felicialhMemberOur garage door did a number on us the other day and after recruiting neighbors with more knowledge on the subject we all concluded we needed to find a repair man. Any recommendations?

swimcatMemberOh, if only I had a garage… I’d love to have this problem! :) My parents had their garage door replaced recently and they were pleased with whoever did the work. They live in Bellevue though, so i’m sure it was an eastside company. Does that matter if they’re local or not? I’m sure this company does repair work too in addition to replacement.

MrJTMemberfelicia, Try Distrubdoors, they are out of Auburn, but have done a new door for myself, a neighbor and a friend here in WSea, they are not afraid of the funky garages and doors in this area. They did a great job on all three, and came to repair one after an “accident” for a very resaonable cost.

felicialhMemberlocal or not does not matter… someone who has done a nice job somewhere else is really what we are looking for. That name would be great… thanks!

katydidMemberHow about garage door openers? I have one that works and another that doesn’t any more. I can see that it has a bunch of tiny little switches inside that I assume form some code to open the door. But I don’t know how to reprogram it. Any suggestions?

felicialhMemberMrJT-
THANK YOU so much for the recommendation – they were fantastic! Very friendly, came right away, and cheap (compared to our worst fear!). Highly recommend them…. and katydid, you could always call them and see if they do this type of work too.

JayDeeParticipantDear Katydid:
Assuming you have new batteries in the one that doesn’t work (I know, but I had to say it), open the cover of the one that does work. Each of those little white switches and the three (i think) positions together form a code. Get a piece of paper and mark down the switch positions of the controller that does work. Close it back up.
Open the one that doesn’t work. Are the switches in the same position as the one that works? If so, you need a new controller. Note the brand and type of opener and you might be able to buy a replacement controller.
If the switches are in different positions, set them the same as the controller that works. Reset the cover and try it.
Good Luck – JD

KenParticipantActually.. nearly all garage door openers are on the web. Some of the older ones are indeed set by a switch combination. It is usually hidden but it is solid state and usually uses a DIP (dual inline package) switch that may set the combination OR set the type of signal or remote it will respond to.
Google the brand name and model number to see if you can find the installation or users manual.
I hate to see people call out an expensive tech for something they could get from a manual.
However, some brands are favored by installers because the details of how they work or are set, are not published. This creates work opportunity for the installer company.

katydidMemberThanks. Jaydee and Ken. I just caught up with your posts tonight. I will try your suggestions tomorrow. Kinda thought there might be something I could do with the switches. And yes, first thing I did was change the batteries. Again, thanks for the info.
