In reply to: Cutting in line??

I don’t see why turning at that sharp right is considered “cutting in line.” At that very point on that road everyone is turning on to get on the highway, it is actually two lanes. The right lane is the one that everyone turns right on to get to, and the sharp right around the island puts you into the left lane. A short time after that the right lane does merge into the left, but not where these turns are happening.

It’s certainly not intended to be a right turn lane, but there’s no sign prohibiting it. On the other hand, if Seattle drivers would just learn to merge properly, the whole line would speed up and no one would be tempted to turn there. Here’s a tip: blocking other people from merging in front of you slows everyone down. Including YOU.

No. I’m talking where The freeway(99?)starts. The far right lane exits to northbound 1st s bridge. The lane to the left of it goes straight but people are making a sharp right at the light going around a small island to get on the onramp to n bound across the 1st s bridge.

Heading to Southcenter today i saw quite a few cars making a sharp right at the traffic island at the last curve to get on the 1st s bridge northbound. Is that actually illegal? I don’t see any signage and don’t know the traffic rules for that scenario. They have been called out here for cutting in line-which they should be as they are but i’m curious as to if they’re really doing something citable.

I’m seriously shocked by your reply.

Witnessing this pointed vitriol because the answer you want is not the answer of fact is disturbing. Also, I’m not Bree, but I’ve been a client for long time (and also with using SmartPost and FedEx) & wanted to help clarify things because I had similar concerns about shipping just like you did. The labels I used had indicated it’s FedEx and could go in either the USPS drop or FedEx drop since the USPS pickup person would scan it and move it over to the FedEx drop. So, again, it’s a middleman process. Also, the claim of shipping anything taking 4-6 weeks right now doesn’t make sense unless it’s maybe an international package, or a back order from Amazon (now THERE’s someone to yell at instead!). Otherwise, that claim is many steps closer to hyperbole than fact. The latest anything has been for me and my business is two weeks AND that was due to the pandemic, lack of healthy delivery staff, lack of in-house postal staff, deaths, illness, and the like. I find those to be acceptable excuses because nothing is guaranteed right now and won’t be for some time.

Now, I’m afraid you’ll just start attacking my business now, too, and I don’t even know who you are. A lot of us don’t have the independent time and wealth to be loud and angry and post about the mail in person or online.

All I can say is I feel sorry you’re so angry and hope you find relief. We have all had a terribly difficult year of loss and confusion. No one knows what someone’s tipping point will be. I know I definitely didn’t expect yours, and I am sure neither did she.

Independent businesses cannot afford to make mistakes right now and it is causing a lot of undue stress compared to when we could all give each other some leeway. Because it balances out in a more normal time. But we all need the leeway more than ever.

But, to rip down a specific person in a specific shop because of the processes of two massive companies playing middleman to each other that the small shop has zero control over is just mean-spirited.

Back when I worked in healthcare and previous to that life, television, I couldn’t please everyone. So, I would refer them to two or three other people they could go to in my skill set and see if it was a better fit.

Some people just wanted a better solution and it resolved itself.

Some just wanted someone to abuse, to blame because they were hurting or because they were just unwell or a bit of both.

My suggestion to you is there are two other FedEx dropoffs you can go in West Seattle I also often use for my escrow drop-offs. Look them up – there are two – and try them out.

I know you’ll reply at this point with another intense post and move into cutting me down next. I tried to offer an answer that was directly from FedEx’s site because you were so frustrated and I had a similar misunderstanding of the process, but also because in the spirit of Don who owned the shop, he would seek a solution and hope it helped.

Some of us just want a better solution.

Alki Mail, with its arrogant and ignorant owner, seems to have no idea that a FedEx parcel is meant to be shipped via FedEx, and not via the Post Office. We are talking FedEx SmartPost. Despite my repeated and express requests to place my items in the FedEx pile, they consistently route the packages to the post office in a manner whereby the package hangs out ENDLESSLY in the severely dysfunctional USPS before it is finally tendered to FedEx, where it should have gone from the gitgo. This might occasion a delay of up to two weeks, if USPS has not lost the package entirely.

Not only is Bree’s (the owner) behavior non-productive, but it is entirely disrespectful. I will not be using Alki Mail services again.

I love Guam and go there once a year on business. It’s the highlight of my year. The coastline is beautiful. Imagine Hawaii 100 years ago. The water is warm and the snorkeling is great. The people are kind, polite and respectful. It’s like stepping back in time. People say hi to you in elevators and when you pass them in the street. Young people call you “sir” and people hold doors open for you. There is a sincere kindness through out the island.

