Grief Support Groups
Grief groups are brave and safe spaces where bereaved people can share their stories and speak their loved one’s name without fear of getting advice, platitudes, or being shut out, no matter how long it’s been since their loved one’s passing. Every participant has dedicated time to speak about whatever they’d like, without judgment or interruption. Talking about our deceased loved ones in a supportive environment helps us remember them fully and helps us learn to carry the weight of their loss a little more gently.
These are ongoing, drop-in groups, but space is limited. Because of the sensitive nature of traumatic loss, the Thursday group is open only for those who are traumatic loss survivors. Learn more and register at listeningtogrief.com/groups. Contact Tamara at tamara@listeningtogrief.com with questions.

Eastside CHADD Free Zoom Meeting – 4/27/26 7-8:30 p.m.
“The Role of Neuropsychologists in ADHD Evaluations and Treatment”
Register now to learn how neuropsychological evaluations can play a key role in understanding and managing ADHD. Neuropsychologist Dr. Larissa Del Piero explains what neuropsychologists do, how they differ from other mental health providers, and when a neuropsychological evaluation may be especially helpful.
Can other conditions mimic or complicate ADHD symptoms? What if current treatments aren’t working as expected or when formal accommodations for school or standardized tested are needed?
Learn what to expect during an ADHD evaluation, how testing reveals a detailed picture of cognitive strengths and weaknesses such as attention, memory, processing speed, and executive function to provide personalized, practical recommendations that can improve daily life, whether or not a ADHD diagnosis is ultimately confirmed. Concrete strategies for managing attention and executive functioning challenges will be discussed.
Dr. Del Piero, a UW clinical assistant professor in Rehabilitation Medicine, specializes in comprehensive evaluations that help people understand their cognitive strengths and weaknesses to inform their care and improve their lives. She also has authored or co-authored over 50 peer reviewed publications and presentations in clinical psychology and neuropsychology. Her private practice, Pacific Brain Health and Wellness, is located in West Seattle.

The Seattle Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society is pleased to announce a new class in West Seattle, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the promotion of Scotland’s unique dance form in the Seattle metro area.
The class welcomes both families and individuals ages eight and over, regardless of experience. This weekly introduction to joyful jigs, lively reels and elegant strathspeys will take place at Fauntleroy Church on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 beginning September 9th. The Church, located at 9140 California Avenue SW, has ample parking and is conveniently located on the RapidRide C line and a half mile from the Fauntleroy ferry terminal. Comfortable clothing permitting ease of movement, non-marking shoes and a good sense of humor are the only essentials for the class. An individual’s first class is free. Thereafter per class fees will be $10 and $5 for ages 8-17.
Seattle Branch Chair, EB Van Otterloo, will be one of the class instructors. Of Scottish Country Dancing, Van Otterloo says, “There are so many things to love about this form of dance. It’s social, but you don’t need to bring a partner. It’s good exercise for your body and your mind, and most of all, it is such good fun.”
Blaine Peet, who has taught Scottish Country Dancing around the world, will join Van Otterloo in teaching the new class. “Once you have learned the basics, you can dance with people anywhere across the U.S. and Canada, and around the globe. It’s a great way to make new friends in different cultures, no matter whether you are in Europe, Asia or Australia.”
The Seattle Branch has regular social events and runs classes in the U-District, at the Phinney Neighborhood Center and in Edmonds while also promoting classes in Tacoma, Burien and Mount Vernon, among others. More information is available at rscds-seattle.org/classes

WSB story 4/11/2026:
When the city announced that May 2 will be “Neighbor Day,” we asked the Seattle Fire Department if, as happened on many past occasions, they’d be opening local fire stations to community visitors. Though it’s not mentioned in the Neighbor Day announcement, SFD tells us yes, all stations will be open noon-2 pm on that day (three weeks from today) One caveat, though – the firefighters will remain on call, so if they’re dispatched to an emergency, that could bring an abrupt end to that station’s open house. West Seattle has five fire stations – Station 11 in Highland Park at 16th/Holden, Station 29 in North Admiral at 2139 Ferry Avenue SW, Station 32 in The Triangle at 38th/Alaska, Station 36 at the north end of Delridge beneath the West Seattle Bridge, Station 37 in Sunrise Heights at 35th/Holden.

