Alki Point to Pigeon Point to High Point …. Just about every neighborhood in West Seattle is represented in the 330+ sales on the map for this Saturday’s 14th annual West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day. Over the weekend, in case you haven’t seen it yet, we published both versions of the map – you’ll find both here, the clickable/searchable/ zoomable online version and the link to the printable packet of map sections and listings. The best sales are the ones you can walk around the corner to, so you can meet/talk with your neighbors … but of course there are big sales, business sales, multi-seller sites, fundraisers, etc. Also read the listings closely to find who’s starting before and/or ending after the official 9 am-3 pm sale window, if you’re interested in making a longer day of it. We’ll start publishing some custom lists tonight. P.S. So far the forecast looks awesome!

In case you haven’t already found them – we want to make sure you know that, as promised, the West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day map/listings went live this morning! We’ve spent the past week-plus putting it all together, and now with one week until the big day – Saturday, May 12th – you can start looking around to see (if you’re not one of the 330 sellers) who’s selling what and where. It’s always great to hear from people who not only find treasures (and, as some ads tout, “things you never knew you needed”) but also get to meet more of their neighbors face-to-face.

Even if you’re not directly involved with one of the 330+ sales signed up for this year’s West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day on Saturday, May 12th – somebody near you probably is, and if you haven’t already heard about their plan, you’ll know in two days, when the WSCGSD 2018 map/list goes live! More than 20 sales are block, business, organization, or school sales – but as usual, that still means most are individual house/townhouse/apartment/etc. sales. And even in their relatively short listings, you’ll see tons of personality – moving sales, sales promising treasures, sales proudly proclaiming junk, knickknacks, bric-a-brac; sales clearing out years of hobby items, years of unique tastes in decor … stuff from employer, military, school affiliations … baby’s-on-the-way sales, baby’s-grown-up sales … We also have an increasing number of sales this year choosing to open before/stay closed after the official WSCGSD hours of 9 am-3 pm. It’ll all be on the map/list and as usual we have two versions going live on Saturday, the clickable map (every sale has a numbered marker, clickable to open the balloon with its address and description) and printable map/list (PDF version with all 330+ listings in order, plus map sections). Watch for it all here on WSB (when it’s ready we will also link it from the menu that you can access on all devices) as well as linked from westseattlegaragesale.com. It’ll be the 14th annual WSCGSD, eleventh year that we’re coordinating it here at WSB, and an awesome day of person-to-person recycling!

We are assembling the list and making the map for West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day, now just 12 days away – 330+ sales all over West Seattle (and a bit beyond) are registered for Saturday, May 12th. Official sale-day hours are 9 am-3 pm, but some sellers are starting earlier, some are ending later, another reason this looks to be the biggest WSCGSD yet. As we doublecheck the listings and locations, we’re making notes – for example, here are a few of the unique items we’ve seen so far: Coke machine, Dictaphone, pizza oven, vintage Barbies, a massage chair, skylights, congas, and two cars for sale. You’ll see all the listings when we publish the map/list – clickable and printable versions – next Saturday, here and at westseattlegaragesale.com.

P.S. If you have just a bit of stuff to sell and you didn’t get a spot at the multi-seller Hotwire courtyard, here are two other possibilities – the White Center Chamber of Commerce invites community members and business owners to be part of the flea market they’re planning in the parking lot at 9834 17th SW, 10 am-2 pm on sale day, and in West Seattle, The Kenney is renting tables on its big lawn, $25 for a 10×10 space with a 6-foot table and two chairs, proceeds benefiting its Resident Fund – call Danette, 206-938-6985.

Thanks to everyone who has registered so far – 265+ sales and counting. If you’ve been waiting to sign up yours, you’re almost out of time; the registration deadline is TOMORROW NIGHT (Thursday, April 26th, 11 pm). You’ll find the signup form here. Important note for sellers – please be sure you got a PayPal receipt as well as our confirmation note – several are showing as having not completed that step of the process, and so we don’t know whether that means you changed your mind or just had trouble with the system. Small sales, big sales, business sales, private sales, nonprofit fundraisers … whatever you have planned, here’s how to get on the map/list (which we publish a week in advance so there’s time to plan!).

80 sales and counting as the first week of registration for West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day 2018 wraps up (with two more weeks to go, so you still have time to think about having a sale, but don’t procrastinate too long!). Sale day is Saturday, May 12th. From North Admiral to North Shorewood, Arbor Heights to Sunrise Heights, South Delridge to Seaview, Alki to Highland Park, just about every neighborhood is represented already. Some shoppers tell us they enjoy just walking to the nearest sales, meeting neighbors they don’t know already, while of course, there are the super-shoppers, who use the map/list (which will be available a week in advance as always) to plot a route looking for treasures. P.S. We also want to remind you that Stamp Out Hunger, letter carriers’ door-to-door, mailbox-to-mailbox food drive – is the same day as WSCGSD again this year (both are always on the second Saturday in May), so whether you will be shopping or selling, set out your bag of nonperishable food by your mailbox/door/etc. first thing that morning.

“We have stuff; you want stuff.” That just might be the ultimate description of West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day, and it’s in the ad for one of the more than 55 sellers who have already signed up. The 14th annual WSCGSD is now five weeks away – at this time on Saturday, May 12th, we’ll be in the heart of it (with cheerier weather, we hope). So far, 35 sales are on the list for what we like to describe as the peninsula’s biggest day of person-to-person recycling – always the second Saturday in May, which means this year it’s May 12th. Official sale hours are 9 am-3 pm but some sellers will start early and/or close late (if that’s part of your plan as a seller, be sure to include your sale hours in the up-to-20-words “ad” you include on the registration form).

Already it’s an eclectic list – individual sales, group sales, benefit sales, business sales, from The Junction to South Delridge, individual sellers from North Shorewood to North Delridge, Gatewood Hill to Charlestown Hill, Pigeon Point to Alki Point, Westwood to Seaview, and beyond. The registration period runs three weeks and then closes so we can make (and check and doublecheck and triplecheck) the printable and clickable maps and lists, which will be available a full week before sale day so that shoppers can plan their stops. This will be the 14th year that the second Saturday in May sees sales all around the peninsula; WSCGSD was launched by community-connecting nonprofit Megawatt in 2005 (inspired by Phinney-Greenwood’s sale day), and when that organization’s founders moved on to other things, WSB became the sale day’s coordinator. This will be our 11th year of mapmaking and promoting. (Our favorite stories every year come from sellers who meet neighbors they had never before met face-to-face!) Sale hours on May 12th are 9 am-3 pm, but you are welcome to start earlier and/or continue later; if you do, include that information in the 20 words of “ad” text that we request in your registration. When the signup form is ready to go tomorrow – mid-to-late morning – we will announce and link it here and at westseattlegaragesale.com. If you’re new around here – WSCGSD is one day with many sales of many sizes, all around the peninsula, second Saturday in May, the city’s biggest garage-sale day so far as we can tell, one big day of person-to-person recycling and neighbor mingling, which we’ve been coordinating since its fourth year.
