Though I’m not Jewish, we are invited to a seder every year with our good family friends. I know the mom does a MI QFC run before the seder every year. So yes, I actually know it’s a place. :) The QFC in Westwood has a smaller Jewish section, but I have noticed they’ve stocked more lately in preparation for the season.

Hi all! I’m looking for information on volunteer groups who organize landscaping adoption of the neighborhood roundabouts, particularly in the Fairmount area. I had a rather traumatic experience with one this weekend, and I left with the impression that there was someone out there, or perhaps a mailing list of several folks, who kept up with this.

I have been one of the people who has cared for the roundabout at Brandon & 40th since moving in two years ago, and while I’d seen and thanked a couple of other folks who weeded and did other cleanup as well, and occasionally planted some spring flowers, I’d never heard of any organization. I will he happy to volunteer on it; if there’s a plan, I’d love to help. If anyone can direct me to the right person/people, I’d appreciate it.

I agree, I’ve witnessed things take a turn for the worse civility wise in the last 10 – 15 years IN West Seattle. Not to mention Seattle in general. Dense – ity

Two of my neighbors are in the habit of running loud power tools (pressure washer, leaf blower, etc.) for HOURS nonstop at a stretch. I wonder if they might be simply letting the thing run while they go inside for lunch or take care of a couple of other things?

I don’t mind too much having to hear the noise for occasional 1-2 hour periods during the day, or for a few days if needed on a rare basis for a big remodeling project or something. But your hours of continuous loud noise, for days in a row, regularly, makes it really hard to enjoy spending time outside in this lovely weather. (Yes, we’ve talked to one neighbor about this twice, but he continues the noise.)

Please folks, turn the engine off when you’re not actively using it. People for blocks around you will thank you.

The STOP N’ SHOP is lucky to be the recipient of many wonderful donations from the community, ranging from furniture, clothing, and home décor. Happily, the proceeds provide financial support that keep the many wonderful programs running at the Senior Center of West Seattle. We need a “behind the scenes” volunteer 6 hours per week to help with the intake and pricing of the merchandise. Ideal work hours are Wednesday & Friday afternoons from 1-4pm, but there is flexibility.

My co-worker, who is a very observant orthodox Jew, does most of his shopping either at the Mercer Island QFC or the University Village QFC. He was very happy to have found kosher lamb at the U-Village location!

Came out the backdoor of Husky last night and witnessed 3 guys and a grey pitbull talking between Poggie and the frame shop. A couple with a baby in a stroller and a white dog were walking up the alley. The guy who owned the grey pit wasn’t minding the leash and the pit attacked the white dog. The owner of the white dog pulled his dog away and the pit owner casually walked over and grabbed the leash of his dog. The couple turned around and started walking back down the alley. I’m not sure if the woman pushing the stroller said something but the owner of the grey dog started yelling and swearing at the couple. Told them “they need to get a real dog”. The guy actually seemed like he might go and physically do something to one or both the couple, but that is purely my opinion. 1) this type of person seems to be popping up more and more in W. Seattle and 2) this is the type of owner that gives pitbulls a bad name. He is just a piece of ….!

I saw your comments about Mark Foley and ReMax Seattle Metro. Here is my experience.

The owner and my agent at ReMax Seattle Metro are great……great at overcharging, great at promising and not delivering, great at ripping you off, lying to you and the buyer and the title company, playing games, bullying clients, treating the seller and buyer horribly, and mostly, putting THEIR PROFITS above service to YOU! I’ve never experienced such scammers and liars. Not to mention they treat women buyers like they are stupid!

When I reduced the price, I discovered my agent wrote an escalating commission scheme for price reductions into the contract that is not industry standard practice and was not explained. When I lowered the price, I discovered this scheme and objected. My agent then punished me by trying to bully me into giving him 8% with threats of providing poor service if I didn’t comply. I didn’t comply so he provided very poor service. Never showed the property, never had an open house, sat on his butt and lied to me, ignored my requests, and made the buyer wait 2.5 hours after he said he would be there to deliver the property key. He never even called me to tell me the property had closed!

Complaints and a personal visit to the owner of ReMax Seattle Metro resulted in lots of promises in writing to correct the situation, but none of those were delivered. His lies cost me $350 extra at closing time. Although the owner had me sign a new contract addendum lowering the price, he didn’t supply it to the title company. When I queried the title company they told me to go back to the agent. The owner and the agent ignored my emails and phone calls for correction.

You want a professional selling experience? Then forget ReMax Seattle Metro! It’s rotten from the top down.

The one time I had this happen very close to my home I took the time (and rubber-gloves and respirator) to sift through the pile and found mail belonging to two addresses (same street, a few houses apart) and turned it over to SPD.
Turns out the two households paid two guys to do a lot of work and clean-up, but the dudes must have been too lazy/cheap/considerate to make it all the way to the transfer station and used our alley instead.
The pile was cleaned-up within 48 hours after contacting the police.

I recently lost my 3 stone asscher cut engagement ring while picnicking with my 6mo son at the Duwamish head near Alki on Saturday (4/16). It would have been in the grassy area where people often stop to take pictures of the downtown skyline. My son threw up everywhere and in the frenzy I managed to lose it. I am hoping the universe will take pity on me and help to reunite me with my precious ring. Any help that others can provide is greatly appreciated.

Any ideas on how to find the owner? A lady from out of town who I met on a walk found them. I volunteered to try to find the owner since I live in West Seattle. She thought it was best not to post a photo. Car keys and MANY important looking business and desk keys.

This is my 20th anniversary as a West Seattlite and aside from the recent development involving sun blocking condos in the Junction and no-parking space buildings, the place has improved. Things that were here when I moved but are gone:

Trader Joes, first in Burien and now 1.5 miles from my house!

The people have generally been friendly and welcoming even to a ex-californian like me. Which I would hope for but didn’t know at the time. And aside from the complaints aired above, I’ve liked living here and services and restaurants have only gotten better in my mind. As far as Stuffy and Mercer Islandish, perhaps a little bit more–house prices have increased and so have the McMansions. Like the driver of a Black Maserati driving down the Admiral MM alleyway irked that peds would prevent him from getting home 20 seconds sooner. West Seattle is provincial but much more of a place to be than Magnolia, in my mind.

I was wondering if you were talking about the Marketime-Fred Meyer/Larry’s building on Roxbury. B&D Aquarium moved there after 35th & Roxbury, and before White Center.

But, now that you mention it, I vaguely remember a remodel of the liquor store in the ’80’s and an even vaguer memory of another little shop in the same building, but couldn’t tell you what was in there.