There is surprisingly good food and coffee on the island. Pikas is one of my favorite restaurants and Coffee Slut has great coffee.

The temperature is the same every day of the year… mid 70s at night and mid 80s during the day. It is humid, but not horrible.

Sorry I cannot provide much help with living details. I know that T-Mobile is not there. I think the cell carrier is Docomo? I can tell you that the island has the largest Kmart in the US and you can find anything you need there.

This is not true in my experience at the Roxbury Safeway. I have literally never seen a person with a counter since the days of lockdown and there is zero enforcement or signage to encourage one way isles?

Although it has gotten better at this store with mask usage if you want to feel safe then you need to go either super early in the morning or super late at night.

Roxbury Safeway still has the one-way aisles and a person at the one door to enter and leave with their “counter” in hand so not too many people are in the store at the same time. All employees wear masks and we’ve not seen a single shopper without one on either.

I’m wondering if anyone has recommendations for grocery stores who are taking safety seriously. Just left the Safeway on 42nd after I saw no less than four people unmasked within literally a minute of being inside. No enforcement actually taking place at the door or inside as far as I could see.

I know Whole Foods is good. Anyone else? Thanks!

Hello, this morning, while loading my car for a trip, someone stole two bags out of my car in the back of my driveway. I had loaded two bags and went back for the other two and the first two were gone. This was in the Junction. Obviously thieves are targeting people like me loading a car for the airport. My partners birth certificate was in one of the bags which she needs. Stolen were a burgundy hard case suitcase and a black roll away briefcase. Please contact me if by chance anyone finds these. Thank you. Joe: 206-851-4790

Feel terrible throwing away a very decent queen mattress that is 15 years old, pillow top, slight indentations from our bodies, and no stains. Anyone know of a place like a women’s shelter or another organization I could take this to? Not a huge fan of soliciting those in tent city directly. Seems like SOMEONE could use this great mattress and keep it out of the landfill!

Found along Admiral Way SW in the 5100 block. Earlier in the week I found a black Nike flip-flop (looks new and expensive) and Friday I found a green child’s slip on, looks like it has a frog face or dragon face with googly eyes. Both look nearly new and are hanging on the power pole at the corner of Admiral Way SW and 51st Ave SW. Your kid misses their shoe. Come back and get it.

Pelicans. You’re right, there are a variety of cargo’s. Also right that it’s more economical to load a ship with sand in BC rather than a LOT of barge loads Been common to see ship’s anchored in Elliot bay(and Yukon harbor occasionally)unloading sand for the cement plant’s in the Duwamish. The plant on E marginal can’t handle ship’s but not sure why they don’t bring a ship in to the cement plant just S. of Harbor Island. I’ve seen freighters docked there(back in the 60’s). Maybe silted up enough they don’t have the depth? Dad kept his boat at Riverside marina from 1964 till the port demolished it in the early 80’s. Port was going to develop it but never did.

I’m having the Best Garage Sale Ever sale tomorrow Sunday 11/01/2020 in West Seattle’s High Point neighborhood just East of the water tower. It’s at 7134 32nd St and Myrtle just down the street from the soccer field. There will be yellow sandwich board signs, but it’s pretty easy to find. The garage is in the alley around back, but please park on the street and walk around back, since it’s pretty much a one way alley.

Masks required at all times and will refuse entry to anyone without one. Also, please adhere to a good 6′ plus rule. It’s going to be a nice sunny day, so most of the items will be outside.

Additionally, this site has taken on 26 new participants since the onset of the pandemic in March. The volunteers have taken on the increased demand for service in stride.

While volunteer support overall is down across the organization, Sound Generations’ MOW program volunteers old and new have been stepping up and showing up to meet the increase demand. Hey CarDriver,

Here in Austin, TX we have had an amazing downward trajectory in new cases due to our pushing for stricter enforcement of PPE with higher fines than the state wanted to do. It “feels” like most businesses have also really taken it seriously and do not allow entrance without a mask.

Right now we are beating the curve but all it takes is one or two idiots to ignore the risks and we could have another blow-up. Just have to stay with it and keep our resolve to care for each other and ourselves.

Hey y’all. Been a while and thought I’d see how everyone’s doing with all the craziness of the bridge closure, Covid, crazy house price increases, politics, etc. I pop in every week or so and I’m really surprised how quiet the politics section has been with such a massive and super polarizing election coming up.

I hope all of you are staying safe and relatively sane, but not “too” sane as what’s WS without a little kookiness right? ;)

That’s why i stay right on the bumper of the car in front of me. City could put in dividers at least 100 yards s of the island. That would help-at least they can’t cut in as far as they do. Real solution is for people to stop letting the cutters in.
