Thanks kayo. The “little humans” are an important part of the equation as well. My 3.5YO daughter was with me at Seward Park. With all the things a parent has to watch out for it would be nice to remove potentially aggressive off-leash dogs from the list. I didn’t put that in my police report because I want the leash laws enforced regardless of whether children are present. Anyway, thank you for following the rules. I actually love dogs too. I just don’t appreciate dog owners who willfully violate the rules.

    Just thinking…

It seems that it might be helpful to figure out ways to enlist others who haven’t read this thread but would agree with those who want to reduce the off-leash threat to the geese?

One way that pops into mind is signage posted to educate park goers. It could be brief and inform folks that the geese have been attacked multiple times by off-leash dogs and that their mother was indeed killed by one. It could list the phone number of HH (or Animal Control) and suggest capturing events on phone cam.

I realize that the Parks folks would be reluctant to allow signage anyplace but the main board at the south end entrance but we could ask? Maybe someone knows already?

We have the seal sitter signage already but that doesn’t include a request to report wrongdoers, does it? And I’m sure that signage was vetted to be within some legal terminology.

Regardless, I suspect that education will help swell the ranks of those who would help protect the geese.

I was just thinking it’s a bit early for Washington apples. Gala, Fuji and Honey Crisp always seemed to time right around when I went back to school at UW so late Sept/October. Rising Sun Produce on the corner of 65th and 15th north of UW always had the fancy export quality apples, they weighed over a pound each!

I have an almost-two year old and doing the SSC co-op preschool last year was a fantastic experience for us. We’re doing it again this year. Classes start in two weeks. For the littles, you attend with your child one day a week. At 3 years it’s two days a week – attend one and drop off one. It’s a unique program because there are two teachers: one focused on the kids and one focused on educating the parents. I highly recommend it and hope you can find a spot. The class rosters are pretty fluid the first few weeks, in my experience.

    Hi,

Burien Farmer’s market is Thursday afternoon in the town square. Also, the Safeway on Roxbury always has Washington Apples and usually WA peaches.

And I have to give a shout out for Duane’s Garden Patch over in Boulevard Park. Definitely worth going a little out of your way:

Good luck! And I agree with your rant:) We’re the Apple state!!!

I’m 67. I got my one and only tattoo when I was in my 50’s, about 51, if I recall. Not saying where it is, I asked God if he/she was going to give me cancer, to please give it to me in the right one. In his/her infinite wisdom he/she gave it to mee in my left one 9+ years ago. Skilled surgeons did not touch the tattoo at my request. Although it’s a bit smaller now, I know that after reconstruction it will never sag – lol. I know, TMI. What’s interesting is, when they removed my sentinel lymph nodes (google it) there was black ink in them. I asked if it had anything to do with my cancer, and the answer was an emphatic “No!”.

My daughter has numerous piercings, but has never had he navel or tongue done (thank goodness). The last place she went was in the junction at 42nd SW and SW Oregon, Blue Geisha Tattoo and Piercing. She said it was a good experience

SG, your question about how you are supposed to know if somebody has autism or not is a good one. With autism spectrum disorders now being so common everybody knows or encounters somebody with one. I cannot provide you with the information and skills to be a diagnostician, but that is why I offered and continue offering a time to sit down with anybody who is interested and explain what ASDs are—in ordinary, understandable language that makes sense, not something clinical. The world can be a scary enough place already, so learning something that will reduce fear of the unknown is a good thing. Seriously, over a cup of coffee or just getting together at Ercolini.

17 year old great-niece wants to have her belly button pierced, has permission of her parents. The family is concerned about cleanliness of the establishment and equipment, niece is concerned about good results.

So–places that work well with sensitive teens, are clean, and can hit the belly button fold correctly the first time.

    Hi everyone.

I am hoping to find a nice, clean and quiet abode. A perfect situation would be to have a private bed and bath and work a trade for after school kid care (excel refs) errands, etc. I have been living with a wonderful gentleman. I do dishes, trash and laundry. I have enjoyed my stay yet he and his girlfriend will be moving in together. They have said it’s fine to stay but I don’t want to cramp their style. I’ll keep this short and sweet :D Text only to start. 207 dash 271 dash 1828. Cheers to a great autumn and thanks

Our summer book club read at work was “The Art of Racing in the Rain” by local author Garth Stein. I really enjoyed it! It was a very quick, easy read so I’m looking forward to digging into some of your suggestions now.

Wondering if anyone has any insight into this: I have a parking spot behind my house just off the alley; there is a construction project across the alley and several times in the last few days, they have equipment blocking the alley for hours at a time. We live near the Junction, so there often is scant parking on the street in front, either. Just curious if anyone has advice on how to address? Just came home with a load of groceries and spent a bunch of time schlepping several loads a good ways back and forth from the car, so I’m hot and crabby. Maybe not such a big deal, in the grand scheme of things!

Just to let you know, there is a guy named Bruce in West Seattle who is developmentally challenged, who I think works at one of the local big box stores. He’s quite large, has thinning short hair and is loud. He can be intimidating but is harmless as far as I know. Maybe this is guy you spoke to?

I live close to Ercolini and will watch more closely as well as alert neighbors. Keep us posted. Thanks

If you have already decided what you need for treatment, then why bother even going to a doctor? Just go to Bartell’s and select the brace you think will be best for you. More seriously, you need to find qualified specialists to get a proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment. The comments above about a PT practice specializing in hand therapy could be a good start for locating a skilled physician.

I’ve had two separate, disappointing experiences at Seattle Hand which is generally well-regarded. In one instances, the surgeon said there was nothing to do about a compromised wrist ligament until it became bad enough to do a graft. I got a second opinion at UW Bone and Joint and had the issue fixed with a simple arthroscopic procedure that didn’t require a graft. The OT people working on wrists at the UW Bone and Joint are excellent.

On the second matter, a different surgeon at Seattle Hand wasn’t even aware of a non-surgical treatment for Dupuytren’s Contracture that can resolve or halt progression of the process if done early enough. It’s a first line treatment in Germany where is disease is prevalent due to its association with Northern European ancestry. Needless to say, I didn’t get the referral when it would have been timely and was disappointed to discover two years later that a radiation therapist in the area has been providing that treatment for some time. Point is that hand surgeons have a particular orientation which may not fully appreciate non-surgical options or even surgical approaches outside of their preferred method. I would recommend getting a referral to Southwest Hand Therapy or UW Bone and Joint for an assessment.

a new restaurant called ‘Peel and Press’ is due to open in that space in a month or so. Pizza will be the focus and the new owner plans on keeping a lot of Abbondanza’s menu. He’s also applied for a full liquor license.
