From the WSB Forums: Movies filmed in West Seattle

Even if you don’t frequent the WSB Forums, this thread’s kind of fun (thanks to PSPS for starting it): Movies shot, all or part, in West Seattle. Everyone knows about the “Sleepless in Seattle” Alki scene (and the hilarious implication it’s around the corner from Lake Union), it seems, but otherwise, we’ve seen some surprises so far! (P.S. The city “Film and Music Office” posts a weekly newsletter.)

There was also 1987’s “House of Games” with Lindsey Crouse, and the Emmy-winning 1985 TV movie “The Rape of Richard Beck” with Richard Crenna.

House of Games…a great movie…had Joe Mantegna in it, too…

The movie “Fear” with Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon had a scene shot at the park with the anchor on Alki.

There was “Frances” of course (with Jessica Lange), with some scenes shot in and near the old union hall on Pigeon Point/Pigeon Hill.

Some of “Singles” was also shot on California Ave (the scene where Campbell Scott and Kyra Sedgewick get into a car wreck).

‘born to be wild’, summer 1994 at west seattle high school. i actually have not seen the movie but was an extra in two scenes in the cafeteria and the auditorium. don’t know if you could see me. we had a fun time being extras though. maybe we should have some of these movies shown sometime for the sidewalk series. that would be neat!

My kids still call the house by us “The Harry and the Henderson House” They filmed a scene in front of the house at the corner of Belvidere (on the triangle of the big Italian Villa type house) with the city in the background.

I also remember all of the old cars parked on Delridge by the steel mill when they were filming Frances.

There is the scene in Singles that was filmed by Calfiornia and Charlestown where Schuck’s used to be and now is that brand new condo building.

They filmed Life or Something Like It, with Angelina Jolie on Belivdere and Prescott in North Admiral. My dad lives right there and they used his neighbors house as the home of the guy Angelina falls in love with. She drove up and spoke to him while he was on a ladder working on his house. We got to watch the filming, kind of fun!

Another Sleepless scene was filmed on Sunset Avenue, in the mansion between Massachusetts and SW Seattle St. I believe it serves as the home of the dinner scene with Meg Ryan and her would-be in-laws. In any case, her trailer was parked in front of my childhood home, and we saw her walking around the corner–on the hottest day of the year–in an ankle-length maroon velvet dress. And may I just say, that woman is TINY.

Also, a Tom Selleck TV movie called “Divorce Wars” was partly filmed in a home on 41st and Holgate back in the early 80s.

The Prefontaine Movie was filmed at the corner house of 36th and Othello. I lived down the street while they were filming. The owner of the house was compensated very well.

Which one–there were two Prefontaine movies?

Sorry, comment time is over.
