Award-winning Seattle-Based Documentary Illuminates Root Contributor to Today’s White Supremacist Movement:

Jesus was not white.

Alki UCC invites you to a free community screening/discussion of Manifest Destiny Jesus, a provocative and entertaining Seattle-based documentary that explores how portraying Jesus as white has reinforced cultural divides from the colonial era through today’s rampant gentrification and segregated churches and police violence.

The film airs online via Zoom on Monday, February 28 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm and is followed. Register here: us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUvd-qoqDksG9Shzqoy-UjlxX6_JCBvGDLZ

How can we build a society where we truly care about our neighbors who don’t look like us?

Dedicated to the “future memory of white supremacy,” Manifest Destiny Jesus offers a clear-eyed, clarion call for hope. Stories of everyday Seattle people — a white family adopting two black boys, an African American dancer, and an interracial congregation reckoning with their stained-glass image of Christ — are interwoven with the larger gentrifying community and historical interviews, showing us that, with courage, we can create a better way forward.

Featured at the Northwest Film Forum and several other Black Film Festivals in 2021 and 2022, Manifest Destiny Jesus was created and is being managed by the powerhouse production team of writer/director Josh Aaseng, writer/performer/arts educator Daemond Arrindell and award-winning writer T. Geronimo Johnson.
