Topic: Cars and phones
Here’s what I keep wondering when I see someone talking on the phone, in their hand, while driving.
Do they disagree with the law?
Do they agree with the law but don’t think it applies to them?If you drive and talk on a hand held phone, would you be willing to share why you think it’s ok in spite of all the accident statistics? I’m not being snarky, I really am curious.
Topic: RANT: Kokora’s
What a MAJOR disappointment my partner, best friend and I experienced tonight. We used the grubhub app to find something to have ordered in as we were enjoying a fire in the living room and didn’t want to go out. We were delighted to see that Kokora’s showed up on the list and decided to order from there. We ordered 3 Gyro Platters (Includes “Greek” fries, pita and salad), babaganoush and 2 orders of Baklava. We were estimated to receive our order at 1925. At approximately 1915 we were notified via text that the order was pushed back to 1949, and again at 1945 we were notified that the order was now estimated to be delivered at 2010. The food showed up at 2000, the delivery woman was apologetic for the time and explained there was confusion in the restaurant regarding online orders. So we gladly accepted the food and sat down to eat. Upon opening the styrofoam containers, we found that none of the Gyro Platters contained any salad and it was full of rock hard french fries and some gyro meat with a few pieces of pita. The babaganoush was contained in a 2oz souffle cup (think togo salad dressing container) and it wasn’t even full (that cost $3.00), but a full container of pita bread to go along with it. The Baklava was dry, covered in nutella (I realize food is open to interpretation) and had a long black hair in between the layers of phyllo dough. I made the decision to call and provide feedback and upon doing so was met with an attitude and no sort of customer resolution, I was told that “Our online menu doesn’t match our in hour menu” (which is a lie because I’ve eaten in the restaurant before) and “You can come and pick up salads tomorrow”–The problem here is that, not only was the food almost an hour late, it was incomplete and there was no plausible resolution offered in the moment. I feel that this restaurant should not participate in an mobile application if they can’t meet the demand of the app or be able to produce their food to the standard for which they are known. My partner, friend and I are angry at spending $90 on food that wasn’t good, was cold and had hair in it. We will not be patronizing their establishment again.

Topic: Thank you James!!
My bike commute to/from work includes the trails that run along Harbor Ave and West Marginal Way (WMW).
For several months “James” has been living along the WMW trail where it curves away from the road to circle around/behind a tractor-trailer parking lot.
In the beginning we would waive and say hello as I passed when he was ‘home’ or near-by. Eventually I stopped to chat, found out a some of his needs and would occasionally drop-off a few things to augment his life. In return he would give me some ‘wine’ he made from fruit he collected in the area, which was actually pretty good!!
Last Friday I bought a stack of chocolate-chip cookies from a fund-raiser so stopped and gave him a couple on my way home, in parting I said “I’ll see you Monday” to which James replied “No you won’t, I’m heading out on Monday and won’t be around by the time you pass through in the evening. (My morning ride has be going by there before 6am while he was still asleep).
Sure enough, he and 98% of his belongings were gone last night, and much to my surprise, and enjoyment, the area was well cleaned and all that I could see was one full garbage bag and the remnants of an old vacuum cleaner.
It appears James did a bang-up job in cleaning-up after himself, not leaving a big mess for others to have to take care of.
So this is a shout-out to James, wherever he may have landed, that I appreciate his integrity and commitment in taking care of ‘our space’ that he called home for a short while.
We read about and see the evidence of so many homeless and not-homeless who don’t clean-up after themselves, and this was one situation where the lazy route could have easily been taken, but instead a good man did the right thing.Thank you James!!
Hi Neighbors,
According to the WSB, the old Short Stop convenience store is being developed into an expansion of the Morgan Junction Park and won’t be in planning stages until later in 2018.
I live right next door. It’s been fine so far living next to an empty lot (really wasn’t missing much with the Short Stop next door, to be honest.)
Recently, I noticed two men have set up tents and are living in the rear of the lot. I don’t think West Seattle is impervious to the homeless epidemic in Seattle, and I certainly don’t want to be insensitive to the crisis.
However, I can’t help but feel more on edge about our safety–They were cooking either with open flame or with a grill. If their fire spreads, we have shrubs that edge up towards our apartment..and our cars are parked within sight of their camp. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure I saw one of the men shoot up. (I was kind of far away, and can’t say for certain.) Our car got broken into last year–and I may be judgmental, but their arrival makes me feel uneasy.
If the City of Seattle owns this property, is there anything I can do? I want to make sure these guys are treated humanely, but I also want to ensure we have a safe neighborhood. Does anyone have any suggestions or news about the development of the park? Am I being a jerk?
Thanks, neighbors!
