Followup: How to help the family of Dr. Ed Kingston

Last weekend, we reported on the tragic sudden death of a volunteer soccer coach during a soccer game at Riverview Playfield. On Monday, we added some information to that original story – but not until tonight did we receive information on how the community can help his wife and kids. From a family friend:

On Saturday, October 8, Dr. Ed Kingston (38) died suddenly doing what he loved: spending time with his young son on a soccer field. The West Seattle community is reeling from the loss. Ed lived in West Seattle with his wife and two young children. They are parishioners at Holy Rosary. He was a great husband, father, friend, teacher, and coach.

Many of you have been asking how you can help support his wife, Laura, and their children during this time. A memorial fund for the family has been set up at Sound Community Bank. The Kingstons will be able to use the fund for all immediate and future expenses. You can contribute online at edkingston.comYou can also contribute to the fund at any of the SCB branch locations or through the mail at the bankā€™s main location:

Sound Community Bank
Attn: Ed Kingston Memorial Fund
2005 5th Ave, Suite 200 Seattle, WA 98121

Details about Ed’s service will be shared soon. Thank you.

ADDED EARLY WEDNESDAY: The West Seattle Soccer Club has a memorial page on its website.

I never met Dr Kingston or his family but my heart breaks to hear two beautiful young kids have lost their father at such young age. May God bring peace and comfort to this family.

He was a terrific professor. He helped me become a better mother by giving tips on how to deal with my stress and anxiety by taking just a few minutes between classes to chat.

He gave me tools that will help me in my teaching careers as well.

    Rest in Peace Ed.

Prayers to the family and I will pass the fund information to my cohort who loved Ed and his instruction a few quarters ago.

Ed Kingston was my academic adviser at Central Washington University. I was shocked and sadden by his sudden and early passing. He was helpful to me in academic matters as well as a motivator. My condolences go out to his family.
It is always more difficult when a relatively young person passes away leaving behind children and a spouse. Many times an early passing leaves financial challenges to the family. I urge friends, students, fellow instructors, staff and community members to help out at this time of need.

Though I did not know Ed, I am deeply moved and reflective by his sudden and tragic passing. I could see in his smile (and posts on this blog) that Ed knew how to live, had his priorities right. He taught this old dog something and I am better for it. Now, time to rally and help his wife and kiddos.

I had Ed for a psychology instructor back in 2009. Such a kind person! With all his expertise and educational credentials he was never overbearing or proud; he really liked to help students succeed – he didn’t try (like some professors I have had over the years) to make the educational process difficult to master. He had a humble, listening spirit giving the impression that every day was a day for him to listen to and learn from everyone he met. His children can be proud their father lived his life so well.

Ed K was my CWU II and Psychology teacher my senior year at Kentwood High School back in 2004. He was my favorite teacher. He was so kind to his students and had a great sence of humor. I remember the day he told our class that his wife Laura was pregnant with Jack. He was so excited to have a little boy. When he was telling us you could just see the excitment in his eyes. My thoughts and prayers are with the Kingston family. I wish nothing but the best for you guys.
RIP Ed K! You will be greatly missed! <3

Ed teased me for taking every class that he taught at CWU, beginning in his second quarter teaching. He was the best teacher I ever had, and I will remember him for the rest of my life.
I am extremely saddened to hear of his passing, but I do feel blessed to have shared in his knowledge and life. Ed was an amazing person who will always be remembered and missed.

My heart is broken with this news, he was the very best teacher and adviser I have ever know my entire life and I am 55. He was always there when you needed anything and could talk about anything with him, anything. He was a comfort to all that needed help. He would talk of the love he had for his family, so much love that flowed from him, and the story of his son’s holloween outfit, very funny. He will be missed by all he met and touched. My heart goes out to his family, so young, how can this be is all I can think. I will never forget him and that he was the go to guy for anything.

Sorry, comment time is over.
