West Seattle
Declared a City of Seattle landmark in 1984, Hiawatha Park and Playfield was designed by the Olmsted Brothers Firm in 1910.
It began a ’new era in public recreation in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest.’ At the time, it was the largest public playfield in Seattle. It included a playground, athletic field, tennis and basketball courts, a running track, two wading pools, and landscaped areas along the park borders; the field house was added to the park not long after it opened. Dedicated in 1911, it retains much of the original Olmsted design to this day.
