WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Gunfire investigation

Multiple calls to 911 – plus a texter – reported suspected gunfire in North Delridge, and police have confirmed it – “multiple casings” found at 29th/Brandon, officers just told dispatch. No word of injuries or damage so far. They’re blocking Brandon while they investigate.

Was outside with my pup. 18 gunshots. Live on 25th and Brandon.  Terrifying.

    • Neighbor October 19, 2024 (9:45 am)

This seems like a hotspot for gunshots, do you know why?

      • Jenava Sexton October 19, 2024 (9:36 pm)

It’s a dark street without sidewalks (hopefully changing that with the SDOT levy) hedged between a greenbelt, the golf course, and camp long (its a bog/eca and city owned on both sides of Brandon, no houses). It’s close enough to a mixed residential/commercial zoned section (Delridge). It draws the unsavory folks. Its extremely frustrating.  Our neighbors are at wits end with what ti do. The city is a year+ out from making any meaningful improvements. Why folks are arguing about governors in the comments is beyond me. Clearly these folks don’t have to deal with this in any meaningful way in their own neighborhoods or they’d realize it has nothing to do with who is governor. Face palm. This is an SDOT issue primarily, and a SPD issue secondarily.

        • momosmom October 20, 2024 (9:58 am)

@Jenava,   You asked—Why folks are arguing about governors in the comments is beyond me.Because all it took was one political comment and then everyone fell into that rabbit hole, including myself.

        • Neighbor October 21, 2024 (7:43 pm)

Thanks for replying. Sorry to hear of you and your neighbors’ troubles with this. Curious: SDOT because of the lighting and sidewalk issue you mentioned or something else? SPD how? Are you aware of victims in this hotspot or is it mostly just free shooting?

  • Rhonda October 19, 2024 (12:29 am)

We have a chance to change the course of the rampant violence in this State in 2.5 weeks by electing Dave Reichert and anti-crime lawmakers. This level of violence is beyond unacceptable and the current leadership is 110% responsible for it. We can’t have our citizens relying on luck whether or not they’re killed by criminals running amok.

    • CarDriver October 19, 2024 (5:43 am)

Rhonda. If elected Reichert et al have GUARENTEED crime will immediately end??

      • Buttercup October 19, 2024 (4:14 pm)

When were I cart was in charge our police department was out of control and was told that they had to straighten up and clean up their act. He botched up more than one murder investigation, he is not to be trusted. Our crime is getting lower. We just need to be able to catch these people because they get away so fast do better funding and get more police so that we have more officers on the streets when these things are happening.

    • Amy October 19, 2024 (6:52 am)

Please explain how Dave is going to reduce violence in West Seattle.

      • Duh October 19, 2024 (11:44 am)
            1. Dave is going fly in on his winged chariot and angels will sing and criminals will give up their bad ways and leave town with dust clouds in their wake.

A vote for Dave “Does nothing” Reichert is a vote for a future like Texas and Florida: Politicians who give big corps tax breaks so that all of the taxes working class pays will fund law enforcement with hair triggers that will be immune from any consequences. Dave Reichert has said he wants law enforcement to have Immunity so basically if you want to hurt someone, vote for him and become a cop.

Why would we elect the guy that so badly botched the Green River Killer investigation and due to incompetence allowed Ridgway to kill for many more years?

          • Reality October 19, 2024 (8:38 am)

Because the CURRENT politicians are allowing countless lives to be lost due to rampant violent crime and theft left unchecked.

          • Andrew October 19, 2024 (9:07 am)

            That’s a really good point!

            • Anne October 19, 2024 (9:56 am)

A good point?? He has no idea what he’s talking about-but you think it’s a good point?

          • Anne October 19, 2024 (9:55 am)

What an ignorant statement-You don’t know what you’re talking about.

        2. E October 19, 2024 (8:54 am)

Dave Reichert has repeatedly voted against common sense gun laws. He’s not going to make us safer.

        3. Mybody October 19, 2024 (9:06 am)

I was going to vote for Reichart initially. we have to remind ourselves that neither he or Ferguson were the governor: it’s Insley.  Myself.: I don’t want the government telling me what I can and cannot do with my body… so I’m voting for Ferguson. I think he will take a very strong stand on crime…. and NOT tell women what they can and cannot do with their own body.

