First Friday: Preparing for the Big Dark

Our FINAL First Friday of 2026 is Friday, September 4th! Wear your HPIC swag for a big group photo, and join us as we spend the evening enjoying our final gathering of the year and helping each other prepare for the Big Dark.

Event Highlights:

Big Dark resource swap: Have spare resources that could help feed or entertain your neighbors during the long winter months? Swap ‘em! We’ll set up a couple of tables where you can leave something extra and take something you need. Consider bringing:

Produce from your home garden

Games, books, or puzzles

Tools for home projects

School supplies for anyone who needs some last-minute additions

Food preparation demo: Learn from neighborhood cooking gurus who will host a table showcasing five simple no-heat pickling skills. We’ll have samples to taste and recipes to share as quantities last.

Cookie Exchange-Bring a batch or two of your favorite cookies to share. Leave them on the designated table when you arrive.

Music: Hear from TWO bands this month:

Jed Zeppelin: Re-imagines Led Zeppelin’s classic catalog with bluegrass instrumentation.

Disco Cowboys: Puts a country spin on classic disco and funk, with the occasional original song thrown in here and there.

Food truck: Chick’n Fix, a Filipino/American fusion of classic favorites. Menu here.
