JUNCTION LAW-ENFORCEMENT RESPONSE: We’re still working on this one, but thanks for all the tips on a law-enforcement response at 41st/Alaska this past hour-plus. Unmarked vehicles and nothing in the radio traffic we are able to monitor. One passerby says they were told it was an arrest of a “violent offender” and it apparently wasn’t ICE as they said they weren’t immigration officers, and they weren’t masked. SFD treated a person at the scene for a “minor injury.” We’ll add anything more we find out.
GATEWOOD CAR THEFT: First, a resident near 41st/Austin sent this photo of an “awkwardly parked” Hyundai Elantra with tampered ignition:
Then, while we were writing this, we heard police dispatched, and were told it was taken from in front of the owner’s house a few blocks away. So a reunion is imminent
DUMPED BIKE: Recognize this bike?
Sometime yesterday afternoon someone dumped a child’s bike on our street. It looks like it was loved by the person who owned it and would love to see it make its way back to them.
There are stickers on the other side that would help the owner identify it as well as a unique handlebar bell. The current location is near the Lowman Beach area. If someone can correctly identify it, I can store it safely until they can pick it up.

HOTWIRE COFFEE ANNIVERSARY: Hotwire Coffee in The Junction is celebrating its 24th anniversary:
Hotwire is West Seattle’s oldest independent coffee shop (Uptown Espresso was a little earlier but they have multiple locations). It was originally built in 1910 as a carriage house, aka parking spot, for the horse-drawn carriage for Seattle Lighting and Gas. Owner Jeff Silva was a regular when the coffee shop opened in 2002 and he happily took over this neighborhood shop in 2015.
They’re offering cold-brew specials ($2.40 any size) all day to celebrate. (4410 California SW)
SOUTH SEATTLE COLLEGE GARDEN CENTER: Late-summer gardening? The center has plants! Open 10 am-3 pm on the north end of the main campus of South Seattle College (6000 16th SW; WSB sponsor).
SPRAYPARK: Daily-splashing season continues at Highland Park Spraypark (1100 SW Cloverdale), 11 am-8 pm.

Ever since the Alki Bathhouse pottery studio fired up again, it’s been popular. And now Seattle Parks has added new fall classes, with several openings remaining in each:
In response to the high demand, SPR has opened two new pottery classes on Wednesdays:
Adult Pottery: All Levels
Ages 18+
Wednesdays 5:30-8pm

$440Create pottery pieces by using a combination of hand-building and throwing clay into works of art. Participants will be guided through numerous techniques to decorate and build ceramic projects. This class welcomes all experience levels, with special attention to newcomers. First bag of clay will be provided.

BACK TO SCHOOL WEEK ENDS, HOLIDAY WEEKEND BEGINS
Almost everyone is back in classes – and now we’re going into a three-day weekend, as Monday is Labor Day.

TRANSIT TODAY
Metro buses – Regular weekday schedule today – any reroute/stop advisories will be here; if you ride to/through Beacon Hill, note there’s some rerouting because of a power-line problem.
West Seattle Water Taxi – Regular summer schedule, with extra Friday/Saturday/Sunday runs including later-night schedule Fridays (tonight!) and Saturdays.
Washington State Ferries – Fauntleroy/Vashon/Southworth route is on the regular three-boat schedule; check the alert page for last-minute changes. Here’s an advance alert:
Faunt/Va/SW-Two-boat schedule starting Tuesday, Sept. 8 for about one week
Due to scheduled vessel maintenance, the Fauntleroy/Vashon/Southworth route will run the two-boat schedule starting next Tuesday, Sept. 8 for about one week.
The Cathlamet will go out of service for maintenance through September. The Kittitas and Kitsap will operate on the two-boat schedule until we have a third vessel available, likely the weekend of Sept. 12 – 13. We’ll provide updates as soon as we have more information.
Looking ahead: In one month, the Kittitas will also need to go out of service for scheduled maintenance. We’ll have about five weeks of two-boat service with a third, unscheduled vessel on the route during this time. We’ll share more details as we get closer to October.
