I’ve had a Vita-mix for several years. It’s expensive, but totally worth it. As a blender, it’s highly capable. It came with a cookbook with lots of interesting recipes, and it’s great for the tasks you mentioned. My only complaint is that it’s not dishwasher safe and because the blade and container don’t come apart, it can be hard to get the last bit of food out and sometimes it’s hard to clean. Most of the time it will come clean just by running it with hot water and a drop of soap, but when something gets stuck on the blade it can be a hassle. A food processor does a better job of chopping and slicing, so you may still want to have both. But for making soups, purees, breadcrumbs, sauces, and drinks, Vita-mix can’t be beat.
