really has a killer candidate, and didn’t even have one in the top four or five. (I’m sure some will disagree …) If you’re the also-ran, you might be thinking, what if something scandalous is uncovered about the other person … and I’ve already dropped out … then what? As long as they have the money and the wherewithal to hang in for a while, is there really any harm done? After all … it’s only February … the election is still nine looooooooong months away.

When is it time to for a presidential candidate to quit? In this case, the two obvious possibilities are Hill and Huck, but I really just want to talk about Hill. Hill is losing in Wisconsin (I can’t wait to hear theories “old folks” won’t go out in the cold—pundits, ya’ gotta love ’em.)

What makes people stay in (or leave)? Why did John Edwards quit early (why OH why OH why????) Does it hurt the Democratic chances for the fight to continue? If you’re a Barack supporter, would you vote for Hillary? If you’re a Hillary supporter, would you vote for Barack?

This is all just too interesting and, finally, are the Dems actually going to manage (again) to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?

Inquiring minds … who are about to go home and dive into a bowl of chocolates before they read further, want to know.

It’s starting to feel like spring and the gardener in me is itching to get started. A few people have mentioned an interest in getting some horse manure for compost in the garden.

We need to go to Renton for it so if you have a truck and want to share a load let’s put it together. There is a tractor at the other end so we don’t have to hand load.

If you are interested please give me your email and I will let you know what the schedule is. I would like to try for some time in the next two weeks.

I think you cannot do much better than Dr Glenn Krieger just north of the Junction a block above the Post Office on California. Very responsive, friendly staff and a new second doctor has been added, Rebecca Bockow; a Seattle native. I would never go anywhere than this office.

I wonder if Bernie and Boys Market down off of First Ave is still good for the attention you get from the butcher. I might check it out, I have been wanting a good cut of lamb. Does anyone know if I can get lamb from Carniceria El Paisano? I have been intending to stop in there for a long time. It gets loads of raves!

Get the number off the pole and the closest street address and then use the form linked on this page.

Follow up phone numbers are also there.

Follow up calls might be the most important part since they can sometimes tell you if it is on the schedule.

I think all SPU line workers are involved in the big tree trim project at the moment.

oh JT.. it’s time for an intervention. can i take you out for ice cream? chocolate ice cream? Your soul is obviously in crisis:)

Yes, faith is hardwired… in some very inexplicable ways. The brain is amazing. I could tell you more about what the brain responds to.. but that would be another topic;-)

It is not necessarily logical to decide that the portion of the brain that responds is or was essential to survival. Watched any animals lately? not everything they do can be traced to survival:) So why should we be different?

I think science is finally catching up with the notion that things are far more complex than we once thought:) Just because we can find some way to explain things away doesn’t mean that we are right.

I think we can agree that not everything can be understood… anywhere there is room for any mystery, there is room for religion.

as for our numbers dwindling… church attendance isn’t doing so well, but have you seen the bookstore sections that deal with faith and mystery? they are selling well. Faith in one from or another is alive and well.

I find that it is generally those who are not secure in their faith who spend so much time condemning others. Those who are truly secure have love for and curiosity about others… they truly want to know what you think and why.

that doesn’t mean they won’t try to make you see that you might be missing something:) But probably only if you ask questions back….

when you start asking questions, you will know you should have turned down the chocolate and run ;-)

How about garage door openers? I have one that works and another that doesn’t any more. I can see that it has a bunch of tiny little switches inside that I assume form some code to open the door. But I don’t know how to reprogram it. Any suggestions?

Last fall the city put down two large metal plates on my street; one in front of my next-door neighbor’s driveway and the other across the street from them. The work done under said plates has long been finished and holes patched. Once the work was done, one plate was moved in front of my house and has sat there 4-5 months – just another noisemaker on an already busy arterial. Does anyone know who I call to get it removed?

    Thanks!

How in the world do you get the city to fix a broken streetlight?

I live on a dead-end street, and the streetlight at the end of my driveway has been going off and on intermittently for over a month, possibly since Christmas. I have filled out the Street Light Trouble Report form (here http://www.seattle.gov/light/streetlight/ ) numerous times, and nothing happens!

With this weekend’s nice weather I finally installed a motion-sensor floodlight in my back yard, but I would still like the street in front of my house to be safe for myself and for neighbors who jog, walk their dogs, etc. in the early morning and evening hours.

How can I get the city to actually do something about this?

house.. glad to see you are equal opportunity…

you have faith. You just don’t call it that.

You didn’t need to stretch so far as to running across I-5 in the morning to demonstrate faith. (although that was pretty dismissive of the rest of us) How about just getting up in the morning and having faith that this day will be something you can handle just as all others have been.

