TRAFFIC ALERT: Crashes on Alki, Harbor Avenues

Heads-up if you’re headed to the beach via north/westbound Harbor/Alki Avenues – two crashes this hour. The one in the photo above sent by Michelle is in the 1700 block of Alki SW; Mark sent word earlier this hour of a Harbor Avenue crash just south of Seacrest. No Seattle Fire dispatch for either, which indicates no serious injuries.

Enough already! This was a wreck that had happened imagine earlier in the day or previous night on lower Queen Anne this week. I don’t drive my personal vehicle much and it’s dated from the early 90s. The way you all drive now no way I am buying a new car until I move away from here.

      What?

How do you do that?!? There is no cross street, doesn’t appear to be any other car causing that car to go sideways. What the heck?

My guess would be an illegal u-turn in traffic. I’m constantly shocked by how people seem to drive like they have no understanding of right-of-way, or what selfish maneuvers might cause a wreck. Lots of entitled, inexperienced, and inconsiderate drivers in this city.

As a motorcyclist it really blows my mind that U turns are actually legal basically anywhere.  They’re extremely dangerous but people do it constantly on Alki.  I avoid the area entirely.

An attempted u-turn, is my guess

And apparently no clue as to how a steering wheel actually works.

In short, it’s legal unless other cars are affected, which is virtually never in a city.

    RCW  46.61.295

    “U” turns.

    (1) The driver of any vehicle shall not turn such vehicle so as to proceed in the opposite direction unless such movement can be made in safety and without interfering with other traffic.(2) No vehicle shall be turned so as to proceed in the opposite direction upon any curve, or upon the approach to or near the crest of a grade, where such vehicle cannot be seen by the driver of any other vehicle approaching from either direction within five hundred feet.

Sorry, comment time is over.
