Mayor’s son sentenced

Per the P-I: Three months prison, three months “home confinement.” When this all broke earlier this year, he was reported to be living at his parents’ home here in West Seattle. ADDED AT 2:28 PM: Statement from the mayor, as posted on the city website:

“This has been a very difficult time for our family and today’s decision will help bring this issue to a close. While the next few months won’t be easy for any of us, Sharon and I know that Jake did the right thing by accepting responsibility for his actions and cooperating with investigators. We love our son and will continue to support him in the months and years ahead. I’d like to thank all those who offered Jake, Sharon and me their support and prayers. We are very grateful.”

That’s it? Sweet! I want to steal $90k and spend three months at home, too!

What happened to “Hizzoner”? Haven’t seen you guys refer to him that way in quite a while.

Kind of like the reason we had to drop Cali … it doesn’t come up in search results … which bring in a fair amount of readers … if they are searching for something or another about Mayor Nickels, they are only going to find it if we wrote “Mayor Nickels,” not “Hizzoner” or “West Seattle’s Most Famous Politician.”

Ha! I went to high school with him. I never thought I would see him on the news, let alone be charged with a crime.

Hey, Stan, maybe you should learn more before commenting. Jacob was given three months in prison AND three months of detention. And, he didn’t steal $90K; he was given $5K to introduce someone to potentially crooked dealers, who in turn helped the casino lose $90K. Why Jacob should be responsible for paying the $90K is beyond me.

Good. It never pays to cheat.

“West Seattle’s Most Famous Politician”-Was my favorite.

Digg – there was a funny little side story about that – because we used that phrase so much, if you google for “most famous politician,” with or without the Boolean quotes, the mayor’s page comes up first. Even if you don’t put Seattle in your search query.

Actually Stan, 3 months at home, 3 years supervision, and 3 months in FEDERAL PRISON according to KING/AP anyway (plus $restitution)…

Remember campers-this only for what he was CAUGHT doing.

My Cod, you are right! The mayor’s website does pop up #1 when you type in “most famous politician”…. incredible.

Speaking of spin: imagine what the sentence would have been if the money hadn’t been simply portrayed as stolen from “a casino”, but as money stolen from the funds used to educate and provide healthcare to children on the reservation that runs the casino. That is who the money was really stolen from… kids.