Just because you get up every day, doesn’t mean it is logical to assume that you always will. In fact.. one day you won’t. And just because your days have always more or less worked out for you doesn’t mean they always will.

I hiked the lava tubes on Mt St Helen’s and climbed it’s flanks in the summertime with little equipment before anyone really thought much about whether that was an active volcano. Was it logical to assume that i would always be able to? Apparantly not.

    How about faith in yourself?

We of faith have faith in ourselves.. we just believe there is something greater than us at the core of that faith.

I have never called it logical. Faith is about belief, not about science house.. and if you can’t measure science by faith.. you can’t measure faith by science.

You would be amazed how many perfectly rational people choose to believe in something greater than themselves. It isn’t logical. It isn’t supposed to be.

Faith itself is the biggest miracle.

Well, it was more a tongue in cheek comment about the fish place that draws crowds by tossing salmon in the air. Great photo op for tourii, not so much if you want to buy fish. I also wonder what happens to the missed catch of the day? Half-price perhaps?

City Fish is less showy, they know their fish, and it is easy to get to.

We used Alki Fence. Quick to come out for estimate, quick to come out to do the work, tore down the old fence (even required a jack hammer to do it), trimmed bushes in the way, hauled away all the junk, and built a nice looking fence.

Re the link to Charlatan Mark Driscoll.

I have tried several times to write a polite rebuttal.

It cannot be done. At least not by me.

Science does not seek to disprove religion. In the marketplace of ideas, religion does not get some sort of magic pass when it attempts to intrude where it does not belong. When religion tries to replace science or pretend it is science, it is examined and found to have no evidence at all..

Driscol reminds me of another authoritarian with a similar response to this question.

Everybody who has the right kind of feeling for his country is solemnly bound, each within his own denomination, to see to it that he is not constantly talking about the Will of God merely from the lips but that in actual fact he fulfils the Will of God and does not allow God’s handiwork to be debased. For it was by the Will of God that men were made of a certain bodily shape, were given their natures and their faculties. Whoever destroys His work wages war against God’s Creation and God’s Will.

Should the same renunciation not be possible if this injunction is replaced by the admonition finally to put an end to the constant and continuous original sin of racial poisoning, and to give the Almighty Creator beings such as He Himself created?

From where do we get the right to believe, that from the very beginning Man was not what he is today? Looking at Nature tells us that in the realm of plants and animals changes and developments happen. But nowhere inside a kind shows such a development as the breadth of the jump, as Man must supposedly have made, if he has developed from an ape-like state to what he is today.

We need to put up a new fence around the perimeter of our yard, and also pull out an old one. Anyone know of a reputable fencing company for this? Current is 3 ft tall cyclone and desired is 4 or 5 ft wooden I think.

    Thanks!

JayDee, why do you consider the fish markets at Pike “abusers”?

As for reccomendations, the White Center buthcher listed above is fantastic and I’ve heard of many people reccomending them.

West Seattle Fish Market (also mentioned above) has a great selection of fish. Otherwise, I would simply go down to Pike.

So, Findlay and others out there I have a question.

Religion has always puzzled me and when I converse with people grounded in their religion they typically state that it is not based on scientific studies or tangible proof, rather it is based upon “faith”.

My response to that is that faith cannot be considered logical.

If you state that you have “faith” in your spouse not cheating on you, that is not really faith. That’s the scientific method…you have known Spouse A for X amount of time and they have not cheated on you in X ammount of time. Snce Spouse A has not cheated on you in X ammount of time, you “trust” that they are not going to cheat. Therefore, Spouse A has “proven” that they will not cheat. If Spouse “A” actually cheats on you and you find out, then you have proven that Spouse “A” cannot be trusted.

If I state that I have “faith” that I will wake up and land on my two feet in the morning b/c of gravity rather than float away, this again is not “faith”. Rather, it’s the fact that I have proven 12,775 other days that I will land on my two feet so it’s safe to assume that I will again tomorrow….once again proven method of determing something.

So, I see “faith” as belief in something that you cannot actually prove exists or has existed.

If you have “faith” in religion, what other aspects of your life to you practice faith?

The closest example of “faith” to me would be standing at one end of I-5 at 3pm and running straight across without looking. You can deem this as stupidity, but it would be blind “faith” believing that you would make it to the other side unharmed. Odds are that you’d be killed or injured, but if you did make it across you would call it “divine intervention” and I would call it “dumb ass luck”.

New Slogan for Mars Hill Church “Our beliefs are out of this world”!!