          • momosmom October 19, 2024 (10:35 am)

So you say neither one were Governor but who has been in office with Jay Inslee for the past 12 yrs? Do you really listened to what Dave says or do you only hear what you want to hear or do you only hear what Bob Ferguson’s commercials say? Before marking your ballot please go over again your thoughts and what’s in your heart on who will be best for our State, listen again to the debates that have been done and don’t just vote because of 2 single letters. ✌️

        4. Jay October 19, 2024 (9:34 am)

It’s so sad to see the MAGA hate movement taking root on West Seattle. The platform of hate, fear, and division offers no solutions to crime and maga states and districts have overwhelmingly higher crime rates.

          • momosmom October 19, 2024 (4:25 pm)

@Jay—— This for me has nothing to do with MAGA movement and just because people want Dave Reichert  DOES NOT mean they want Trump in office. And I shouldn’t have to answer, this but I will for the ones that think the same as me… I AM NOT VOTING FOR TRUMP, never have and NEVER WILL! But Dave I am and as for the losing women’s rights.. Dave said how he feels about it but also said he’d leave it up to the people to decide and for Bob Ferguson saying he’d never take it away… My thought on Ferguson is he would say whatever it takes to get a vote. I guess that will be between him and God in the end as he is a devout Catholic.

            • Insane clown posse October 19, 2024 (7:38 pm)

So Reichert says he won’t take it away = believable. But Ferguson says he won’t take it away = liar.Oh ok. So “he would say whatever it takes to get a vote.” only applies to one person. What does either one’s personal religion matter about governing a diverse group? “guess that will be between him and God in the end as he is a devout Catholic.” Just because you have a small minded way of thinking that everyone should be forced to live according to someone else’s beliefs thankfully doesn’t mean the majority supports insanity like that.

                      • “My religion says [socialism] is bad. I don’t believe in [handouts] and we should elect someone who will make sure other people don’t get [handouts] even if they don’t follow my religion.” That’s what anyone who thinks like you do sounds like.
                1. MUSAGA October 19, 2024 (6:21 pm)

@Jay, Ah yes, the TDS supersedes all rational critical thought… The hypocrisy shining through your comments biggly . Your comment offers intolerance to others who think differently or maybe think independently of group think…. Think things through thoroughly before the hate for opinions from others spews.

                  • Canton October 20, 2024 (11:27 pm)

Spot on. No opinion, no matter what one thinks, should be systemically shut down. Period.

              1. Jackson K October 19, 2024 (10:10 am)

                Oh Rhonda. You Wronga

              2. Shanti October 19, 2024 (11:34 am)

I agree with you completely Rhonda. I’ve lived in Seattle a long time. Been voting exclusively for Democrats locally & nationally for 25 years.I just voted for Reichert for Governor. We need serious change here.

              3. Lilly October 19, 2024 (3:22 pm)

Rhonda, I couldn’t agree with you more.

              4. Derek October 19, 2024 (6:09 pm)

Rhonda using a tragedy to push a naive political candidate/position. Noooo way! /s. Thank god Reichert is polling bad or the state will go from bad to WORSE

              5. West Seattle wrap October 21, 2024 (12:43 pm)

So you’re saying that the same people who think everyone constitutionally has a right to own a gun will somehow cut down on gun violence? Also, for a major city Seattle is one of the safest in the country.

            • Guy Olson October 19, 2024 (1:24 am)

Hopefully a salute to our community treasure Patrick.

            • Please vote October 19, 2024 (6:55 am)

Agree, 100% with voting for Reichert, who is for law and order. This lawlessness must stop Our current politicians are 100% responsible.

              • Darlene October 19, 2024 (10:14 am)

Bob Ferguson has a comprehensive plan to improve community safety in Washington through the following strategies:

                1. Increase the number of well-trained police officers and state troopers.
                2. Use the resources Bob recovered from opioid companies that fueled the epidemic to implement a fentanyl crisis response plan.
                3. Combat gun violence and mass shootings.
                4. Pursue and arrest at-large offenders with active arrest warrants for violating the terms of their community supervision – individuals who are too often falling through the system’s cracks.
                5. Equip law enforcement with improved technology and data, and invest in proven youth intervention strategies, to improve accountability, advance equity, and focus on crime prevention, not just crime response.
                • Canton October 19, 2024 (10:56 am)

Bob Ferguson has spent alot of time, and our money, bringing 82 lawsuits against Trump. He COULD have used those resources to fight crime in our state, but he didn’t… Now I’m supposed to believe Mr. Chicken checks will suddenly do something about crime?!?… We need change. Reichert for Governor!

