Suggestions for where to donate accumulated household items and clothing? I understand the Northwest Center truck isn’t available during the pandemic.

I’d suggest buying a new one since your mower is quite outdated and the parts is not that widely available.

I bought a Ryobi battery powered lawn mower and love it. No maintenance needed, just charge the battery. All my tools are battery powered now.
    That the way to go!!
    Quiet and no pollution.

I recently just went through the process of getting myself a hybrid fitness bike so I will share a bit of my experience. Most of the entry level type bikes are sold out (sub-$1200 bikes), and have been for months. Many stores are getting them a few at a time, sporadically. I was looking for a Specialized Sirrus model specifically, and called a couple dozen stores around the western side of the state. After a couple weeks I was able to find one in Gig Harbor in my size, but not the color or model I REALLY wanted (I had to spend about $250 more to get a higher end model since it was the only one available). When I called, I also asked if they had anything comparable to the Sirrus model, or any entry level priced bikes. The answer was always no. Some stores told me they had literally zero bikes in store available to sell.

So the short answer to your question is, don’t limit yourself to a specific store. Just start calling around and hope you find a store with what you are looking for. If you know a brand or model you want, you typically can go to the manufacturers website to see what stores carry which brand (online inventory is not accurate according to most stores I called), then start calling. Good luck!

CarDriver – to your original question of whether or not a business can refuse to take cash. Yes, they can. From the Federal Reserve site:
“Private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether to accept cash unless there is a state law that says otherwise.” (https://www.federalreserve.gov/faqs/currency_12772.htm)

States may prohibit this but I don’t think WA state does.

Although I don’t think that’ll satisfy you since you could have googled that yourself.

Two weeks ago I stopped at 7-11 for a coffee on the way to work and the clerk was wearing his mask under his nose while working with food while not wearing gloves or using a utensil. I asked him to please pull it up. Last Wednesday I stopped and he didn’t have a mask on at all, again touching food with no gloves on, leaning over good. Again asked him to put mask on. Called customer service and was told I would get a call back from someone. That didn’t happen. Thinking this problem was rectified I stopped this morning. Again no mask, another customer in the store already. When he saw me he hurriedly put his mask on, obviously knew it was me that complained. Again, touching food with no gloves. As I left 3 men entered the store not wearing masks and nothing was said to them. Called customer service again. How long will a store put up with someone not following mandates.I wish I knew where to call in the city to complain. So angry that this store foes mot show respect. I used to frequent regularly, now once a week and it’s not good. Must find somewhere else. Don’t get me wrong, there are awesome 7-11’s, just not this one.

I’ve searched extensively online and there is little real evidence that cash transactions are likely to transmit Covid. The connection has more to do with the interpersonal transaction than it does the cash itself. The problem is mainly one of perception, sort of like the ‘need’ for toilet seat covers. Many businesses have developed clever ways of handling cash, such as requiring it to be placed in a can with no hand-to-hand contact. Yes, money has always been filthy, but Covid is unlikely to cause greater risk than usual. Avoid it if you choose; that will make the financial institutions raking in bank fees right now very happy. It should also be noted that many people, especially those with lower incomes, the elderly, POC, etc., do not (or cannot) use cards, making survival in these difficult times even more stressful.

As I was leaving TV on Sunday and loading my vehicle, a guy in the parking lot stated hotly to anyone that would hear TV only handles cards not cash. He seemed angry.

Rewriting the story with a supportive attitude, if we were checking out at the same time and a person was without a card for the small purchase, I would have gladly included their cost on mine. All they had to do was ask nicely. In the community spirit of saving lives.

Just as in times past I’ve bought coffee for the person ahead of me in line who forgot their wallet.

In another time and culture, during the Blitz in London England, families packed up children to live away on rural farms to hopefully protect them from bombing. Some didn’t reunite for five years. Some never. What a sacrifice these families took and imagine if today Americans were asked — required — to turn their kids over to strangers to hopefully save their lives.

The sense of doing what might be for the greater good can weigh over the loss of privilege and not being able to do what we want.

I appreciate cashiers and other workers who put themselves at risk daily to earn a living.

With all that is going on, maybe this has someone a little stressed out. Glad it wasn’t a quarter.

