New twist in West Seattle school-closure plan

Just announced by Seattle Public Schools this morning ... now Roxhill is on
the chopping block, and Pathfinder is poised for a move to Cooper. Here's
coverage from the P-I, and from the Times.

It appears that the Seattle Public Schools Staff has not been truthful about the Pathfinder re-locate to Cooper – before it started with a move in its entirety to Cooper – with Cooper folks given the opportunity to enroll at Pathfinder – or get first preference at other schools – See written recommendations @ seattlschools.org – Then, following the huge blowback from the Cooper community joined by the Pathfinder Community as to lack of notice, transparency and open processes – (lack of a hearing for Cooper among other issues) and after the public testimony at the school board mtg on the 20th – Super Raj Manhas and his staff announced it as a “MERGER” – merging Alt and traditional programs without telling the Cooper and Pathfinder parents in the hall trying to get to know each other and get beyond the district’s pitting the communities against each other.

STILL as of 09-28-06 NO written clarification from the district between the Super’s written recommendations and his and staff comments about MERGER – won’t work – both communities – both great communities devoted to their kids – are angry at the disrespect and stress caused by this.

Its time for a consortium of all WS Schools to get together and plug the holes and advocate for one another!

More meetings, hearings, drama and backroom dealing to follow – none of which help to “close the achievement gap.”

Sorry, comment time is over.
