Friday night miscellany: Mystery helicopter, “pushy” solicitors …

MYSTERY HELICOPTER: Received more than a few notes about this earlier this evening (thank you!) but couldn’t find anything obvious via scanner or in person. Anybody who can solve the mystery of what a chopper was doing over eastern West Seattle – Triangle, Fairmount, possibly Pigeon Point – in the 7 pm hour, please share. (10:16 pm: Nancy e-mails to say that from past experience, it might have been a chopper covering sports at WS Stadium; not WSHS football since they were at Ingraham — 33 to 6 win for the Wildcats, by the way, congrats, and they’re in Game of the Week running for next week! – but schedules reveal Seattle Prep played O’Dea tonight at WS Stadium.)

DOOR-TO-DOOR ALERT: This quick note from Todd in the California/Charlestown (map) area:

Just a note to alert the area that those pushy magazine salespeople (who ignore or can’t read ‘no soliciting’ signs) are at work on the Admiral / Gen. Hill line.

ONE MORE NOTE: Just got word from Carol Viger that the West Seattle High School Grad Night fundraiser car wash planned for tomorrow is off. We’ll let you know when it’s rescheduled.

    Helecopter:
From where i was it looked like it was circling around the Delridge community center area and near the golf course/Longfellow creek. Then it left for a while and came back and did the same. I wonder what it was doing. strange helicopter.

Guess there will be some soggy solicitors tonight.

Thanks for checking on the helicopter…I did go back and look to see that it was exactly two weeks ago that we heard it the first time. Hard to tell the type at night, but it’s definitely bigger than a news chopper. And no discernable spot light (i.e. Guardian One), but I guess they might have night vision. It was here for a long time though, about 30 minutes tonight.

I suspect they rent something different for shooting sports … and you wouldn’t need a spotlight for a football game. Checking the tv news sites just to see if I can find proof of aerial Seattle Prep-O’Dea footage anywhere!

Oh, didn’t even think that they would rent…well if that’s what it turns out to be, can you pull your media strings and get them to be a little quieter? ;)

I have called on these helicopters before. The cops will sometimes confirm they are theirs. If they are doing an aerial search they can hover for quite a while. I would say this happens at least a couple of times a year.

Interesting John L Scott salesperson out drumming up business for open houses the other night. I guess now the tactic is to get public records, ring the doorbell, and salute you like a long lost friend when you open the door by greeting you by your first name. I thought it a little bizzare someone would go to the trouble of pulling tax records so that they could appear more friendly and on a first name basis, but the guy was really kind of a jerk about it. I asked him not to return again.

Westwood – that’s why I suspect the football theory might be the winner here – we have the helicopter frequency on our scanner but when the notes started coming in and we listened in, we couldn’t hear anything. Still trying to see if I can find aerial footage anywhere; KIRO and KING are the two stations competing really hard in the HSFB space so if it was, it would be one of them, most likely …

Maybe Tom Stewart is back in town, buzzing West Seattle!

We had a teenage girl at our house last night soliciting for magazines and the such and she was pretty assertive. She came back and asked how to get to Alaska street (must have been their meet up place)..I’m in the Charlestown area. I kind of felt sorry for her considering the weather.

Brandon: That is weird. Random solicitations by first name are a good way to guarantee that I’ll NEVER do business with someone…call me an east-coast stuck-up if you must, but if we haven’t been introduced or made some previous acquaintance, being greeted by first name strikes me as overly familiar. And, if it’s some random guy coming to my door, kinda creepy as well.

Thanks for posting the mystery helicopter enquiries! It is pretty cool to have the WSB to turn to when there are breaking news/questions (even if there aren’t any solid answers…);)

4 helicopters last nite over Lincoln Park Waterfront from 6-9pm flying north then south lining up hovering over water and end of beach drive 3 big ones with 4 massive lights on front and one small one couldn’t hear them till they flew over the houses….looked like a training.

Sorry, comment time is over.