ArtsWest presents WALDEN by Amy Berryman directed by Producing Artistic Director Mathew Wright.
The cast features Marena Kleinpeter (WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ, Seattle Children’s Theatre), Josh Kenji Langager (ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE, Union Arts Center), and Porscha Shaw (WAITRESS, The 5th Avenue Theatre). WALDEN performs at ArtsWest from April 9 – May 3, 2026.
This work of speculative fiction is set in the near future. Stella and her fiancé, Bryan, are waiting at their remote cabin for Stella’s estranged twin sister, Cassie. Raised by their astronaut father to be NASA scientists, the twins have taken different paths: Cassie has just returned from a successful moon mission, while Stella left NASA behind. When Cassie arrives, old conflicts reignite, forcing the sisters to choose between life on Earth or pursuing a future in space, as humanity’s fate hangs in the balance. WALDEN is a thrilling and engrossing new play that wrestles between the gravitational pulls of duty and desire.
WALDEN’s science fiction realism allows audiences to look at our own world through a different lens. This deeply human story explores big ideas about politics and environmentalism through the intimacy, comedy, and relatable familial tension of sisters who yearn for connection. Just as we are experiencing politically divisive times, so are the characters at the center of the play. The Earth Advocates want the government to invest in saving earth, and find themselves at odds with the institution, NASA, which believes it’s way too late and ‘inhabiting’ (don’t use the politicized word ‘colonizing’) the moon and Mars is humanity’s only hope.
Playwright Amy Berryman has local roots. Berryman grew up in Seattle and is now based in New York. WALDEN had its world premiere on London’s West End in May 2021. It premiered off-Broadway in 2024 at Second Stage and was a nominee for the John Gassner Award from the Outer Critics’ Circle and a nominee for Outstanding Production of a Play from the Drama League.
WALDEN is the fourth production of ArtsWest’s 2025-2026 Season titled Between Us. The season features five bold contemporary plays that explore the invisible threads that bind us — the responsibilities we bear for one another, the debts of care we carry, and the lifelines we extend in moments of crisis. WALDEN explores the familial bond between two sisters at political odds and offers audiences the opportunity to think about how our impact on the planet may determine our collective future.
ArtsWest will present WALDEN Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 3 pm, April 9 – May 3, 2026.

Walkers will traverse mostly flat terrain to enjoy parks and views – perhaps including some whales – including Lincoln Park, Lowman Beach, Me-Kwa-Mooks Park, Constellation Park, and the Charles Ritchie Senior viewpoint. The one-way walk should take about 90 minutes and end at Alki Beach Park, where participants can get lunch before retracing the waterfront to Lincoln Park or arranging for a ride back. No registration necessary, and people can join along the way at any park, if they like. No registration needed for this walk.

Happy Hour for Sad People
Wednesday, May 6, 5:00 pm – 7:00p m
at Mr. B’s Mead Center
9444 Delridge WayHappy hour for those tired of getting “pity face” when their loss comes up. Everyone here is sad . . . and happy to see you.
Imagine the scene: you’re finally ready to shed the pajama pants, leave the house, and talk to other adults. You head to your favorite place to socialize and the first person you talk to looks at you like you have something in your teeth and a stain on your shirt. You immediately retreat back to the couch, feeling alienated and misunderstood.
Enter Listening to Grief’s Happy Hour for Sad People. At Mr. B’s Mead Center in White Center you can talk about your loss (if you want; there’s no expectation to discuss it) without the risk of pity face—you know the one—because everyone here gets it. Far too many grieving people lose friends or feel distanced from their community because of their loss. Being with other grievers eases the loneliness. You might even have some fun (again, no pressure!).
Free, donations appreciated. As a courtesy to Mr. B, we ask that each attendee purchase at least one drink. Non-alcoholic mead is available (and delicious). No reservations needed–just drop on by!
Expect a casual social gathering where grief is understood and you don’t have to hide the fact you might be dealing with some hard things. Any type of loss has a place here. Stay as long as you want, talk to whomever you want, about whatever you want, and be yourself.
Recurring every Wednesday from 5-10 – Wednesdays Rock! at the Mead Center. Join us on Wednesdays day from 5-10 pm for Rock Band Gaming Happy Hour! We have over 4,000 Rock Band songs and MANY tabletop games including Carcassonne, Wingspan, Horizons of Spirit Island, and tons of Pathfinder gaming books! Come play some games and get $2 off all Mead pours! Open to all ages with non-alcoholic options available!