                  • momosmom October 19, 2024 (4:42 pm)

Don’t forget about Bob’s Value Village lawsuit , which ended up costing the State of Washington $4.2 million!

              • Derp October 19, 2024 (10:37 am)

Woman’s rights,  abortion,  this guy is right there with Trump. Both on them will ruin this country. A vote for Reichert is a vote for Trump. Not a chance in hell

            • Piper October 19, 2024 (8:17 am)

I heard 12 gunshots from 18th and dawson. I called it in. Hope everything gets solved

            • momosmom October 19, 2024 (9:11 am)

Why is it that so many people blame Reichert, have you never heard of needing 110% hard evidence to convict even the littlest thing could  have had the case thrown out. We are voting for Dave and not because of the “R” and or the “D” but because we believe in him as a person that will get Washington back into a good place.

              • K October 19, 2024 (11:08 am)

The cops who worked with him on the Green River case were themselves the ones who said he got in the way of the investigation and wasn’t helpful.  Unless you believe all cops are inherently liars, why wouldn’t we blame Reichert for the issues attributed to him?

                • Anne October 19, 2024 (11:55 am)

Why? Because you have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. Married to one of those cops who worked the case  with & without Dave Reichert -for decades-& he has to this day the utmost respect for him-as a LEO& his handling of GR when Dave was  working the case. Not voting for Dave Reichert because you think he mishandled GR is not only ridiculous,-it’s a decision based on lies & ignorance.

            • Tired of the BS October 19, 2024 (2:02 pm)

Yep, Bob Ferguson sued big pharma and won $1.6 billion in settlements for the wrong doing in Washington State. How many people died of overdoses in the past 12 years?  How many people went to jail?  Seems as if Bob is just about the money…

              • Whattt? Did you read and understand what you wrote? October 19, 2024 (3:38 pm)

If the attorney general had not sued big pharma, the people who were affected would have nothing anyway. So based on your logic it’s either be affected by big pharma or be affected and have some accountability from them. Money brings some accountability so yeah I do care that Ferguson went after them. I am not affected by this issue but at least it can help those who are AND prevent others from going through it. Would you prefer we become like Ohio where there is zero accountability?

            • Bob’s gotta go October 19, 2024 (2:49 pm)

Folks, isn’t change good? One party has dominated this city for decades and on all measures things have gotten worse . With Bob Ferguson we know crime and drug issues won’t get better. Ironically, today Bob says we need more police officers, yet wasn’t he mostly in support of the city council on defund the police. We also lost officers to COVID vaccine mandates and as AG he made it more difficult for the police to do their jobs, like no high speed pursuits. Ferguson’s big money donors have also spent more on advertising than Reichert has spent on his entire campaign.

              • K October 19, 2024 (3:42 pm)

Oof, lotta stretching going on here.  COVID was the leading cause of death among police in 2020-2021.  By a LOT.  Vaccine mandates did more to safe the lives of police officers than anything since bulletproof vests.  There was also never a ban on high speed pursuits.  This is a lie often repeated by people who listen to media talking points only, and never to the politicians themselves.  There was only a ban on high-speed chases for no reason, which seems like common sense, but I guess they had to spell that out.  As far as the city goes (I hope you know the AG and governor are state-level government and not city), voters have been bringing in the “tough on crime” candidates for the last few years, and homelessness and crime have not been magically resolved, or even improved, under their watch.  You can vote for any empty suit you want, but championing candidates who say all the things you want to hear doesn’t mean anything when they don’t have a plan to make it happen.

                • Canton October 20, 2024 (11:16 pm)

“Homelessness and crime have not been magically resolved, or even improved, under their watch”… Whose watch!?!… Which party runs the west side of this state,… For decades!?!… What is the term?… Do the same thing over and over,… And expect different results…

                  • K October 21, 2024 (4:17 am)

The “tough on crime” candidates on the city council.  It’s a non-partisan office, but don’t let facts get in the way of your ranting…

            • Derek October 19, 2024 (6:32 pm)
