From crime prevention to city grant applications, we have the toplines from last night’s Fauntleroy Community Association meeting, moved up a week since this month, the usual “second Tuesday” scheduling conflicts with Valentine’s Day. Details ahead:
CRIME CONCERNS: Recent break-ins have led the Fauntleroy area to call for a Block Watch-organizing meeting for next week with Southwest Precinct Crime Prevention Coordinator Mark Solomon. Members of the FCA board plan to attend. Susan Lantz-Dey and David Dey attended last month’s West Seattle BlockWatch Captains’ Network meeting and briefed the board last night about what they heard from police regarding some recent break-ins blamed on an organized group working in multiple communities from Seattle to Portland. (You’ll recall we reported recently on one Fauntleroy block that put up numerous signs warning potential criminals and solicitors.)
ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING: Fauntleroy residents who belong to – or are interested in joining – the FCA are invited to next month’s annual membership meeting, aka Food Fest. New participants this year will include West Seattle Fish House. According to FCA, Metro also will be there with an informational display about RapidRide.
APPLYING FOR CITY GRANTS: Two grant proposals are going in to the city. One will be for sidewalk work on SW Cloverdale; the other, to resurface the tennis courts at Solstice Park (across from the north end of Lincoln Park).
COVE PARK PLANT RELOCATION: The board also is discussing relocating the plants in Cove Park to new homes, prior to work starting on the Barton Pump Station (its short-term and long-term effects on Cove Park – which is the pocket beach park immediately north of the Fauntleroy ferry dock – were reported here). They’ve made contact with schools and community groups. The public will also have a chance to pick up plants too but that date still needs to be determined.
