Traffic alert: Crash slowing southbound 99 before WS exit

We’ve already mentioned this in quick bulletins on Twitter (@westseattleblog) and Facebook (WS Blog) — but it may take a while for traffic flow to get back to normal so we’ll post it here too – a three-car crash is slowing traffic on southbound 99 right before the West Seattle exit. Thanks to Nichole Taylor for sending photos (the one above shows 2 of the vehicles; none of them looked too badly crunched); the 911 log says fire crews have cleared out so things should get better soon.

That once new GTi is totalled. Can’t fix unibody parts like that without it being unsafe. Somebody just bought a new $27k GTi.

    Nunni,
We were the car stuck in the middle, as a car struck us from behind, then threw us 20 feet into the other lane, and then we were propelled in front of the GTI. (We were in the Black Volvo)
Sorry you were inconvenienced, but I assure you, standing on the side of 99 for 2 hours, after being sandwiched between 2 cars wasn’t our idea of a great way to spend our Monday evening.

Luckily, no one was hurt in the car that struck us, including the kids and dog inside, or the car we were forced into, although we are all a little sore today.

    Dan’a

I am pretty sure all of our cars are a total loss. :( We were in the black Volvo, and the frame is completely buckled in back and it would not go into gear after the accident. The car that hit us (not shown) was a Honda element. Its whole front end is pushed back to the driver’s seat.

Sorry to hear that. Glad you were not too badly hurt. We did have a photo of the Element from Nichole too, but from the angle sent, you couldn’t see the damage you mentioned – TR

Thanks :) Now to deal with the real nightmare… insurance companies! Actually ours is being really helpful, and kind, so we will see how it goes.

Wow! Thankfully you were in a well engineered car, Dan’a.

Without looking up the stats, I don’t know if this still holds true, but I know years ago Volvos were one of the safest, if not the safest cars to be in, in the event of an accident.

Glad to hear that everyone is relatively unhurt, but, please watch for other aches and pains that might not show up for a few more days.

Sorry, comment time is over.
