It comes with a heavy BUT respectful heart, that I will not be moving the geese.

No matter what you think about animal communication, I had 4 different people ask them what they want. They made it VERY clear they do not want to move. They understand the danger they are in. They were born wild and wish to remain where they are. So I am going to respect that.

At this point in time, I think it is best for people to step up and speak out at people who are being jack asses, for not obeying the law. We can NOT count on animal control to do anything. Get as much info as you can if see a dog off leash, pictures, videos. I understand people are scared but all I can do ask to be more vigilant for the geese.

If anyone ever sees one of these geese injured in ANYWAY. CALL ME Pamela 206-427-6454.

Seattle animal control, paws or sarvery WILL NOT DO ANYTHING AT ALL. So don’t bother calling them.

Please do not poopoo me on the communication issues. For those of us people who are open to this will understand completely and NO I am not wussing out on rescuing them. It what they want.

Thanks for being brave and honest about your decision, HH. (Although I would expect nothing less from you!)

I wholeheartedly respect your decision, HH. Thank you for being so thoughtful – no one faults you. I’ll continue to say something to inconsiderate humans.

Geese can be terribly difficult. I know for a fact they’re hard to train because if you leave off for just one day they forget the routine!

I think you should use the 4 communicators to tell them that you are aware they might change their mind and so you will bring the truck around and, if they are not interested, they are to simply ignore the bread crumbs leading into the cages.

@waynster fish and wildlife will NOT do anything, These geese are considered domestic period.

dhg: we actually did suggest that. We will continue to check in on them and see if they changes your minds, but for now they accept what will happen to them.

P, I think you’ve made the right decision. The park is the only home these geese have ever known, so it’s understandable that they would be reluctant to leave.

The only thing we can do at the moment about the off leash thugs is to harass the heck out of them, so that it just becomes too uncomfortable for them to continue their behavior. The owners, that is – the dogs are just being dogs. I would also encourage visitors to Lincoln Park to take down the license numbers of off-leash offenders and make an online report to Animal Control.

About Fish & Wildlife: I called a few weeks ago to report the killing of a federally protected seabird by an off-leash dog. They never returned my calls.

    Just thinking…

It seems that it might be helpful to figure out ways to enlist others who haven’t read this thread but would agree with those who want to reduce the off-leash threat to the geese?

One way that pops into mind is signage posted to educate park goers. It could be brief and inform folks that the geese have been attacked multiple times by off-leash dogs and that their mother was indeed killed by one. It could list the phone number of HH (or Animal Control) and suggest capturing events on phone cam.

I realize that the Parks folks would be reluctant to allow signage anyplace but the main board at the south end entrance but we could ask? Maybe someone knows already?

We have the seal sitter signage already but that doesn’t include a request to report wrongdoers, does it? And I’m sure that signage was vetted to be within some legal terminology.

Regardless, I suspect that education will help swell the ranks of those who would help protect the geese.