We are a West Seattle family searching for an experienced and reliable nanny for our 2 children, ages 6 and 9, with responsibilities including overseeing online school, assisting with any homework and finding fun offline activities for the kids after the official school hours have ended. Some transportation to and from sports activities will also be required.

The role will be approximately 40 hours a week with some variation to the exact hours per day based on sports activities and our work schedules.

We have been careful about our interactions with others during COVID and would like to have a nanny with a similar mindset.

    Schedule: ~7:30am-5:00pm
    Days: M-F
    Kids: 6 & 9
    Location: Seaview
    Pay: $23/hour
    Background check: Required
Paid Holidays: 2 weeks vacation + major holidays

We are scheduling FaceTime/Zoom interviews for qualified candidates and look forward to hearing from you!

KBear well yes I guess it is easier than fumbling for 2 quarters than it is to open your purse or wallet and pull out the card then insert it into the machine then punch in your code then wait for it ask you if you want extra cash out and or to say is the amount correct and then push the yes or no button and wait for the receipt…yes I guess you are correct.

ALL businesses should ALWAY’s protect their employees and customers. As we’ve learned more from MEDICAL expert’s cash is not being called out as a safety issue. That is the crux of my “rant”I don’t believe paying with cash is the difference between safe or sick people. Now,if any business want to change the way they do business and be card only here on out I FULLY SUPPORT THEM. That is their right. But if they think by going cashless it will keep employees and customers free from covid(or any other virus) i’d love to see the science. My LAST question. Once we have a vaccine how many businesses will continue with what they’re doing now and how many will go back to the “good old day’s” and not continue with the covid protocals??. PEACE OUT

True Value is not a yard sale. They’re an actual business with a responsibility to protect their employees. Wearing gloves does not provide the same level of protection as not handling cash in the first place. They’re not going to change gloves after each transaction. Why is it “silly” to use a card for a 50 cent purchase? If the merchant is willing to take the card, it should be no extra trouble for you. Isn’t it easier than fumbling for correct change, or carrying a purse full of quarters around?

Is this really worth the heat over a WASHER or is this trying to make a point? I won’t fault anybody trying to protect their workers & customers in a pandemic. Maybe you/we have gotten numb over the fact that we’re still fighting the spread of this crippling virus. I appreciate the frontline retail & customer service people as they face an unknown with every transaction. Cleaning keypads? I agree. Requiring cash transactions? I disagree. Personally, I think twice before headed out the door to safely shop or consolidate my trips. I wouldn’t blow a gasket over a washer.

We are seeking a flexible, super patient, and loving nanny! Kids are 4 & 8 and we are looking for 35 hours a week care M-F from 8am-3pm. Aside from being flexible, super patient, and loving, we would love someone who is able to prepare snacks/meals, and tidy up. 8 year old is enrolled in SPS. We strive to be as responsible about Covid as possible, and would like to match with a caregiver who is similar. We are 6 blocks from the heart of the Alaska Junction. You do not have to have a ton of experience- just have a kind heart and want to work. We really prefer candidates who live close by, and are Covid careful.

    Schedule: 8am-3pm
    Days: M-F
    Kids: 4 & 8
    Location: Alaska Junction
    Pay: $20/hour
    Background check: Required
    Paid Holidays: 9/7, 11/26, 11/27, 12/21-25, 1/1, 1/18 (labor day, thanksgiving th-f, December holiday-1 week, new years, and MLK)

Maybe because it just seems silly to make a CC or Debit transaction for 50 cents when the clerk can put gloves on to take the 2 quarters. They should be wearing gloves anyways with everything they touch that everyone else touches.

OH and look below “yard sale Saturday 9-4pm they want CASH ONLY and of course Masks

Kbear. I do shop there and I’ve used my card there. My rant is that I was buying a 50CENT item and they refused to accept 2 quarters…Really(I didn’t need change). And i’m ready to be educated about cash. Anybody have a link to a story about someone becoming sick and or hospitalized because they touched cash or coin in a transaction????? And could someone tell me why they(T V) refuse to take cash. I did, and got a “because of covid” response. I asked if someone in the store had gotten it from money and just got a blank stare.
