Last year, what was originally Westside Symphonette metamorphosed into West Seattle Community Orchestras. This year, the community instrumental-music organization is on the brink of a new season, with word of more changes/additions. If you’re a musician (youth or adult), now is the time to join WSCO – registration is open, and rehearsals start one week from tomorrow. Read on for the full announcement with details:
Here’s the WSCO news release in its entirety:
West Seattle Community Orchestras (WSCO) launches their 2011-2012 season with exciting changes in store for musicians and concertgoers.
Daniel Rossi, music teacher at several West Seattle elementary schools, will join WSCO’s conducting staff to lead the new WSCO Debut Orchestra. This group (formerly called the Beginning Strings) will expand to include woodwinds and brass, providing a full orchestra experience for those musicians new to playing. In addition, members of this group will benefit from the coaching staff of Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra (SYSO) to enhance their playing capabilities.
Leading the newly named WSCO Intermediate Orchestra (formerly the Symphonette) is WSCO’s founding conductor Toni Reineke, Ph.D. The Intermediate Orchestra provides musical opportunities for midrange musicians, whether students moving up in their skills, or adults who are coming back to music after time away; mentoring is a key aspect of this group along with additional learning opportunities from SYSO coaches.
The WSCO Symphony Orchestra, led again this year by conductor Rob Duisberg, Ph.D., will tackle the most challenging works of our three groups, providing members with a chance to stretch themselves and provide audiences with great performances right here in West Seattle. All groups perform for the public several times per year.
Registration is now open; rehearsals begin September 20, with location to be confirmed via e-mail once musicians have registered. Walk-ins on the first rehearsal night will also be welcome, watch the WSCO website for more information. Registration is free to all students; $65 per season for adults.
